I'm actually malaysian working in singapore as a doctor for 2 years. I'm a loyal Astro fan since i was form 3. But when i went back to malaysia recently i found out that malaysian Astro HD is not up to standard compare to singapore HD. I felt bad for malaysian consumers of them paying so much for lower quality product and having high hope for this company. I think they should improve themself and should have more tv companies so they are more competitive. Just my 2 cents guys...No offence...whatever ppl waiting for PVR..we have it here with HD.

just got byond installed yesterday..

1) the pq is great but the volume of the sd channels are so low even in full volume..is there any way to rectify it?

2) can I get 5.1 sound if I connect the HDMI cable directly from the decoder to my av receiver and then the receiver to my tv?

3) is anyone selling coaxial cable to optical cable converter here?

Care to elaborate more about the standard thing and the lower quality product part? You mean less channel? Or quality of the HD channels? Or the design of the decoder?

TallJustin,

What is the online B.player?

One question about the PVR, would it also be able to accommodate an external HDD?

I took a look at V2.0 last night briefly but did not see any major changes to the EPG. Is there more work being done on the EPG?
*
b.player is online video it's also on the iPhone app store

no you can't connect an external HDD to the PVR at the moment, why would you want to?

EPG data will be improving soon, GUI is the same

I have B.yond as the 1st decoder and AstroMax as a second decoder (@RM 38 per month).
When I called Astro about upgrading the AstroMax to the B.yond PVR, they said:
1. no charge for the PVR (RM 300 waived)
2. no recording charge for 12 months (RM 10 per month waived)
BUT
3. need to pay additional RM 20 per month for the B.yond service on the 2nd decoder. WTF!

I am thinking of canceling my 2nd decoder (hardly watch) and sell off my AstroMax decoder?

TVB Content On StarHub Gets Greater And Fresher‬‪
Astro's On Demand [TVB Same Day Same Time Telecast] is so much better than what Starhub is offering. Starhub could not match it as TVB still needs to protect the local home video distributor's interest. sad.gif

I'm pretty sure we are getting  it in 4:3 out of Singapore. the BBC does have a wide screen feed but I don't think we are taking it in.
*
Hey TalllJustin, I've written to Starhub and BBC World to offer widescreen 16:9 for Starhub viewers....it was a long chain of e-mails and months of testing before Starhub finally offered it. I feel you should fight this for Astro Widescreen TV viewers since Widescreen TV is the norm nowadays. For broadcasters still broadcastings in SD 4:3 and who have no pans to go HD, they should at least upgrade to SD 16:9.....my 2 cents. Thanks. biggrin.gif

RM20 is for HD charge, off course you need to pay. If you want it waived for 12 months, buy Samsung TV, they have promo now whistling.gif

*Or you don't need to subscribe to HD package, so no additional RM20 monthly icon_idea.gif

8. Must I subscribe to HD in order to get the Astro B.yond PVR?
No, you do not need to subscribe to HD. However, you will not be able to enjoy and record the Astro
HD channels. We recommend that you consider taking our HD channels for a better viewing
experience.
Note: RM10 monthly recording service fee is compulsory with the Astro B.yond PVR box.

Most of movies are shot with aspect ratio of 21:9 not 16:9, because it was meant originally for cinema.

Therefore, even if you watch a movie, in so called 16:9 format, it is not the correct aspect ratio & cinematography effect intended by the movie director.
*
I'm talking about TV shows like CSI or the Simpsons, BBC News articles etc. I highly doubt any of these are produced in cinema aspect ratios.

21:9 ratio only for movie. Regular drama series and news are surely on 16:9. smile.gif

My humble opinion there is nothing wrong in comparing for a good course. drool.gif We always hear our leaders say We are the best ! we are the cheapest in this region and so on at least now we get the truth to compare! hmm.gif

I think WC is $S100 on starhub

I agree rclxms.gif No one buys 4:3 TVs nowaday so it only makes sense that channels migrate to the new standard format.
