ur modem is router modem or just pure modem?
*
it;s router modem... i did some changes to my resolv.conf file by changing the nameserver to 202.188.0.133 and 202.188.1.5, yet problems still the same.

i even try to edit etc/dhcp3/dhclient.conf file.... by adding
interface "eth0" {
supersede domain-name-servers 202.188.0.133, 202.188.1.5, 127.0.0.1;
{
doesn't work cry.gif

Yes.
So many networkcard? Please check using ifconfig or lspci and iwconfig.

Try use static ip rather than dhcp.
If you use dhcp, DNS will be forwarded by your router to your pc. That is why your nameserver in /etc/resolv.conf always changes.
You can use dhcp if you set DNS in your router similar to your ISP.
ex: streamyx
202.188.0.133
202.188.1.5

In order to use static ip, edit /etc/network/interfaces something like this.
ex:
Your router ip is = 192.168.1.1 (this is your gateway)
and the networkcard connected to that router is = eth0

CODE
auto lo
iface lo inet loopback

iface eth0 inet static
       address 192.168.1.2
       netmask 255.255.255.0
       network 192.168.1.0
       broadcast 192.168.1.255
       gateway 192.168.1.1

iface eth1 inet static
       address 10.1.1.1
       netmask 255.255.255.0
       network 10.1.1.0
       broadcast 10.1.1.255

auto eth2    # I'm not so sure is this exist in your pc, remove if doesn't exist
iface eth2 inet dhcp

auto ath0   # not so sure if this exist in your pc, remove if doesn't exist
iface ath0 inet dhcp

auto wlan0
iface wlan0 inet dhcp  #save to leave as it is

Save and restart networking: # /etc/init.d/networking restart

And there's always the good "changing write permissions to the resolv.conf file" trick... Worked for me last time, even while using DCHP... But as problem solved already (and Static IP is also useful for port fowarding), lets just leave it at that... thumbup.gif

Hello guys smile.gif

3-week old uBuntu user here, and I still can't figure out one thing (call me a noob, I'm really one sad.gif - but I'm familiar with linux systems, just don't have enough exp hehe)

Here's my issue:

I've been trying to play .mkv (Matroska) files on my uBuntu (Edgy 32 bit). But heres the problem:

1) If using Totem-Xine, the file will play, but no subtitles, bad performance (jerking sometimes)

2) If using mplayer, it will play, got subtitles, but will crash when I drag the slider bar

3) Using VLC, also similar to mplayer.

I've tried everything from recompiling to reinstalling, but none works sad.gif Can someone point me the right way? Thank you! rclxub.gif

Well, as Totem completely refuses to play my stuff at all (some sorta confilct with AIGLX+Beryl), I'm playing all my stuff, (.MKV and .OGM included) through KDE's Kaffeine. No issues as of yet.

Which reminds me, are you running XGL or AIGLX?

I'm using nVidia's Beta Driver (it comes with built-in XGL) + Beryl. No issues with all player, except this weird MKV problem above.

ANyways, I managed to solve the problem, I installed mplayer from source and now I don't have to worry about using any other player smile.gif MKV, OGM and all formats works flawlessly smile.gif

I'm not sure about that, but I did try to run uTorrent via Wine on ubuntu and it worked flawlessly. Even the uPnP forwarding works!

Have you tried with another CD? I get that last time before even installing any Linux on my PC. I tested the CD i burned and it has errors. So I burned another one and make sure there's no errors, and the installation went well.

I just recently downloaded Ubuntu, and ask my friend to burn it into a CD.
I tried booting it, it manages to load. But I'd use some other versions before, it'll show the HDD contents.

Is it just me or Ubuntu won't show them?

Or if it will can someone teach me how?

Newbie in linux here...

Thanks. notworthy.gif
