The Manchu people (Manchu: Manjui gisun.svg Manju; simplified Chinese: 满族; traditional Chinese: 滿族; pinyin: Mǎnzú, Mongolian: Манж, Russian: Маньчжуры; Fuzhou dialect: 旗下囝 Kì-hâ-giāng (IPA: [ki˨˩ a˥˧ iaŋ˧]) are a Tungusic people who originated in Manchuria (today's northeastern China). During their rise in the seventeenth century, with the help of the Ming dynasty rebels (such as general Wu Sangui), they came to power in China and founded the Qing Dynasty, which ruled China until the Xinhai Revolution of 1911, which established a republican government in its place.
The Manchu ethnicity has largely been assimilated with the Han Chinese. The Manchu language is almost extinct, now spoken only among a small number of elderly people in remote rural areas of northeastern China and a few scholars; there are around ten thousand speakers of Sibe (Xibo), a Manchu dialect spoken in the Ili region of Xinjiang. In recent years, however, there has been a resurgence of interest in Manchu culture among both ethnic Manchus and Han. The number of Chinese today with some Manchu ancestry is quite large,[4] and the adoption of favorable policies towards ethnic minorities (such as preferential university admission, government employment opportunities and exemption from the one child policy) has encouraged some people with mixed Han and Manchu ancestry to re-identify themselves as Manchu. |

The Qing Dynasty (Chinese: 清朝; pinyin: Qīng Cháo; Wade-Giles: Ch'ing ch'ao; IPA: [t͡ɕʰíŋ t͡ʂʰɑ̌ʊ̯]; Manchu: Daicing gurun.png, Von Möllendorff: Daicing gurun), also known as the Manchu Dynasty, was the last ruling dynasty of China, ruling from 1644 to 1912 (with a brief, abortive restoration in 1917). It was preceded by the Ming Dynasty and followed by the Republic of China.
The dynasty was founded by the Manchu clan Aisin Gioro in what is today northeast China (also known as Manchuria). Starting in 1644 it expanded into China proper and its surrounding territories, establishing the Empire of the Great Qing (simplified Chinese: 大清国; traditional Chinese: 大清國; pinyin: Dà Qīng Guó; Wade-Giles: Ta Ch'ing Kuo, or simplified Chinese: 大清帝国; traditional Chinese: 大清帝國; pinyin: Dà Qīng Dì Guó; Wade-Giles: Ta Ch'ing Ti Kuo). Complete pacification of China was accomplished around 1683 under the Kangxi Emperor. Originally established as the Later Jin Dynasty (simplified Chinese: 后金; traditional Chinese: 後金; pinyin: hòu jīn) Amaga Aisin Gurun (Amaga aisin gurun1.png) in 1616, it changed its name to "Qing", meaning "clear" or "pellucid" in 1636. In 1644 Beijing was sacked by a coalition of rebel forces led by Li Zicheng, a minor Ming official turned leader of the peasant revolt. The last Ming Emperor Chongzhen committed suicide when the city fell, marking the official end of the dynasty. The Manchu Qing dynasty then allied with Ming Dynasty general Wu Sangui and seized control of Beijing and overthrew Li's short-lived Shun Dynasty. During its reign the Qing Dynasty became highly integrated with Chinese culture. The dynasty reached its height in the 18th century, during which both territory and population were increased. However, its military power weakened hereafter and faced with massive rebellions and defeats in wars, the Qing Dynasty declined after the mid-19th century. The Qing Dynasty was overthrown following the Xinhai Revolution, when the Empress Dowager Longyu abdicated on behalf of the last emperor, Puyi, on February 12, 1912. |

