QUOTE Blizzard isn't in the habit of handing out game release dates until they're good and ready, so when they say StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty will be hitting store shelves worldwide in late July, they damn well mean it. StarCraft II is possibly the most eagerly anticipated real-time strategy game in the history of the genre, and now that anticipation has a white-hot target - July 27, 2010. That's when the game will start hitting retail stores around the world, including the United States, Canada, Europe, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand, Russia, Mexico, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines, and the regions of Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau. Is that a wide enough release for you? "We've been looking forward to revisiting the StarCraft universe for many years, and we're excited that the time for that is almost here," said Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment. "Thanks to our beta testers, we're making great progress on the final stages of development, and we'll be ready to welcome players all over the world to StarCraft II and the new Battle.net in just a few months." You might want to start lining up outside your nearest retailer now. Source: Kotaku Worldwide launch at the same time, that probably means some areas are gonna get the game earlier. |

Dunno about what other people think, but it seems like Battlenet isnt ready yet, from the looks of it.
Even simple things like changing from euro to us servers are still not in game. The map editor is great, though. |

I give up, turning down the details doesn't help the jerkiness.
Changing resolution doesn't help. Check in game FPS shows around 78-80 fps. Using new Nvidia doesn't help. Damn, I am not gonna redownload the whole shit. f*** it. |

To the folks asking for 4 or 5 Mbits line in Malaysia: this is not the issue
You could have a 25Mbits line and still get crap online experience, not like online games use that much bandwidth anyway Bandwidth and latency are only slightly related with each other Having X Mbts is not what is really important, it's having a GOOD connection with reliable and low ping international hops that is important. From what I know Tmnet has some very crap deal for international routing which are the main causes of lags from my experience of playing Wow on US servers. |

local price for standard seems to be out. SMM thugs at it again. QUOTE UPDATE: FatCatLim of GameAxis Malaysia has made contact with Malaysia’s Blizzard distributor - Sendi Mutiara Multimedia - in order to find out the price of the game. It is now stands at RM 248 for normal edition. Collector’s Edition status are still unknown. RM248? O_O |

I forgot how the original Starcraft is like. So the pendrive with the original Starcraft could refresh my memory. It's a game that would last a few years...granted it will come in a trilogy. So, it should be worth it.

QUOTE(talexeh @ May 5 2010, 10:47 AM) It's normal. If the download is going to slow or taking too long, the downloader / patcher will automatically assume that you're behind firewall. For these who played WoW before, is it using the same Blizzard Downloader tool for getting patches and co?I never managed to get a "green" connection with that thing, even when able to run other torrent stuff perfectly fine on the side. Sucks if they use this for the full game, that thing is good for US/EU but pretty crap for the rest of us |

Sucks if they use this for the full game, that thing is good for US/EU but pretty crap for the rest of us 1. Warcraft 3 and Frozen Throne Download for Warcraft 3 and Frozen Throne is ok. Around 600 to 700mb each. In game patching is quite fast. 2. Starcraft 2 Beta Download for Starcraft 2 Beta (didn't do that for the entire thing so not sure) Patching is horrible. Takes forever to download (and you can't tell how much is done save for that blue bar that sometimes looks like it's moving because there's no indication of ??MB downloaded nor how big is the patch, even Games For Windows Client has that) And after each patch, you gotta restart the game and download the next patch. So you gotta keep tabs when each patch is actually done downloading and done applying to the game. |

QUOTE(evofantasy @ May 5 2010, 11:11 AM) pretty much almost the same... Meh, okey, I tried from few places around Bandar Utama though, never really managed to get it work fine (it usually went back to the HTTP Download which takes forever).but it took me pretty fast to patch up with it after some initial hiccup... I ended up downloading the patches from external websites if it was more than few tens of Mbs. I did forward ports and all too. See how it goes on retail then |

