I hope Roy knows what he's doing. And we're definitely going to sign another player or two before the season starts. Our left back position is currently vacant other than probably chris mavinga?

Sad haha.
Both on the cancellation and the Insua news.
Maybe from this RH can promote a good, young, English player. I think there are a few in the reserves but cant recalled any at the moment.

Just checked Wikipedia and he's a free agent now, left Liverpool last month due to the reason mentioned by kcmy.

Well, he's one of my favorite leftback for Liverpool compared with Insua which needs to be groomed much more.

From ESPNSTAR

Is Joe Cole headed to Anfield?

Roy Hodgson is happy to see Liverpool linked with Joe Cole, but insists he has not held talks over a deal for the midfielder.

Cole is looking for a new club after being released by Chelsea and he has attracted interest from London rivals Arsenal and Tottenham.

However, bookmakers have suspended betting on which club Cole will join next season amid rumours the England international is bound for Anfield.

Reds boss Hodgson has not spoken to the 28-year-old recently and refused to expand on rumours he could become a Liverpool player.

"I'm not a betting man so that doesn't actually play a big part that betting is suspended," Hodgson told Sky Sports News.

"I don't even know enough about betting to know what that means.

"As far as I know, Joe Cole is still a player looking for a club.

"I know we've been connected with him, and it's good to know we're connected with players of that quality, but I don't have anything to report on the subject.

"I haven't had any discussions with him, but I had a brief chat a while back.

"If you want to know about transfer targets, and how things are progressing, you'll have to ask (managing director) Christian Purslow because he's the man looking after those discussions, not me."

Hodgson also revealed he met with Liverpool co-owner George Gillett prior to the club's opening pre-season friendly against Al-Hilal in Austria being postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

He added: "It was nice to meet him, of course. I don't know him very well, but it was nice to speak to him.

"It was good of him to come to the game. It's a pity that, I'm sure, like the rest of us he would have liked to have seen Liverpool play."

Do u guys feel that RH is getting more transfer budget than RB?

Fiorentina rubbish Insua claims

Fiorentina have dismissed claims they have made a bid for Liverpool full-back Emiliano Insua.

The Italians have been linked with a summer swoop for Argentine defender, who moved to Anfield in 2006.

Reports suggested that Fiorentina had lodged a bid of £3.5million for Insua, but this has now been dismissed.

"Interest for Insua? I don't even know him," said Viola CEO Sandro Menucci.

"It is the first day of the market and a bit too soon for this."

Menucci was also asked about the futures of Alberto Gilardino, Juan Manuel Vargas and Sebastian Frey.

"The players who are unsellable are those indicating their wish to stay and show attachment to the jersey," he said.

"Gilardino has shown it and he remains in Florence.

"Vargas and Frey? They're on holiday, there is nothing to clarify with them. The team is competitive, we are almost okay, (sports director, Pantaleo) Corvino will do what must be done."

Liverpool sell Insua to Violas

Liverpool have agreed a fee with Fiorentina for the sale of defender Emiliano Insua to the Serie A side.

The Argentinian had a difficult season as injury to Fabio Aurelio meant he was first-choice left-back for most of the campaign and that eventually took its toll on his performances.

Insua left the club's training camp in Switzerland to have talks with the Serie A outfit.

His imminent departure, combined with Aurelio being released after his contract expired, means manager Roy Hodgson's priority is finding a new left-back as soon as possible.

"We have agreed a fee for the sale of Emiliano Insua to Fiorentina and given them permission to speak with the player," said a club spokesman.

"Emiliano has now left our Swiss training camp and we'll make further comment when appropriate."

Insua arrived at Anfield in January 2007 from Boca Juniors and played 62 matches for the Reds.

Liverpool's friendly against Al-Hilal in Switzerland this evening has been called off after the pitch was deemed unplayable following heavy rain.

It means Hodgson will have to wait until Wednesday, when they face Swiss side Grasshoppers, for his first game since taking over from Rafael Benitez on July 1.

Heh. Maybe the rumours made them think about Insua and chased him right after the interview on the 2nd of July.

Cisse was fast. but that guy is more fragile than a 5 dollar vase. He broke his leg RUNNING, without any challenges.

I don't understand why he wants maynor figueroa. Insua is a mediocre player in a big club with alot of room for improvement. Figueroa is a mediocre player in a mediocre club play probably at his peak. And both for the same price. I'd rather bring back warnock or riise.