The Xinhai Revolution or Hsinhai Revolution (Chinese: 辛亥革命; pinyin: Xīnhài Gémìng), also known as the 1911 Revolution or the Chinese Revolution, began with the Wuchang Uprising on October 10, 1911 and ended with the abdication of Emperor Puyi on February 12, 1912. The primary parties to the conflict were the Imperial forces of the Qing Dynasty (1644–1911) and the revolutionary forces of the Chinese Revolutionary Alliance (Tongmenghui). The revolution is so named because 1911 is a "Xinhai Year" in the sexagenary cycle of the Chinese calendar.
The revolution was motivated by anger at corruption in the Qing government, frustration with the government's inability to restrain the interventions of foreign powers, and resentment of the majority Han Chinese toward a government dominated by an ethnic minority (the Manchus). The revolution did not immediately result in a republican government; instead, it set up a weak provisional central government over a politically fragmented country. The monarchy was briefly and abortively restored twice, and there was a period of military rule. Though the revolution concluded on February 12, 1912, when the Republic of China formally replaced the Qing Dynasty, internal conflict persisted. The nation endured a failed Second Revolution, a Warlord Era and the Chinese Civil War before the communists took control on October 1, 1949. Discussions of the issues surrounding the Xinhai Revolution are often politically charged, as the events that followed played a role in the histories of both the Republic of China and the People's Republic of China. Nevertheless, the Xinhai Revolution was the first attempt to establish a republic in China that managed to successfully oust the previous government. Today, the Xinhai Revolution is commemorated in Taiwan as Double Ten Day (Chinese: 雙十節). In mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau the same day is usually celebrated as the Anniversary of the Xinhai Revolution. Many overseas Chinese also celebrate the anniversary, termed either "Double Ten Day" or "Anniversary of the Xinhai Revolution", and events are usually held in Chinatowns across the world. |

this thread has no historical reference whatsoever
TS, when you say "Chinese" i includes, the han and the manchu and etc, so your terminology is wrong. the chinese are made out of 80% Han chinese, its like in india there are different types of indians, the tamils, the hindis; and difference caste, well the chinese have different types of people as well who speak different languages and have difference cultures. but they are hadly as bad as the caste system that india still practices today. i think hate is a wrong word, maybe after the ming dynasty there were people who didnt like the Qing, but the Qing dynasty did have one or two of the best emperors China has ever had. but of course in the end, a power hungry queen, a puppet emperor and corruption ended the dynasty. there are hardly any manchus nowadays. good luck hating them. |

1 of the reason why han doesnt like manchurians is because they literally gave china away to foreign countries and also open the doors for the 8 foreign countries to attack china

QUOTE(simsim @ May 11 2010, 05:15 PM) this thread has no historical reference whatsoever whn i say chinese, i mean han+manchu who lost identity, coz manchu still say they are manchuTS, when you say "Chinese" i includes, the han and the manchu and etc, so your terminology is wrong. the chinese are made out of 80% Han chinese, its like in india there are different types of indians, the tamils, the hindis; and difference caste, well the chinese have different types of people as well who speak different languages and have difference cultures. but they are hadly as bad as the caste system that india still practices today. i think hate is a wrong word, maybe after the ming dynasty there were people who didnt like the Qing, but the Qing dynasty did have one or two of the best emperors China has ever had. but of course in the end, a power hungry queen, a puppet emperor and corruption ended the dynasty. there are hardly any manchus nowadays. good luck hating them. |

ok i may be wrong, mandarin is china's common language, and it is not created by manchurians, it is created by qin shi huangdi(dunno how to spell) so that the unified china have a common language that everyone can use to talk to each other. QUOTE(The Hardest Thing In The World @ May 11 2010, 05:07 PM) The Manchu people (Manchu: Manjui gisun.svg Manju; simplified Chinese: 满族; traditional Chinese: 滿族; pinyin: Mǎnzú, Mongolian: Манж, Russian: Маньчжуры; Fuzhou dialect: 旗下囝 Kì-hâ-giāng (IPA: [ki˨˩ a˥˧ iaŋ˧]) are a Tungusic people who originated in Manchuria (today's northeastern China). During their rise in the seventeenth century, with the help of the Ming dynasty rebels (such as general Wu Sangui), they came to power in China and founded the Qing Dynasty, which ruled China until the Xinhai Revolution of 1911, which established a republican government in its place. Good info. See the difference between Malaysia and China? China helps and gives preferential treatment to the minorities. Malaysia helps the majority to suck on the minority...and then declare them as 'pendatang'.The Manchu ethnicity has largely been assimilated with the Han Chinese. The number of Chinese today with some Manchu ancestry is quite large,[4] and the adoption of favorable policies towards ethnic minorities (such as preferential university admission, government employment opportunities and exemption from the one child policy) has encouraged some people with mixed Han and Manchu ancestry to re-identify themselves as Manchu. japanese are actually chinese ppl, when the first emperor, Shi Huang Di, instructed his officer to look for the Elixir of Immortality, the officer requested to fill his ship with 500 girls and 500 boys. Then he lari with the 500 boys and girls to Japan and settled there. Then they lived there and mingle with the locals there and become Japanese.
I think that goes the same with Korea too, if not mistaken |

So, a thread about racist yellow people is acceptable, but a thread about racist Malaz isn't?