Well,as people always say, Blizzard is awesome and everything they do is great.and really, theres always the manual patchers that other people have been using/copying and they have posted their successes in the sc2 thread too. could've always used those The way Blizzard patch is already obsolete and terrible, as most companies have changed to different method of patching where the client compares the local files and the files on server. Then, download only the files needed so the the local files is the same as the server. Blizzard have so much resource and they cant do it. Worse, there is not even a cumulative patch for the first few patches for the Beta as you have to download patch 1 to 10 one by one. If they are so great, why is the patching is so painful and slow? Even RA3 Beta have cumulative patches for each patch released. I couldnt find any thread that have patch 9 which is the huge patch. The small ones are still ok. |

Even RA3 Beta have cumulative patches for each patch released. I couldnt find any thread that have patch 9 which is the huge patch. The small ones are still ok. it does resume the patch from where u stopped... and it can detect the manual patches... http://maged.lordaeron.org/sc2/ for manual patches |

QUOTE(Deimos Tel`Arin @ May 5 2010, 02:07 PM) I really dont see it as an excuse for not updating the software as the game has been in development for 5 years.SC2 definitely needs a longer Beta,at least 3 months more,IMO. Battlenet doesnt seem as great as it was advertised. |

QUOTE(Cheesenium @ May 5 2010, 02:05 PM) Well,as people always say, Blizzard is awesome and everything they do is great. what evo already said, it downloads what it needs, and thats that. blizz just havent got to using one cumulative singular patch just to get v1's to say, v10 like they've ALWAYS done for diablo1-2, war1-3, WoW, sc1 for some reason and im sure they are prolly testing (oh, this is still the beta, right?)something out on the patching system. you'd think that it wouldnt raise questions to do something different (or in your viewpoint, obsolete and outright terrible) when they've already done what you have describe all the time for all their games. The way Blizzard patch is already obsolete and terrible, as most companies have changed to different method of patching where the client compares the local files and the files on server. Then, download only the files needed so the the local files is the same as the server. Blizzard have so much resource and they cant do it. They added the gigantic map editor + new maps which resulted in a larger patch, what so bad with letting it patch a little bit longer.

It's not the size but the speed of the download.
I gonna let the installer run again in an older PC and see what happens. Then I gotta test it, hopefully the experience won't be as bad as on my new PC. |

The patch 9 took quite a long time because the map editor comes with it; which is 480MB large for the editor alone iinm, while total size of patch 1-8 is only about 89MB

That's just their current classifying method for battlenet account, dun need to VPN an ID in US, it will also be re-directed and reclassified to .KR for the moment. We still get to play either US servers, or Korea servers, will still be accessible until a later stage. Hopefully a few more Asia region servers Blizzard open up, the differing language speaking gamers will know what to do. Only if it makes economical sense to have a server in Malaysia-Singapore for Oceanic-SEA, the start up, internet infrastructure (on rental... ) and maintenance will dwarf our budget, for just a 'gaming' reason politicians can only see... Inter-Regional Pro-Gaming at 100ms latency perhaps... but not worldwide (not possible to be equally fair) with servers hosted at the other far end). |

Im not sure which race to go with, probably Random for now. Terran feels harder in SC2 than SC1. |

I do feel Protoss is the right race for me,as i won 2 out of 2 games with them,so far, while i lost most of my games with Zerg and Terran. |

StarCraft 2 Facebook Integration Warps In
QUOTE StarCraft II developer Blizzard has announced that its much-anticipated real-time strategy sequel will boast intergration with the social networking site Facebook. What is described as "the first step in the integration" will allow players to quickly 'friend' their Facebook chums on the game's Battle.net matchmaking service. It's yet unclear what horrors might follow later--hopefully nothing like the scene envisioned below. "We're pleased to be working with Facebook to integrate their platform with Battle.net to enhance the social-entertainment experience for our players," said Blizzard COO Paul Sams. "This new functionality will make it easier than ever to connect with friends on Battle.net and play StarCraft II and future Blizzard Entertainment games together." Facebook functionality will be rolled out to the ongoing closed beta test "in the near future." StarCraft II is scheduled for a worldwide PC release on July 27, at long last. http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/63645 |

