I think you have to look at bro TallJustin's posting in the other thread

http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopi...post&p=34056577

QUOTE
THe HDD must be a drive that meets our power consumtion white paper for the decoder and at the moment the only one that I'm aware of that does this is a WD HDD (I'm using a WD My Passport AV). Others suck up too much power and they will will not work.

This doesn't sound "compatible", it sound more like "you can only use this WD model...." shocking.gif

which part of the below post don't you understand?

QUOTE(TallJustin @ Jun 1 2010, 09:14 PM)
... They tested lots of HDD and many have a built in reboot function when left on longer then 24 hours, this of course would interrupt a record. Most are just too heavy on sucking the juice during power up.

I think then rather then just opening it up for any old HDD which could cause poor recording or even damage the decoder they have made a white paper and at the moment only the WD My Passport AV 320GB passes it.

astro pvr will be more useful, watch one channel and record the other. if using ext. hdd, which can only record the current channel u watching then no point in paying the rm5, just use the video out to record using PC via encorder. Just my 2 sen worth.. smile.gif

Do not undervalue the ability to pause and rewind the TV program (and subsequently FF through the commercial breaks)

WHEN IS THE TIME MACHINE COMING???? laugh.gif

For information, WD My Passport AV 320GB is the only drive that compatible with Sony Video Recoder. Maybe this HDD is special.
*
Maybe the power usage specifications comply with Astro requirements and whitepaper, huh

Maybe even the product ID has been hardcoded into the Byond decoder software...

Imagine that

ok, let's stop this comparison... as in all things some plus, some minus

However, I like the fact that for Starhub, you only have one subscription and can rent as many decoders as you need, instead of having multiple subscriptions. This is really gouging the customers, Astro.

Actually I would yell at the Astro CS first before paying that 300

Also, you might want to check earlier in this thread someone was trying to help people like you - who had given back the Astro Max for the byond, and now have to pay 300 instead of just getting a free upgrade.

Unfortunately one of the other posters replied him quite rudely and he has might have stopped offering to help. Maybe if you ask nicely...

This Astro is a monopoly. They only replace channels  to take out old channels and not add channels.

really, so you haven't seen any new channels ever?

and what's that got to do with Astro being a monopoly?

complain for the sake of complaining... doh.

if I recall correctly, the CSR said

1. there is no contract for PVR (with or without HD channels)
2. there is no contract byond + recording function
3. that upon activating the recording function the one year contract is cancelled.

can someone verify this?

Monster cable is better than normal AV cable.

HDMI (meant for HD) is much better than monster cable which is just an improved version of AV cable (meant for DVD).

do you really know this stuff, or do you just feel compelled to answer just for the heck of it?