LOL at this thread.
First, Chinese does not hate Manchurian. Manchurian is included in the list as one of the 56 ethnics group of PRC which makes them Chinese. I dunno where you get the idea that Chinese hate Manchurian, probably from Wong Fei Hung movies. Those were the days when the Manchu was a corrupted government. They hate the corrupted Manchu goverment not the Manchu people. Second, Mandarin is not Manchu language. It is Northern China dialect but was chosen as an official language among other dialects because the capital of China back then and until now is in Beijing. FYI "Bei" means North and "Jing" means city which literally means Northern City. The Manchurian adopted the Han Chinese custom and culture when they invaded and takes over the throne. Hope that gives you some ideas and please go to wikipedia for further readings. Some of you here mention that Shi Huang Di from Qin Dynasty speaks Mandarin. Thats wrong, he created Chinese characters and not Mandarin language. |

QUOTE(Wanderlust_08 @ May 12 2010, 06:06 AM) LOL at this thread. If you read the chinese history in great depths you'll realise Manchurians were great leaders, for 3 consecutive generations ( kang xi, yong zheng, qian loong) First, Chinese does not hate Manchurian. Manchurian is included in the list as one of the 56 ethnics group of PRC which makes them Chinese. I dunno where you get the idea that Chinese hate Manchurian, probably from Wong Fei Hung movies. Hope that gives you some ideas and please go to wikipedia for further readings. Some of you here mention that Shi Huang Di from Qin Dynasty speaks Mandarin. Thats wrong, he created Chinese characters and not Mandarin language. Peace and harmony were achieved throughout those centuries. The problem lies with the chinese who discriminated ethical groups a.k.a. the Manchu government as they 'stole' their motherland. And FYI, the origin of triads dates back to that era (all those TianDiHui...etc) |

All citizen of China is Chinese la, as all citizen of Malaysia is Malaysian. When you fill up forms do you write Malaysian Malay or Malaysian Chinese in nationality? Unless they ask for race. Same goes to the Chinese, there are Han Chinese, Manchu Chinese etc etc. Manchu is Northeastern and not all people from the North speak similar dialect take for example Han Chinese who lived in the South. There are Cantonese, Hakka, Hokkien, Teochew etc etc. Even Hangzhou/Suzhou and Shanghai being geographically so close but have their own dialect. Mandarin is spoken mainly in Beijing and was introduced as official language of China probably since the Ming Dynasty because it was during the Ming Dynasty that the capital of China was moved from Nanjing to Beijing. To C-Note, I agree that there are many good emperor during the Qing Dynasty, other than Kangxi, Yongzheng and Qianloong, I think u forgot to mention Guangxu Emperor. He is a man with wisdom and could be a good leader. Read more about Guangxu in wikipedia. The Qing Dynasty becomes weak and corrupted was because of influence from the Empress Dowager. She refuses modernizing and industrial reforms. Peace and harmony were achieved during Tang Dynasty and not Qing Dynasty. Tang Dynasty is the golden age of Chinese civilization and they welcomed foreign cultures with open arms with no discrimination against oher nations and ethnic groups. It was during that time trades by land and sea with other nations was established. Silk Road connected China with other nations like India, Middle East, Persian etc etc. Relationships with Korea, Japan and Vietnam were good. While Qing Dynasty is full of corrupted officials and a conservative small minded Empress Dowager. I guess thats why the Chinese wants to restore the Han government. |

QUOTE(PVCpipe @ May 11 2010, 05:31 PM) no u dum, u think its easy to 'create' new language... mandarin is manchu language... manchu oso have many language.... thats y they sounds diff than hakka, canto hi pvcpipe ...mandarin is really not created by manchu. Manchu have their own language which is totally different than Han's.The name mandarin come from is because that time British visit China, and Manchu ppl speak in Han's language, so the British people thought Han's language is Manchu's language and they called it 'Mandarin'. It's a misunderstanding actually. Manchu is one of foreign country colonial super fail story. Manchu have their own language and culture. After they take over China for a few thousand years, they have been totally influence by Han's and lost their culture and language totally. Now it's impossible to find a pure Manchu or pure Han as they have been mixed kao kao. |

