New boys key for Europa
Roy Hodgson believes Liverpool's Europa League qualifying campaign will present any new signings with the perfect opportunity to make an instant impact at Anfield. The Reds will contest a third qualifying round tie against either Macedonian side Rabotnicki or Armenian outfit Mika, with the first leg scheduled for July 29. Hodgson has confirmed players who figured in the World Cup are unlikely to feature in the tie as they are allowed extra time to recover from their South Africa exertions - meaning any new arrivals at the club could be handed an instant chance to shine. "Possibly none of our World Cup players will play in the early Europa Cup games if we listen to the advice of the sports science people," said the boss. "They are telling me we would be very foolhardy to use players who have only been training for three or four days on the back of the World Cup that early on because that will affect us further on down the road. "If we feel we are endangering our chances of doing well in the Premier League by risking players in the early stage of the Europa League, it will be a decision the club will have to take. You have to follow the guidance. "Their advice is to not use these players. If we have enough players to put a team out without them is another question. "Things can happen before the 29th of July, we will not be speculating on that and there is no point in me making predictions of what the team will be like for that game. "The sports science people are advising me not to use the players from the World Cup. "Therefore new signings would become important for the Europa Cup." SOURCE |

Insua is a good player for me, with the potential to be great. Dont know why many are picking up on him. Yes he might lact the nous at times, but he is 20. Ngog too, need the exposure and, as well as Lucas, need some longer run in the first team to gain confidence. 2 seasons ago when Liverpool finish 2nd, many managers acclaim we have the best midfielders in England. The best variety. Alonso might have left but he is replaced by Aquilani so namely, we still have the same set of midfielders so shy cant we compete. Riera was a mistake of Benitez last season and now, Benny is gone. Hopefully Babel can get a run and seal his place, and blossom. He is a good player. Find a good LB, then maybe a Defender who can cover 2,3 positions (centre, right back, DM). That is the necessity I guess. If Torres is fiy for the whole season, the rest play like they can, and Aquilani showing his true value, Top 4 is ours, maybe we can even challenge for the title. |

QUOTE(Burningsunz @ Jul 18 2010, 07:23 PM) Liverpool eye Christian Poulsen move Replace a pacy DM with an aging uncle.Great! Liverpool are eyeing Juventus midfielder Christian Poulsen as a replacement for the soon-leaving Javier Mascherano. According to Tuttocalcionews.it, the Anfield club are willing to barter forward Dirk Kuyt in exchange for the Danish international as they prepare for the imminent departure of Mascherano from the club. On Juventus' side, the Italian giants are hoping to raise funds in order to strengthen other departments in their squad and the sale of Christian Poulsen could benefit the interests of both clubs. The two domestic giants will also be gunning for a Champions League spot this coming season after missing out on the premier European competition this year, leading to their respective appointments of a new manager. what is RH thinking?? |

Added on July 18, 2010, 9:25 pm QUOTE(solstice818 @ Jul 18 2010, 09:17 PM) hahaha...but for me...to have holding midfielder we doesn't need a similar player like masche... he can't even get Walcot in the champions league...he also easily get cards... we need clever midfielder who can keep the ball... see barca... how fast their midfielder? nope..but they keep the ball and pass to the striker...the only things now is..we need attacking minded team...no chance for opponent to counter...we need fast game... how solid is our team when dietmar hamman n mcalister control the midfield...solid defence...Gerrard need to have his form back...we need fast winger..who can shoot...cross the ball...last season was bad...no genuine winger.....we attack from the middle... i can count how many goals we get from header...This post has been edited by sissoko: Jul 18 2010, 09:25 PM |

"There is increased optimism that both stay with the Reds for the 2010-11 campaign, something that will give Hodgson £40m transfer war-chest, provided Javier Mascherano's move to Inter Milan gets the green-light.
If the star pair do leave, the kitty will rise to almost £140m, allowing Hodgson to bid for high-profile replacements." WAH...140M...If gerrard, torres n mascherano out...we can add a lot of player into the squad...promising team (just a dream) with 140 Million: Goalkeeper 1. Joe Hart (10 mil) Defender 1. Jerome Boateng (10 Mil) 2. Joan Capdevila (15 mil) Midfield 1. Arda Turan (free) 2. Joe Cole (free) 3. Juan Mata ( 15 Mil) 4. Ashley Young (10 Mil) 5. Sami Khedira (15 Mil) Striker 1. Sergio Aguerro (20 Mil) 2. Diego Forlan (20 Mil) TOTAL : 115 Million... still have 25 million..hahaha ...just for fun..but if this happened....? me thinks if mascherano still not answering those calls..he's a blardy basterd then..lucas is definately gonna step up this season & we could well see gerrard sticking back to midfield role..i just hope RH can somehow get ever banega & remy (the new henry) in..darfur is not on his radar me thinks..best choice for left back ? the tried & trusted agger can do job there too..

If Zamora can turn into a terrific striker that fires Fulham to final, why not Lucas? For someone who received Bola de Ouro at a younger age than Kaka, Alex, Tevez, Romario and Falcao, I expect him to be better than he was last season.I always thought that he is way better as attacking midfielder than a holding midfielder. |

I remember there was a competition last season which we managed to proceed thanks to goal from Lucas for both Home and Away match. I really couldn't recall which cup, but definitely Lucas scored in both Home and Away and we managed to escape with only 1 goal advantage. |

I don't know what you ate, nor what you drank, neither do I know what you're smoking, but this has got to be the most ridiculous line up for the 2010/2011 season. Having Joe Hart as a goalkeeper when we've already got José Manuel "Pepe" Reina Páez aka "The Showstopper". There are more fallacies to your suggestion, but I'll refrain from commenting. If the star pair do leave, the kitty will rise to almost £140m, allowing Hodgson to bid for high-profile replacements."
