I have searched throught the forum, there is no discussion on seiko watch, may be they are just too common.
I owned many watches, and mostly seikos, especially the 5 series.
They are some of the most affordable quality timepiece in asia here.

Let discuss what do you like a bout seiko.

My wish list for the next watch will be.
1. Seiko Orange Monster



This cost about 600 to 700 ringgit if bought from singapore seller in ebay. Many are trusted and they come from grey market.

2. Seiko Sumo (Not samurai, it's another watch )


This is a much more expensive watch than those seiko 5. It just look too gorgeous to me.
Seiko watches is all very durable and has very fine details.

Do not look down on seiko watch , all their movement is their in house design where many famous swiss company has oem movement from ETA.
And seiko do sell luxury watch as good as rolex or even better.

Grand Seiko it is almost unknown to most Malaysian, because they rather buy a rolex than spending same amount of money for this.


I hope that more people start appreciating timepieces more and not about how luxury they are.

Bought last year August...rm430 at an old shop in penang road...

I'm looking seiko 5 range too any model to recommend? Can afford those high end ones yet.

So far vey satisfied with my Seiko Chronograph. Battery long lasting too. Bought it around august 2007 up until today still hasn't change battery even once. Plan on upgrade but not too soon la. No budget.

You need to specified, what kind of watch you like loh. Diver watch or dress watch.
Leather or bracelet.
Tough or Dressy.
For seiko 5 range the sports range it's very popular and it's quite trendy as well.

I managed to get a Monster for something significantly lower than the prices quoted here. You need to look harder. Tip: the Bay.

Ebay has many reliable seller for seiko watch especially from Singapore.
Don worry you will get your watch safely and it's genuine. Search for those seller with over 1000 sells and 99.5 + rating.

It's also good to use paypal, you have some kind of protection also.

Decent watch i would say ...

does Seiko have luminance that can use gas? something like Ball watches.
heard new Seiko watches use new type of luminance that more brighter and the light last longer? how long the light will last? 1-2 hours?

your watch luminance looks very bright. is it really that bright or the camera effect?

So far none. I can't say the super high end in japanese market, but in asia for sure not exists.
Most seiko diver lume light can last for few hours.

What's the difference between diver and dress? I prefer bracelet. Well I want to wear it for work and casual too.

That's easy to answer, diver watch made for diver . They are water resist till at least 200m. Any less than that not suitable for diving.
Other than water resist, they have very bright lume, so you could actually see them glow while you sleeping.
And it's bulky built like a tank, it should still run fine after you bang it accidentally on the wall,table floor.
There is a tale, some seiko diver lying under the sea for years and still run fine after someone discover it.

Dress watch, it's dressy. You wear it under your expensive suit. Showing it off during your meeting, or fine dinner.

if i have 12k..i'll go for the GS instead of tag..GS only recently went worldwide i assumed as it was only for domestic sales before this...correct me if i'm wrong...

btw..juz saw a watch boutique sold GS in sunway pyramid...very beautifull watch indeed..

i would go for Grand Seiko over Tag Heur if i have the money...especially those that use Spring Drive...Quartz mechanical hybrid at the very best..

but the lume is real though...illuminate the watch under lamp/sun for a while before shooting, and you'll get lume like that...for about 30 secs before it dims down..

haha..not hardcore fan la..just that i feel seiko deserves more recognition...comparable to swiss brands...a lot of times, people will say "it's just a seiko"...but spring drive has proven a lot....

As promised this is my SKX009, old style ..but looks great to me. Yes this the actual shot by me. You have to use the negative exposure compensation to make this really dark.



Use spot light on the watch for 10 sec will have this effect. But don do this often lah, some say will shorten the lume paint life span.
Also this is how diver able to read time under the dark sea .

Hope this shot could poison some gentlemen and start looking into diver watch

What's the price range of Seiko 5 range btw? thanks. Need to do some budgeting first.

250 to 800. Many store don have many stock because I think the margin is low on these model, while the criteria should have more margin.

Seiko owner reporting in. I have both 1st and 2nd seiko.

P.S: The 2nd watch is not seiko samurai, its seiko sumo.

I'm not that good at distinguishing the seiko divers either..
jz acquired a g-shock Gulfman this morning on ebay...

It will print a diver 200m on the dial. Normal price on retail is about RM1K, but ebay is from RM500 to RM800 depends on model.

No..not what i meant...i mean it's difficult for me to distinguish the diver models...eg, Tuna, Samurai, Monster, Sumo...etc..
Most of the divers are from greymarket nowadays..

I just love my Seiko World Timer Bought it around year 2008.

Great watch, I have been admiring this model for quite some time. The cities printed on bezel makes it sophisticated.

So far I think the cheapest is to buy it from hk... There is also a shop in ss2 that sells it but the price is very expensive... If you want to drop by and have a feel of the watch, you can pm me.. I have not bought anything from ebay, so have no comment on that..

Have to be careful when dealing with traders from HK...a lot of replicas around nowadays even for seiko5..

My god, replica for seiko 5. But in my experience HK still better than china one.

yeah...HK is better than China but still there's a lot of replicas looming around in ebay for traders from HK...
i know this is a very wide generalization..but just becareful if dealing with overseas traders online...you'll never know where their stocks come from..
on a side note, there are even Casio G-shocks replicas...

I shop at ebay most of the time, sorry. But give some tips to all watches buyer always try to get 30% discount from the recommended retail price.