TS still dun get it, Mandarin wasn't created by the Manchus!!! Manchus have their own dialects. For instance, Manchus claim that they are from the Aisin Goro clan, aisin goro is their own dialect, and when translated to mandarin, Aisin= jin = gold, goro= clan.

but by that time the fall of Qing, isn't Han and Machu semue dah campor either in hair style and also language spoken ? then how can they differentiate? [/q During the Qing dynasty, Manchu and Han must cut their hair, thats y all of them have a pigtail at the back. Manchu's language is totally different from Han. One other difference that u can differentiate them is their eyes. Manchu's eye are normally small. Y they got special hak? This is because they are ethnic group. Every ethnic group in China have a special privilege. |

Notice that the word/name of the state HARBIN in northeastern china doesnt sound vry CHINESE? cuz Harbin was once a state of the country Manchuria. Manchuria, in Japanese is Manchukuo and it was a puppet state of Japan back then. Manchuria is located at northeastern china which is also southeastern of russia. After the war, russia claimed the top half of Manchuria and china claimed the bottom half of it therefore now you dun see Manchuria on the world map anymore.

No. what you heard is totally wrong. Chinese dun hate manchu people at all. The Republic of China consists of 56 different races. Where Manchu is one of them only. In the past 1600 something... they got war. Then Manchu people ruling China. Now already 21st century, year 2010. So, what is heard is totally not right for the current China. There are still Manchus in China actually but Han outnumbered them. The reason is of Qing dynasty lasts for 300+ years is that the good governance until the last few years where the governance started to corrupt and that's the good chance for Han's to rebel.

QUOTE(PVCpipe @ May 11 2010, 05:14 PM) QUOTE(PVCpipe @ May 12 2010, 10:28 AM) they said they must restore the han power, something like that WTF LOLyes, they are chinese as the citizen of china... but they still manchu, uyghur people is china citizen, but y people dont call them chinese? hmm mandarin is manchu language actually.... north of china is manchu people area... han lived in the south east of china... I know your source of info. Its wrong. Manchurians have their own language, look it up. Here is a quote that explains abit on northern chinese language and why mandarin is not manchu language. "Well, I do agree that Mandarin is simply the modern descendant of a Northern Chinese linguistic koine that was influenced by Altaic languages- notably Mongolic, Turkic, and Tungusic languages. Since Northern China is mostly plains, 1) Nomadic conquerors can easily conquer the plains, since they rode horses. 2) Less linguistic diversity contributed to a Northern Chinese koine, unlike in Southern China, where there are geographical barriers. 3) In the issue of nomadic conquerors resisting sinification, this policy has failed. The Jurchens established Jurchen-language schools, but with limited success. Eventually the nomadic rulers either left or were assimilated. The Qing dynasty was known for imposing the mandarin language on all its subjects, but with limited success in southern China, where Mandarin didn't need to be used." Also, I don't know where you get the whole Chinese hating Manchu thing from. Maybe back then there was some hatred from certain groups but now Manchurians are considered Chinese, theres no hatred anymore. A few people have explained the whole Manchu language vs Mandarin but you seem to ignore it lol. If you speak Mandarin and other Chinese dialects, you can see the similarities between them, they're not like Manchu language. Like, Hello in Mandarin is Ni Hao, in Cantonese its Nei Hou, in Manchu its Ei or something. |

Some Emishi tribes opposed and resisted the rule of the Japanese Emperors during the late Nara and early Heian periods (7th–10th centuries AD). More recently, scholars believe that they were natives of northern Honshu who were descendants of those who produced the Jōmon culture. They are thought to have been related to the Ainu. The separate ethnic status of the Emishi is not in doubt, based on a separate language from Japanese that scholars have not been able to reconstruct, but can be inferred from the use of interpreters who were needed to communicate between the Japanese and the Emishi, and the many Ainoid place names left in the Tōhoku. The famous Emishi generals who fought in the Thirty-Eight Years' War (AD 774 to 811), Moro and Aterui, have non-Japanese names as well. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Yamato (Japanese People) Origin from Baekje / Goguryeo / Silla Of Korea Some of the famous (not all) clans in Feudal Japan. QUOTE(ayamkambing @ Aug 23 2010, 12:22 AM) More than 2000 years ago, chinese already has agricultural invention like ploughing the fields with a bull, vertical lined planting of seeds to allow better yield and prevent birds from eating the seeds while europeans were still scattering seeds by hand with little yield. Weaponry too, with crossbows and magazine pack similar to machine guns. The crossbow originated from my ancestor, the "Hun" or "XiongNu" and the ancient Han Chinese copied from them when they had to battle with those nomads during the Qin and Han dynasty. |

