Cost ranges from RM150 & above depending on the vet & procedure.
Pros Usually will have less smell from the cage as they have lost their jewels that make them territorial & scent mark. Secondly, population control. Cons Risk during surgery till recovery (self-mutilation) which depends mainly on the vet & what type of procedure. Procedures As far as I know, there are 3 types of procedures. 1 is to remove not only the testicles, the area around the scrotum as well. 2 is to use a type of laser to remove just the testicles & scrotum. 3 is just to remove the testicles. Leaving the scrotum still attatched. Dr. Jenny encouraged the 3rd procedure as it requires minimal tissue handling, equals to quicker & cleaner procedure & minimal chance of the glider getting irritated/itchy/infection around the neutered area. 2nd procedure is simple & quick but I heard there were some complications after surgery so it's not recommended. 1st requires the most tissue handling & risk, irritation, infection etc are all more likely to happen as to compared to the 3rd. Gliders I know that underwent the 1st procedure is KP's Iggy by Taman Megah's Dr. Yeoh. Also the first pet glider to be neutered in Malaysia, if I remember correctly. Good thing about 3rd procedure, your glider still has a scrotum hanging, which still makes him look like a male. I've had some ppl asking me about neutering while inquiring about my gliders for adoption but quite a few of them did not understand why I specified only 1 or 2 vets they must go to for treatment & neutering. Reasons are - They are exotic pets. Not all vets can treat exotic pets. Most vets don't even accept exotic pets for treatment. - Neutering is not an easy job. The tubes connecting the testicles to the body are finer than thread. Most vets don't even carry the extra fine surture needed for such a delicate procedure. - Miscalculation of anesthesia & overdose = accidental euthanasia = death This post has been edited by Reanne: Jul 31 2010, 06:36 AM |

did u got ur glider as adult or joey?and how long u have had ur glider?
there are diferent bite for joey and adult usually light bite more like a nip tat not puncture the skins and the threated bite tat cost bleeding but u can try stoping ur glider by poking at thier nose OR blowing at thier face then say "no" to them personally i prefered poking at the nose this will puzzle them for few sec so while i say "no" and point tat finger at them. normally they will stare at tat finger while i pull the finger tat got biten away.have to do untill they learn it worng to bite hard on ur finger or hand sometimes i will dip my finger with honey , yogurt or hpw then let them lick clean this will ensure tat they remember when my finger is near they will be rewarded not threats. im sure u like them to lick then bite ur finger right! biting normaly get lessen when ur glider got bonded so give some pation and time and follow bonding methods on the first page This post has been edited by maxtee: Aug 1 2010, 04:29 PM |

Hi, to update ppl on vets, I've heard that there is a Dr. Prem at Hands n Paws willing to treat exotics. She's a jr vet but vets willing to learn and treat exotics are very hard to come by.
So, everyone do appreciate exotics vets as there arent many. This post has been edited by Reanne: Aug 6 2010, 11:40 PM |

Hi guys......I just bought a digital scale and my mom and I just weighing our babies. Peanut is 142 grams..Mia with twins (the size of 5 cents each in the pouch ) 92 grams..Apple is 73 grams..Gizmo 52 grams...our new babies Bell 35 grams and Bella 37 grams and also Kiwi 38 grams. We think that Kiwi is having problem cause her tail is not fluffy even though she have great appetite (maybe worm) and I was thinking to bring them 3 for check up (Kiwi/Bell/Bella). Maybe I will try to see Dr. Prem cause the clinic is quite near from my place (driving to PJ) and YES we have a new addition in our sugies family TWILEENA..she's about 2.5 years and weigh 87 grams. She was given to my mom since her twins/mate Damian got lost on 25/07/10...my friend ( a member of this thread) and could not bear to loose another one, so...he ask my mom to take care for him. My mom is quite keen on exotic animals herself.