Argh... f*cked up my last placement match due to messy gameplay. Was winning but ended up giving the match away to a few mutas.
I know I'm not gonna stay at those high league for long but really, when the mistakes are so huge & stupid, I really deserve a big slap across the room. /rant |

Hi guys,
The Multiplayer mode - how does it work? Do the players all connect to Battlenet server in USA like WOW system , or Battlenet serves as a point for initial verification like the Wacraft 3 system? for me, If it is like the Wow system, I see no point of buying this game due to lag. If it is like the Warcraft 3 system, then yes. |

Hi Guys,
I've had a beta key for a couple of days now. However I haven't even manage to start a single game yet. Right now I've installed the game, logged into my account, and managed to get to the multiplayer screen. Problem is: - I've tried to click on 'find a game' under Quick Match, or 'join game' under Custom Games. - It then starts downloading Item 1 of 5, and always gets stuck at around 75%. I believe it is an issue with Streamyx and battle.net (really sux though). But I would just like to know: 1. What is it trying to download? And are there other ways to download whatever it's trying to download? I'm sure http links work better for me. 2. What port does SC2 use? (I'm not sure if this matters) Please help, thank you. >< |

We will be releasing a service update shorty. If you are unable to log into the system, it means the upgrade process has begun. We're working to limit the downtime, so please try again soon!

Thanks, i think i have to play more custom game or wait for retail to practise with AI before i play them on Quick Match.actually it would depend on ur opponent's race and BO... vs zerg = helion/thor vs toss = MMM vs terran = banshee Added on May 7, 2010, 11:43 am much more of a support unit than a dps unit... and i think i'm the only guy that research hallucination lol roach is not powerful, just cost effective to spam and die >.< I have been losing all of my Zerg and Terran games, but i won all Protoss games with early Zealot + Stalker, then to Immortal/Colossus/ Void Ray. Feel like trying Sentry and wtf them. I think im having problem managing a zerg and terran base. I cant get enough units or tech fast enough with Zerg, while with Terran, i just dont really know what to do. I dont want to get demoted to the novice ladder with Random. I think Hallucination is a good ability.
Seen lots of VoD and replays where that ability is pretty game changing. |

QUOTE(talexeh @ May 8 2010, 03:30 AM) If you read the article, you should realize by now that it's an optional purchase type. i did read it correctly.QUOTE Starcraft 2 offering subscription plans in Latin America, Asia and Russia A press release detailing plans for localization in Latin American Spanish for Mexico, Argentina, Brazil and Chile covers the subscription model. By picking up the title for $299 MXN / $119 ARS / $13,900 CLP -- about $30 USD -- gamers will be given access to the single-player and multiplayer portions of the game for 60 days. Once that period ends, they can re-up their subscription for a fee (which hasn't been disclosed yet). The other option is to download the game directly from Blizzard for a one-time fee of $59.99 USD, granting permanent access to the title. I'm from Malaysia, so i'm think it include in Asia as well, although the game is cheaper ($30 USD) but for 60 days only. Another option is US version which location on half way around the planet, i'm pretty sure the latency will be high compare to Asia server. Correct me if i'm wrong. QUOTE Q. Will we be able to play with our friends on other continents like we could in StarCraft's Battle.net? A. Currently we do not have plans to integrate friends between regions for launch. In the long run that's definitely something we'll be looking at. This post has been edited by xeonsam: May 8 2010, 04:16 AM |

