QUOTE(davidgary73 @ Oct 9 2010, 03:39 PM) You might say, how to play without bounce? Well, you can learn to bounch your stick with the pull back stroke like > single hit and then you pull back the stick with your last 3 fingers. The more you practice with this method (single, double, triplets, paradiddles strokes and get up to speed, imagine what you can do when you're playing with proper drum skin with bounce. Actually, it's the bounce of a conventional drum that's hard to control. The response of a practice pad is predictable hence easy to get used to.On a conventional drum, every hit causes waves in the skin which makes the subsequent hits slightly harder to control. The faster and harder you go, the bigger the inconsistency in bounce from each hit; same goes if both your hands are hitting closer to each other, i.e. hitting the same spot, or at the dead centre where the skin is most flexible. |

I'm pulling the trigger on a Dunnett titanium snare. The time is ripe. Musician's Friend is offering a 200 bucks rebate so I'm getting a hard case and a DrumDial and a couple sets of Emperor snare drum heads for free. Soon, I'll be able to return the Tama Tension Watch I borrowed. It's too sensitive for my liking. The drum will fill up the gap nicely... I hope.

Thanks. The plan is to complement a really good maple drum I already have. I'm just getting a plain vanilla model. I wanted one with all the bells and whistles but Dunnett and its network of "boutique" shops are a real b*tch to deal with, honestly. It was a toss up between this and a Joyful Noise TKO but I chose this 'coz Musician's Friend has always been easy to deal with.
Does anyone have anything to share on heads/tuning? Just wanted to poll: Evans is the best right |

QUOTE(AhBoy~~ @ Nov 9 2010, 05:33 PM) Hi, anyone buy cymbals or drum from oversea be4? is there a tax if I shipping these stuff from Singapore, US or Aus? Plenty of taxes. Information is easily available on the net.Even items shipped as gift/used will be taxed. My Dunnett titatnium snare is on its way; I'm expecting a hefty tax. QUOTE(SunofaBeach @ Nov 9 2010, 04:24 PM) Do you guys use drum mat ? My floor is wooden ones and I dont really like the kick pedal because there's some vibration each time I kick I made a base for my practice kit. It's just a couple 1/2" plywood sheets, wrapped in felt carpet and bolted together. That should serve your purpose.I have a Gibraltar bass practice pad and I drilled some holes and bolted that to the plywood sheet. Otherwise it'd be flying all over the place. Axis pedals pack a mean mean punch. » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « Added on November 9, 2010, 11:22 pm QUOTE(fifi85 @ Nov 7 2010, 09:19 PM) How do I put this. When I was touting the awesomeness of e-kits (TD-20 or similar) even when getting flamed here, I'd assumed a player would already have the chops.
That vid made me realise that I shouldn't be so gung-ho about e-kits. I could've been offering a stupid recommendation to newbies But still... personally, for myself, e-kit has the edge This post has been edited by Party2DMax: Nov 10 2010, 06:50 PM |

QUOTE(Namqul @ Nov 10 2010, 09:28 PM) fifi85's vid I record and listen back whenever I can. It's part and parcel of practice. Other than that I use weights too, and mirrors... whenever I can la Drum is pretty much physical so it should be tackled with the mindset of an athlete. |

Stagg is pretty good.
I'll just put it this way: If a studio's drum spec reads, "A set of Stagg DH/SH cymbals," I know I don't need to bring my own. Of course I still think my Sabians are the best la I like their thinner models... Exo Thin crash or something. Bright, aggressive, and trashy, almost china-sounding. Me likey; oooo gives me a tingly sensation... |

QUOTE(major_panic @ Dec 11 2010, 10:44 AM) To AhBoy, if you're willing to spend a bit more, try something like the Etymotic hi-fi earplugs (http://www.etymotic.com/ephp/er20.html) which I've been using - they're amazing! Some of my jamming pals and I are using the same thing from a different brand. Ok only la... you can see that the attenuation stats for these earplugs also slopes downwards. No tiny earplug is gonna bend the rules of physics. At least they keep my ears safe (I hope!). |

I can lend out my single-ply maple snare. It's an orchestral snare with a big fat sound but the snares are very very sharp and bright. The heads have probably got to go 'coz it's crappy Aquarian (urgh~~), although there's quite a bit of life left in them.
I want the pre-mastered and mastered copy! |

Namqul, I'll sell you my Todd Suchermann DVD. I got it for SGD50-60 but I'll let it go for RM50 if you're willing to come get it from me. Condition is mint
But beware: after buying this DVD, I'm now a bit more choosy when it comes to drum DVDs. As a friend, don't buy this DVD unless you know what's on it :S |
