QUOTE(Aloong @ Jun 11 2010, 11:05 AM)
I actually i do agree that riding bike is relatively more dangerous than cars and mrt, in logical sense.  In chinese saying, "steel cover skin" is safer than skin cover steel".

I was riding bike for 4yrs in KL during college and during my first few yrs working. Sometimes up to one hour from KL -Klang - KL everyday, due to auditng works. I still remember carrying 3 bags (for laptops, lugagge and files) to office, to join colleauges for an outstation job. Dangerous, but depends on luck. If unlucky u die will sleepin/eating, if lucky u'll live even being hit and by car and goin under it.

So u got to weight the pros and cons, the advantage of faster than MRT/cheaper than cars/more freedom/ as opposed to dangerous. I hot SG shd be safer? correct me if im wrong, Isit a lot of accident?
*
When I started working in Singapore last year, 1 thing I don't like the most is squeezing in MRT/Bus and ~50-60 mins commuting hours. After few weeks of feeling no quality of life (sorry no offense), I decided to get a bike and ride it until now (downgraded after coming to SG haha... previously having a car in KL).

Bike cost is cheap but not cheaper than MRT/Bus. Second hand Honda Wave ~2.5k. Parking at HDB ~15 per month. Petro ~8 per week. Many places has free bike parking. http://www.sgwiki.com/wiki/Motorcycle_Parking
The main motivation is door to door commuting, less afraid of traffic jam and save lots of time. Using bike, it takes just ~20mins to me. 1 more advantage of bike is easier to get a cheap rent since you don't need to find a room which near to MRT.

Ridding bike to me is more about whether a person willing to risk the safety rather than whether a person is rich or not. I saw many above average people ridding good bike in Singapore and many below average people dare not to ride a bike. Anyway, thanks to the fact that not many people willing to ride bike lest the road will be crowded with bikes and parking will be more difficult to find.

I agree on the pros and cons above. Yes, SG is safer than KL. Here has better road, better cars and good security (I never double lock my bike in SG. If I do this in MY, it will be gone in 5 mins). Anyway, it is skin cover steel. You have to take the risks. Also, beware during midnight, lots of drunk drivers.

That's exactly what a manager-subordinate relationship is. He gets to tell you what to do but you don't get to do the same. He gets privileges, rewards and exceptions that you don't. They get better offices, more salary and benefits (obviously), first tibs of anything new, fly business while you fly economy, stay in better hotels or rooms when they travel, hiigher per diems, higher travel & entertainment budgets etc.

If the manager has to follow the same rules and be subject to the same conditions as his subordinates, then where's the motivation to get yourself promoted?

Nearly all people with manager status are hypocrites of the higher order. Most managers like to follow the phrase "do as i say, not what i do" mantra.

You can either prove that what he is doing is wrong or you can follow in this foot steps and become the very thing that you despise, most people who like power will do the latter, reminds me of umnos MO.

Spoken like a true career underling. Confusing the role of a manager with that of a parent or moral role model.

Even in the most "lead by example" organisations like the army, where captains and generals have to possess the hierarchical and moral authority to send men into combat - the leaders still do not have to work under the same circumstances as their subordinates.

Oh... gaming eh? Mobile BB might not be good enough for that if you don't go for the premium packages.

Fixed line BB... dunno? I only have Starhub Maxonline under the pay per use scheme. Never used the normal monthly subscription service, nor Singtel fixed line BB.

i'm using the Singtel mio with fixed line 12mbps package, come together with EPL and home fix line. Connection is good, even during the peak weekends rclxms.gif ... a lot of my colleagues complains about dropping speed for starhub during the weekend