QUOTE(pml_318 @ Aug 23 2010, 01:24 PM) Yeah that was true. In fact, the slogan voiced out by Dr Sun Yat Sen to topple the Qing monarchy is: " Manchus are barbarian, restore the Han". Something like this, but not exact word by word. The Manchus were sinocized and that save them, otherwise, the presence of hatred between Manchu and Han did exist. |

QUOTE(Fadly @ Aug 23 2010, 08:49 AM) I believe Zheng He is from Ming Dynasty, a precursor to Qing Dynasty. He's a Muslim Eunuch. Though there's rumour that the first Ming Emperor is a Muslim, but in general, Ming Dynasty is purely Chinese. There was a rumor which said that Zhu Yuan Zhang, the funder of Ming Dynasty was a Muslim of Hui descent. However, this cannot be verified and unfounded claim. The fact was that his famous generals that Hu Dahai, Mu Ying, Lan Yu, Feng Sheng and Ding Dexing. were Muslims. |

It's from the dialect of Han Chinese that resided in the Manchu territory of Liao Ning. Since they were the majority there outnumbering the Manchus, the Manchus adopted this language and publicized into the whole of its territory. The Manchu language might have some commonality with Mongolian and even Turkic. Even the earliest Manchu name such as Nurhaci Abahai, Dorgon did not have any Chinese influence. Later, they became sinocized. |

QUOTE(PVCpipe @ Aug 23 2010, 02:29 PM) Actually, the present border of People's Republic of China was carved by the Qing Manchu dynasty. The original name for the dynasty was Amaga Aisin Gurun. See, it's not even sound Mandarin at all. They changed the name later. The Manchus were in fact quite ruthless. They instituted the "Ponytail Law" that compelled all the Han Chinese to shave their forehead and keep a ponytail behind. Those who resisted were killed. That's because hair is considered as sacred by the Han Chinese and the Manchus tried downgrade them. The Manchus were also responsible for the massacre of Oirat Mongols in XinJiang area and virtually eliminated all of them. |

And thinking that civilized people allways at the forefront of the technological edge is also wrong. I never said they were stupid. I only mentioned about not being civilized enough. QUOTE A theory at the brink of a total rejection. As we learn more of human body, it's is increasingly diffcult to fit a chimps in the annals of human evolution. Darwin are ancients history, just like Ptolemy wo said the earth is the centre of the universe. As you learn more about science and discoveries, the Creation theory crumbles as you have no evidence whatsovever of anything more stupid than a being called gawd! Darwin isn't ancient. Science is progressive. Fossils proved creation wrong. Heck, you can't even prove there's a god! and which one! |

QUOTE(kenmirzz @ Aug 23 2010, 03:50 PM) I think it's a misunderstanding. Darwin never said that human descended from Chimps. This is creationists' effort to attack a strawman. Darwin merely theorized that Human and Chimpanzee may had shared similar ancestor. He never believe in chimpanzee evolved to become human. You're quite smart for a mongol. This is a misunderstanding. I'm very surprised. |

QUOTE Why Indon hate Malay? Bit off topic, but i believe the Batik Issue, Rasa Sayange issue, the BENDERA and lately the detention of Malaysian fishermans by Indonesian authority inside Malaysian waters, is a sign of Indonesian Inferiority complex. somehow they try to overcompensate. QUOTE(ayamkambing @ Aug 24 2010, 10:47 AM) You don't realize how stupid you sounded when you mentioned anatomy differences? The Manchus you posted had already heavily sinocized. Of course look a bit similar with any typical Han. And yes, they don't look completely identical, despite your unclear black and white photos comparison. The Manchu guy possesses high cheek bone and probably if the picture is a colored one, he might have some rosy red on his cheek, which will clearly be absence in a typical Han's feature, especially SOUTHERN HAN. Both pic of two people still look "chinese" regardless. That's because the so called have Altaic nomad blood in them. Somewhere along the line of their ancestor, they mixed with either Manchus or other nomadic people. Do not forget that many of the Northern dynasties were non-Han Chinese, such as Liao, Jin, Northern Wei, Yuan, etc. |
