u should type http://localhost/test.php in the browser not http://localhost.test.php

in the terminal type sudo yourcommand to run a program as a root
or sudo -s to become root

for root partition u only need 5GB or 6GB.... that is the minimum i think if u r not going to install any other desktop environment like KDE... and u need swap partition, 512MB i guess is enough. my ubuntu and debian both only have 512MB swap, and never run any problem yet.

make sure u have free space to make partition for linux and be careful not to delete ur windows partition... biggrin.gif

did u run "sudo apt-get update" first ?
