QUOTE(treflip @ Feb 28 2011, 12:19 AM) seriously bro..if you want loud get the spawn 40 ply snare or the reference or the DW solid one ply maple...these thick and heavy snares are loud!! louder than metal snares (besides the steel and brass reference tho)....acrylic may look nice and sounds nice in certain situations only but nothing beats a good wooden or metal snare especially in recording...acrylic has only one characteristic of a sound...even mike portnoy said so after using his tama mirage set, that he still would go for natural wood shell esp for recordings... Yeap, but like I said earlier. I'm on a tight budget, I can't afford to buy those snares and another factor for a loud and clear solid snare sound is from your own sticking and stroking...the strength of your arm when u hit em...no matter what snare u use (even crappy snares) with proper sticking and stroke you can make the snare sound solid and loud too =) Btw many drummers, especially here in Malaysia didn't know the importance of retuning their kit when playing at different environements. Straight away hentam. Last time when Caliban (Germany metalcore band) was here, he took awhile to retune his snare. Same goes with carnifex's drummer. and I dont totally agree with you on this. how about poplar shell snare? Poplar is soft, it can't cuts thru loud music (even with proper techniques and strokes). I've seen a lot of metal drummers here drumming like hitting a pillow, can't even hear a single beat. and thats why most metal drummers trigger their snare drum, to make sure every single beats can be heard, especially during blast beats. Added on March 1, 2011, 12:44 amand how I wish I can afford to buy your pearl reference snare This post has been edited by zul.z: Mar 1 2011, 12:44 AM |

ok say your budget is below rm1.5k perhaps you can consider getting urself a pearl sensitone elite brass shell..u can get that from bentley...or find ypur self a wooden snare made of birch as birch is brighter than maple =)

QUOTE(zul.z @ Mar 1 2011, 12:40 AM) Yeap, but like I said earlier. I'm on a tight budget, I can't afford to buy those snares I agree with you. Many drummers in our local scene just take their favourite snare along and just hentam it only wherever they go. Right now I use three cheap snares in very different environments lah, but although they are cheap, when tuned properly with good heads, they can definitely live up to the business. Btw many drummers, especially here in Malaysia didn't know the importance of retuning their kit when playing at different environements. Straight away hentam. Last time when Caliban (Germany metalcore band) was here, he took awhile to retune his snare. What IS your budget anyway bro? QUOTE(musefanatic @ Mar 2 2011, 12:09 AM) I got Ddrum set like that. Interested? PM me. |

QUOTE(WintersuN @ Mar 2 2011, 10:11 PM) Hi Nope, no matter how well you tune a crap kit, you can't make it like a pro kit, or else everyone just buy crap kit, right? Is Pearl Target good? What do you guys think of the new cymbal from Sabian? I got the 22" cymbal at about mid-february and the more I play it, the more I love it. When you hear it, you can feel the kind of raw sound that Jojo Mayer goes for, but yet it still blends well with my other cymbals.
The bell and the medium weight middle section really has a nice raw sound to it, but the thin edge really gives a nice crash, and I really love it when I use mallets to get that woosh sound. For RM1000, I'd say it's money well spent. |
