The feed here in SIN for STAR WORLD is in 4:3....was in HK recently and the hotels had the same channel in 4:3 too. Could be a typo on Wiki. rclxub.gif

Could be. I find it strange because almost all the programmes shown must have been filmed in 16:9 anyways. Why not just broadcast them like that.
*
the only channels in whole of Asia broadcasting in SD 16:9 are BBC World and DW-TV Asia. Broadcasters fault. wink.gif

TVB Content On StarHub Gets Greater And Fresher‬‪
Astro's On Demand [TVB Same Day Same Time Telecast] is so much better than what Starhub is offering. Starhub could not match it as TVB still needs to protect the local home video distributor's interest. sad.gif

I'm pretty sure we are getting  it in 4:3 out of Singapore. the BBC does have a wide screen feed but I don't think we are taking it in.
*
Hey TalllJustin, I've written to Starhub and BBC World to offer widescreen 16:9 for Starhub viewers....it was a long chain of e-mails and months of testing before Starhub finally offered it. I feel you should fight this for Astro Widescreen TV viewers since Widescreen TV is the norm nowadays. For broadcasters still broadcastings in SD 4:3 and who have no pans to go HD, they should at least upgrade to SD 16:9.....my 2 cents. Thanks. biggrin.gif

The Discovery HD channel available in Asia is known as 'Discovery HD World'.

http://www.starhub.com/entertainment/chann...eryhdworld.html

Contrary to popular belief, programs like 'Man Vs. Wild', 'Mythbusters' etc. are not seen on the channel......instead u get old programs acquired from Discovery World HD Canada or third party suppliers like Cable Ready, program "Stunt Stars".

Discovery HD World is also not available in many HD platforms in Asia like Philippiines' Cignal [http://www.cignal.tv/] and Vietnam's VTC HD [http://hdtv.vtc.vn/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=14:goi-kenh-hd-2&catid=5&Itemid=18]

It will come eventually...... smile.gif

Guys is this recording fee a common practice in other countries ? Let us say they charge a fee is it for recording everyday scrap or for exclusive series on one go ? I think its unfair to impose RM10 above the normal subscription and HD fees  to just record the same content we paid for watching. flex.gif  If we can gather more info we  can take this matter up further. I feel it is NOT fair to charge for recording for personel use hmm.gif This issue  is like : mama dua masalay !!!!!!!!!!!!" rclxm9.gif Perhaps our singapore friends can share some info too nod.gif

A duplication fee also applies here. It’s S$8.56 applies for every additional box subscribed….the reasoning is that it’s a duplication fee which they need to pay to the copyright owners [a different body for Visuals & music]…..believe it affects every country.

However, the cost is already factored inside the cost of the additional box subscribed…..and it’s in fine print. 8-(

Free viewing of eight HD channels for StarHub TV customers

Singapore, 29 June 2010 – StarHub TV viewers can soon enjoy more of their favourite channels in full High Definition (HD) glory. StarHub TV will be boosting its channel offerings with the launch of seven new HD channels progressively from July 2010.

The new HD channels kicking off on 1 July 2010 are FOX HD, FX HD, Nat Geo Wild HD and STAR World HD, while Food Network Asia HD will be launched on 5 July. Another two HD channels – FOXCRIME HD and Nat Geo Adventure HD – will be launched on 16 September 2010.

As a treat for StarHub TV customers, StarHub is offering free viewing of the seven new HD channels, together with AXN HD, from launch until 31 December 2010. The free viewing is open to customers who subscribe to the corresponding Standard Definition (SD) channels. StarHub TV’s HD channels are available only for customers with a HubStation HD, HD Interactive set-top box [1] or HD set-top box.

With the addition of the seven new channels, the total number of HD channels available on StarHub TV will be increased to 14, making StarHub the provider to offer the widest range of HD TV content in Singapore, ranging from sports, movies, lifestyle, education and entertainment. Local viewers can look forward to catching premium HD content in real time on StarHub TV and be assured of the reliability and immediacy of its quality network.

Said Ms Ong Bee Lian, Vice President of Home Solutions, StarHub, "StarHub strives to provide the best entertainment programmes for our customers with an excellent and reliable viewing experience. With 14 HD channels onboard, StarHub is well-positioned to be the Home Of HD in Singapore with the widest and most interesting selection of HD content for our customers."

"As Asia’s largest international network, our launch of six new HD channels on StarHub TV marks a significant milestone for Fox International Channels. With the launch of FOX HD, FOXCRIME HD, FX HD, Nat Geo Adventure HD, Nat Geo Wild HD and STAR World HD, in addition to the existing National Geographic Channel HD, StarHub TV subscribers have a full suite of HD channels from across multiple genres in general and factual entertainment. We will continue to entertain our audience in Singapore with greater choices, top quality content and a high quality viewing experience right in the comfort of their own homes," said Mr Avinash Himatsinghani, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Southeast Asia, Fox International Channels.

Existing customers who wish to have their set-top boxes changed can bring their set-top boxes down to any StarHub Customer Service Centre for a one-to-one swop and self-install. The public who wish to take on a StarHub TV package can call 1630 or visit www.starhub.com/tv for more information.

Reliance & Airtel HD DTH in India does not have DSC HD World too but almost everyone has NGC HD.....sounds like Discovery is greedy and asking for a lot of money from operators.

not quite true... because this ESPN HD is playout by astro themselves... i still remember they played their own astro byond advertisement, with the ESPN HD logo in it.... so i'm quite sure that they are the ones controlling the channel/playout from astro's site... perhaps they have really forgotten to remove that LIVE word lol

you're right....below is a screengrab of the ESPN HD SEA/Singapore channel - the channel bug is different.

wooo, nice one, u subscribing to mio tv and its hd services or starhub? lol... they r migrating espn to mio soon, ahahah

am a sucker for HD channels....so I have both....mio has NDTV 24x7, NDTV Good Times [both SD] & Sundance HD which Starhub does not have. Competition is good as they will grab different channels for viewers.

We do not have a Chinese or Canto HD channel so one up for Astro. tongue.gif

Yes..that is exactly the point of my frustration and anger..does Astro not know how bad the Singapore in-house channel failed and failed miserably to impress their Singaporean viewers? Our Singaporeans neighbours were cying out loud for the return of ESPN to show their EPL..they even set up a petition trying to have their EPL coverage on ESPN..now the Singaporeans have their wish come true because they will now enjoy EPL on ESPN..n what does Astro the genius do? Yup..throw away ESPN's coverage and produce their own! Based on their World Cup performance and presentation, Astro have a long way to impress the viewers..doh.gif

BPL in Singapore will not be seen via ESPN STAR SPORTS but Singtel's in-house channel.

The production house is ING.

see this http://info.singtel.com/node/7211

For Astro, instead of tying up with ING, they decided to do it in-house.....maybe it's chepaer this way.

read somewhere [can't remember where] that Astro originated ESPN HD feed will be taken over by ESPN Singapore HQ to provide the playout around wee hours of Aug. 1.

the giveaway is the change of ESPN HD logo ["HD" in black will change to white in color, similar to the ESPN HD Singapore logo].

Look out for it. Cheers!

So later on, we're simulcasting same feed as Singapore too?
*
Reply to Qash-M and dxjb:

The feed now on Astro should be the one beaming out from Singapore. The feed may differ slightly from Singapore as Singtel has BPL rights.....ESPN HD MAL may have some MAL only programs. For MAL, i believe the BPL rights seems to be shared between Astro and ESS.

There is no Sportscenter in HD on ESPN HD SIN....ESPN HD is not a mirror of the main ESPN channel. sad.gif
