OC version or not, it's just a gimmick. Unless you really do appreciate out-of-the-box performance and do not bother overclocking on your own.
Actually at this point, I think what really matters are the coolers. Some people are naturally biased against reference coolers xD

Sometimes, certain brands do offer capacitors that are a lot better, but those usually cost a lot more. For instance the Gigabyte SOC, or MSI Lightning. These appeals to overclockers who wants to challenge the limits with their ultra-pimped up configurations =P

Just my opinion.

it depends......

sapphire offer a nice vapor chamber cooler, but dint allow voltage control.

u wan something like MSI lightning o ASUS TOP which provide voltage control + more power phase.

What is the safe bet to OC 5870 using the Catalyst Overdrive? So far the temp I get is ~50 Celcius on Idle and ~75 Celcius on full load, using stock speed and HAF932 casing. Can I push it a further more? Getting 20k score in 3DMark06.

Mine is Asus EAH5870 v2. And I plan to use the Catalyst Overdrive instead of Voltage tweak as I'm still beginner in voltage tweak.

I just changed my Asus 5870 First Reference Card to Artic Cooling Extreme Tri Fans, performance is really superb. Let me list down the benefit after install it.

1) Quiet, I set my fan 50% and you cant even hear a thing. Increase fan speed to 100% and there is not much noise compare with 50% fans speed in reference card.

2) Temperature wise, at 50% fan speed I got idle at 45C, and in air con 24c environment it can reach 36C (roughly, have to check again for confirmation, but definitely is 30++C), 100% fan speed (without air con) is 40C.

Price is around RM200+ for the cooler. A good performance cooler for such a monster graphic card. I haven't checked on the full load cause usually idle won't make a lot of diff when compare with every cooler. And I just reformat my OS, not yet install 3dMark. ><
