You're a doctor? Now I feel pity for Singaporeans for having a doctor who can't even type and spell nicely, what if you spell the wrong prescription? But hell if you're a doctor, I'm a space scientist!

I have just requested for Beyond to be installed. Astro told me that the installation is free if I swapped the decoder, remote controller and the satellite dish. However if I intend to keep the decoder and remote I have to pay RM100 for the installation.

Is there any use if I keep the decoder? Can I bring to another room or another house to watch Astro if I keep the decoder? If there is no use for it then I might as well swap them for a free installation of Beyond.

Your advice is much appreciated.

1- Just plug HDMI cable from decoder to your AVR
2- Change Audio settings at decoder to 5.1 Dolby Digital
3- Done.

Your will experince best 5.1 audio only on NGC HD. Good luck..

Sharpy,

Just let go of teh decoder lah. No point keeping it. The new B.yond Box is paired with the SMC. That means the card can't be used with any other box. If you keep as a spare also no use. If sell outside also people will only buy it for RM30-RM50. No reason to keep if you ask me.

We seriously don't need personal attacks here.

So far the only Malaysian company that can/should compete with Astro is TM Net. Beyond Unifi, they can install FIOS; it's a substantial long-term investment but if they can do it, Astro would seem second rate. Once Astro's monopoly clause is over, TM can launch their own satellites to cover Sabah and Sarawak (limited FIOS access) and regional countries (satellite only). But this discussion is not this thread.

Fuad,

What monopoly clause are you talking about here? Here...

- Bernama

The problem is since March 2009, even though 7 companies have the license and Astro no longer have the monopoly, no one comes forward to save us from Astro's Monopoly. As this rate, I think the one who is second rate is the other 7 companies.

Oh well this is not the place to discuss this anyway.

Seem like your HTiB doesn't have digital coax input, right?
If so, you can't. DD 5.1 can only connect using HDMI or digital coax output from byond decoder

RM20 is for HD charge, off course you need to pay. If you want it waived for 12 months, buy Samsung TV, they have promo now  whistling.gif

*Or you don't need to subscribe to HD package, so no additional RM20 monthly  icon_idea.gif

I've bought the Samsung LCD tv and subscribe the byond promotion. Now I've been waiting for 2 weeks for Astro to call me up for the installation appointment. Then I call Astro callcentre and they informed me that no such order for my home installation. Yikes... then I call the shop and they mentioned need to send to their HQ first and then to Samsung bla bla bla. Then I call Samsung careline and they informed me that dealer cans end the byond order directly to Astro. D@mn it. For those wanna see World Cup in HD, better apply byond yourself and followup with Astro.... not much time my fren to ding-dong with the electrical retailer shops. Save the RM240 on other cheaper models or just ask the shop to lower the Samsung price without the byond promo... i believe they can lower it by RM100 to RM150.