QUOTE(xeonsam @ May 8 2010, 03:47 AM) i did read it correctly. The article didn't specifically mention that the full version is a US version. While I may not be 100% accurate, the current understanding is that Blizz will implement a new server in the SEA region & if they're going to force the subscription method to the whole of Asia, it will include Korea as well, which I sincerely believe will be a stupid decision if Blizz were to come to that point.I'm from Malaysia, so i'm think it include in Asia as well, although the game is cheaper ($30 USD) but for 60 days only. Another option is US version which location on half way around the planet, i'm pretty sure the latency will be high compare to Asia server. Correct me if i'm wrong. There're too many ambiguity at the moment, such as region lock issue (whether they lock you via IP or CD key) & it's not very wise to make our conclusion as of now. Just enjoy the beta as much as you can & while you can. This post has been edited by talexeh: May 8 2010, 05:00 AM |

Optional purchase my ass, the full unlimited version only available on online, not in the stores.30USD for 60 days isnt cheap at all. No matter how much the extension will cost, in the end the game will still cost more than the unlimited retail version in the long run. Looks like they want to milk them instead. Put a much lower price at release to make them addicted to the game, then, add a "subscription" fess for them to keep playing. They are only considering, even the high ping problem has been experienced by gamers in this region for years. These people are damn efficient. Yea, facebook integration is much more important than region free for servers. |

publishers, developers are greedy.
they want passive income, not active income. one time off retail box sales = active income monthly subscription = passive income |

QUOTE(Deimos Tel`Arin @ May 8 2010, 11:11 AM) publishers, developers are greedy. No doubt that they should be greedy, as gaming isnt charity, but it's a multimillion dollar industry. The question is, how much greedy that they want to be?they want passive income, not active income. one time off retail box sales = active income monthly subscription = passive income I just have a bad feeling that SC2 will never be as popular as SC1, considering how Blizzard treating the game now. |

QUOTE(Cheesenium @ May 8 2010, 10:10 AM) Optional purchase my ass, the full unlimited version only available on online, not in the stores. LOL, you must have mistaken me as another Blizz fanboy. I love games, but not the companies who made them. Anyway, the difference between you & me are just our perspectives & where we're standing. You look at the current initiatives as a milking scheme while I see it as an alternatives to allow casual gamers try the game without having to pay the full price.30USD for 60 days isnt cheap at all. While Blizz has yet to go official on this new plan of theirs, I don't see anything weird since people have been willing to fork out $$$ for the WoW subscriptions for the past years. They're just applying an optional purchase method that mimics how gamers pay for their WoW. Yes, 30USD is not cheap but if they can make the monthly subscription fees low enough, I really do see it as an advantage, especially to a guy who earns too little to pay for the full 60USD at one go. Now, don't tell me if you're poor, you shouldn't be playing SC2. |

Now, don't tell me if you're poor, you shouldn't be playing SC2. There are other alternatives like other companies have done where they release localised version of the game so that the price of the game is cheaper for the local people. This has been done for years, and i know Indian region locked Valve games are cheap as chips. Also, by doing so, people in that region can still get the game on lower price which makes a "subscription" looks more like a milking scheme. Besides, most RTS gamers dont really bother with MMOs in general, as they are more used to retail boxes. This seem to be more out of the norm with the subcription system for a RTS that is not labelled as a MMO, IMO. 30USD for 60 days isnt cheap,IMO, especially considering the countries they are aiming for. While the alternative to get the no subscription system is buying via Blizzard store, it's a bit unfair. Even here, there are a lot of people dont have CC to buy games online from Steam. On the other hand, the 30 USD version with 60 days limitation is great for those who dont bother about MP at all, but only want to play SP campaign, though. Seriously, how many of us here only want SC2 for SP only? The problem here is Activision is trying to milk everything. There could be a chance that SC2 might be bastardised like CoD again which i dont want to see it happen. This post has been edited by Cheesenium: May 8 2010, 12:57 PM |

What i heard was, when u buy the retail version, the game already comes with free 60 days. By then, even the SP shud be finished. U shud ask urself, are u buying the game for the SP only ... or for the MP.