It's my wedding gift from my wife The best part of kinetic is that it will stop the movement after about 72hrs. Lets say if a week later i intend to use the watch, i'll just wear it and it will automatically run and correct itself to the present time. However, the date, u need to set it manually. Seiko came out a kinetic date to cater that however. It's my favourite watch

You are a lucky guy. That's an auto relay model. Don know why they don promote this kind of model now, maybe it's expensive. Most of the time, they pushing chronograph, yup it's look complicate, but battery only last for few years. Kinetic watch rechargeable battery can last very very long.

I bought the sumo in hk at a brick and mortar shop.. There is international warranty as well.. so far that is the cheapest i came across.. even cheaper than buying it from the japanese online retailer..

I agree that there are a lot of fakes in hk and china, thats why i dont like buying things online.. If in doubt, do more research before buying..

There is some good seller in ebay. premierworld and pokemonyu both are very reputable and are from Singapore.
Their watches is without warranty but is genuine.
Each of them sell about 100,000 watches on ebay account alone.

Those are grey market products and the sellers are not providing their warranty...
But i think for seiko, it is good to pay extra for the international warranty..
I've dealt with Thong Sia service centre before..their service is not bad...
The TiCN plating came off on the buckle 1 day after i bought my watch..Thong Sia replaced the buckle for me free of charge with no questions asked..(though have to wait a few months for them to order the buckle from japan... )

Yes no warranty loh, warranty also cost to seller mah. I am just poor consumer have to take risk. But until now most of my watches work fine that going to last for few decades. Seiko quality mah.

haha..yeah...types of warranty play a big role also...like the g-shock i bought recently from ebay, it's a grey market stock...though there's 1 year warranty from the seller (just for a peace of mind...i doubt the seller can really do much)...but i do believe it's a good deal...Casio only offers local warranty...and i'm in Aus now..even buying an authorized g-shock from malaysia would be considered as grey market goods when i bring in here...
and watches in Aus is darn expensive...

Shop rental, promoter salary, advertisement all counted into the cost. I would really consider to buy it from ebay or from the shop cause the price is sometime 50% off.
But I think for seiko and casio watches (especially g-shock) they are suppose to be tough so should easily work for many many years.

Am gonna get a Seiko watch this coming Sunday anything to recommend gurus? Prefer Automatic Movement, leather strap brown/black doesn't matter. Budget RM500 below.

Rm500 and below probably Seiko 5 or Seiko 5 Sports...These are all automatics...Choose the design you like and you'll be fine...

You could go online just buy an old movement, or even second seiko 5, then take it together to the watch shop for them to resemble it. Don worry the 7S26 movement is cheap.

Movement is the engine used to power a watch...
For current seikos, it's 7s26, 7s36, 6R15 and etc...

From the numbers you've given, 7009 is the movement code and 447R R is the dial code....

I got one of these, white dial, white steel. It's cheap, around RM300, the black one will be more expensive lah. It has ladies design as well.
But it's quite heavy for watch at this size. Only thing not perfect yet is the bracelet not using solid steel, it use folded bracelet.
They call this baby grand seiko loh.

When i bought mine, the ion-plated version was about rm100 more expensive than then normal version..
but the black colour really adds a different feel to the watch...
and ion-plating is quite okay in terms of holding up against scratches...the hardness of the ion plating is actually similar to sapphire crystal..except that it's just a thin layer...probably a few micro meter...

The red second hand is driving me crazy... hehe. Great watch.

Here's the promise. Got this watch back in the afternoon (SNDA21P1).
A little aviator looking. I choose it cause its simply simple and nice.
Too bad it isn't Automatic movement that I wanted. Cause they don't have
the color I wanted (SNZG15K1 Black) instead they have Khaki, Beige & Navy.
Which is awful looking and hard to match. That's my 2 cents.

Chronograph automatic will cost you a lot loh. BUt I love military style watch.

Hell yeah! Got no faith getting Chrono with Automatic can't afford it!
Gonna hunt down (SNZG15K1 Black) next gonna mod to dark brown leather strap.
Just can't get over that watch when my first glance on it.

SNZG15K1 is with nylon strap. Yours is metal strap and your number could be lume in the dark well SNZG15K1 numbers aren't glow-in the dark.
I don't fancy metal chain strap, it pulls my skin hair and also its heavy.
So how you find out bout your watch? Do you own that? Share your experience owning it. And why you choose it.

I've had the watch for about a year dy...bought August last year...
when i bought it, i wasn't looking for any particular model..Me and my friend went to a watch shop he frequents...and the boss showed me a few watches and this caught my eye...although its about rm100 more expensive then the normal stainless steel version, i still go for it..
And it didn't disappoint me..have been wearing this as a daily watch since my casio beater died earlier this year..
Been holding up great against wear and scratches..which i believe due to the ion plating..my old casio beater looked heavily abused but this one still look like new...

Seiko 5 is actually scratch resistant although is not as hard as sapphire crystal they have proprietary crystal called "Hardlex" so it's harder than normal glass. Most cheap casio use plain glass or plastic of course will be scratched like hell after some time.

Even some higher end casio use hardlex instead of sapphire because of it's practicality, sapphire crystal is hard but more easy to crack when being shock. Hardlex crystal strike a good balance between scratch resistant and shock resistant. Normally they say seiko diver is as tough as g-shock.

no..i don't mean the crystal surface...my casio's mineral glass is scratchless...Hardlex is not that different from mineral glass..it's just seiko's tradename for their mineral glass...just like Lumbrite for their lume..

mineral glass no doubt is not that easy to scratch...unless you take sharp objects to cut it...
