Assto controls channels nobody can deny it,thats why channels take time to come to Malaysia, Singapore does not impose anything on content providers but here our friend haves them under its spell but claims and blames the providers for all shortfalls! Providers with pride take off like MGM flex.gif Discovery HD has still got to meet the requirements I think so it may take time !

Hi Jpaul, you can verirfied your HDMI by connecting the other side of HDMI to laptop/notebook with HDMI output. If the same problem output.. I believe your LCD got problem. But if you play movie from you laptop and the sound & movie come put normally.. I sure the PVR decoder got problem..

For the time being, Astro only offered Dolby Digital 5.1 audio, limited to HD Channels only. And not all programs on HD Channels are available in DD 5.1 Surround. For normal SD channels, only STEREO sound available....

Ok, now, you don't need to "kacau" your Plasma TV aspect ratio setting, just leave it to 16:9...

The aspect ratio setting actually available on the decoder itself...

The phenomena that you're currently facing is known as Pillarbox... It is actually the actual format to show 4:3 video on 16:9 widescreen TV

To change your aspect ratio setting on your decoder, press the following buttons on your remote...

Home > Settings > Installation Settings > TV Settings

Before you enter the installation settings, it will ask for the pin code. Just enter "0000" and you done...

After you have enter the TV settings, find the "Conversion for 4:3 input video"

They have 3 options to choose from, first is Pillarbox (default settings), second is fit-to-screen and third is Zoom...

Select "fit-to-screen" and your problem will be solved smile.gif ... Fit-to-screen will stretch all of 4:3 channel on Astro and filled your screen...

Do u use a Panasonic?

If yes, then the Panny does not scale a 1080i signal. So I would suggest to change the zoom on the beyond to stretch to fit.

If ur using a non full HD TV, you should select 720p in the byond box resolution. Only use 1080i if ur using a FULL HD TV. Try both resolutions and you'll surely see the difference.

To fix ur problem on zoom, no it will not make a different to set to 720p. The panny does not scale a 4:3 HD signal. So u hv to use the b.yond to scale ie fit to screen.

IMHO the Just scaling of the Panny is better but u don't have an option else, u need to have 2 ouputs from the b.yond box one for SD or for HD and its not ideal.

Other brands allow scaling of a HD source.

I am using ext compatible WD AV 320 GB drive and doing recording since yesterday. Last nt i recoded movie from TV2. On play back it froze at one section and then only audio was audible but timer going on. Another episode of "Everyone Loves Raymond" was ok. The "David Letterman show" also had slight interruptions. Anyone have similar experience?

My recording service got activated today. I'm using the external hard disk option. The lack of dual tuner is not a problem for me, with tonnes of repeats by Astro, I can record the repeats either late at night or when I'm at work. Just schedule and leave the decoder on. Sweeeet!

Interesting. I just saw the promo for Parenthood on FX HD. It's supposed to start soon. But the promo is in HD and the channel it would be on is Star World.

Don't read much into it. It's just a promo.
