Engine: 1.6L Campro IAFM - P. Persona.
Brand: Shell Helix HXZ Oil Type: 10w-40 Semi Synthetic Price: RM99 per 4L My Thoughts: Just alright. Engine gets a little lazy as it nears 10k KM. My rating: 3/5 Brand: Toyota Oil Type: 10w-30 Semi synthetic Price: RM91 per 4L My thoughts: Superb. FC was better, far better acceleration and far better engine response. Engine feels much willing to move then before. Still feels good even when its nearing 10k KM. My rating: 5/5 Brand: Pennzoil Platinum Oil Type: 5w-30 Semi synthetic Price: RM89.50 per 4L My thoughts: To be advised - Just bought it. My rating: To be advised |

I hope this is the right thread to raise my inquiry here after I have search through F&F section.
Would like to ask SIFUsss here... What is the right procedure to check the engine oil level (by checking the dipstick)? Or should I say when is the right time to check that? Start or do not start the engine and check? Cause I have this scenario :- i. If the engine is off, I can't see any oil level when I take out the dipstick. ii. If the engine is running, when I pull out the dipstick, I can see the engine oil level is near to the lowest level. P/S - I am using fully syn engine oil and currently only clocks 5,500km. By right it should able to sustain till 8,000km of mileage, at least. |

I think my engine oil is real low. But I wonder where does the oil gone to? So far no oil leak symptom observed around the engine area. There is also no oil mark on the floor underneath the engine bay. That's why I am curious to find out. I told my mechanic, he said might be evaporate d. I was like if you can't see the oil then your engine oil is really2 low. better to top up some oil. your engine might be leaking oil. |

Best time to check is right before u start ur engine for the first time of the day...aka after the engine has been off for several hours...which is usually in the morning

A few days ago I changed engine oil at a workshop.
After pouring some, he turned on engine and checked dipstick oil level. The dipstick showed it was one-third full. Then he topped up again, checked dipstick again...until full. but then, this morning i checked oil level before start engine, the level was 30% above FULL. Had the foreman used the correct method ?? Any side effect if the oil is too much ?? |

I have a question;
I am currently using Shell branded engine oil, which has the so-called cleaning properties inside the oil to clean up the engine nicely... (Which I really like.) But are there also other brand(s) of engine oils out there that also offers this cleaning/cleansing properties inside their oils (just like Shell)? Please recommend if you know. Thanks a lot in advance. |