I doubt that Malaysia is gonna get the 60 days limited edition for RM248.
It's was too ridiculous for that price. You can almost buy 2 latest retail games with that. |

Well by referring to most Malaysian gamer's mentality, who do you think will only buy an Original Starcraft just for the single player campaign. The main reason I'm buying it is because of one time payment battle.net MP experience but if they force us to pay monthly fee, I might as well download starcrack and play. Why do they spend years of balancing the game if they want to lose a chunk of their players to only single player? |

Asia might get the time limited version too. QUOTE Plans for a subscription-based StarCraft 2 are in the works for Latin America, Asia and Russia. While US gamers will only pay a one-time fee to start harvesting Vespene Gas on July 27, players abroad will be offered two different ways to play: subscription or an all-access fee. A press release detailing plans for localization in Latin American Spanish for Mexico, Argentina, Brazil and Chile covers the subscription model. During Activision's annual investors call yesterday, Blizzard CEO Mike Morhaime confirmed that Blizzard would pursue a similar pricing structure for Asian and Russian territories. Vikings are very good counter to Collos because of their range. Usually you are able to kill the collossus without any problems at all. Broodlords just got nerfed a little but it still owns ground unit AI

There are some confusion.anyway, anyone have an extra beta to give away? i guess i must be one of the unlucky, no luck from opt in nor all others give away contest SMM first announced that SC2 will cost RM248 in Malaysia. Then, 1-2 days ago, Blizzard announced 3 more regions, including Asia will be using the subscription system. There are no pricing for Asia yet. Just prepare for the worst. |

QUOTE(Moonflown @ May 8 2010, 03:20 PM) Vikings are very good counter to Collos because of their range. Usually you are able to kill the collossus without any problems at all. Broodlords just got nerfed a little but it still owns ground unit AI Actually the reason Vikings are considered the BEST counter (for Terran) as opposed to Siege Tanks are because Colossi are vulnerable to air attack but cannot attack air units.Add me as well BlueMoon.flow |

Okay,this is weird,as Joystiq says it's 60 days, but Gamesutra says it's 6 months.
Just quoting a section of the article. QUOTE Blizzard is offering fully localized versions of the PC real-time strategy game for the South American countries for a suggested retail price of around $25-$30USD. That's about half of what it costs for the standard U.S. version, which Blizzard said would cost $59.99. SourceThe catch is that gamers in emerging markets who pay for the cheaper version of the game can only play StarCraft II single and multiplayer for six months, through Blizzard's revamped Battle.net online platform. After that six months, players that opted for the cheaper version of the game will have the option to pay additional 30- or 60-day subscription fees to play the game. Blizzard said it will announce specifics on recurring fees at a later date. I would say that is quite decent. 30USD for 6 months seems ok to me, if you are those people who is gonna play the game for only like first few months and move on to other games. Still, Unlimited version for me,as i'll definitely gonna play a lot till CoH 2 or something. |

@Cheese
Don't worry. Just gonna have fun trashing people or being trashed. I would suggest we use some kind of networking software to communicate with each other since we usually do not toggle B.net on. I'm using Raptr. |

Starcraft 2 Does Shooter too

Added on May 8, 2010, 1:43 pm I dont know why they want to do it like this, but this isnt a reasonable at all. I'll definitely wont be getting it if they charge monthly fees on it. Not particularly exact wrong counter. Zealot rush and roaches ae pretty good counters. Just that they were on the high group and no air scout. Not to say they have 3 upgrades for both attack and armor.
HDH left Protoss and Zerg as well as random. |

Guys, any of you know how to safely terminate the game without having to force shutdown my computer? Even Ctrl+Alt+Del doesn't work. Based on the mouse cursor, I can see that I'm controlling my Desktop (mouse cursor will change to normal Windows arrow if it happen to be on top open windows) but the background is still stuck with the Hyperion.

QUOTE(Moonflown @ May 9 2010, 07:35 PM) I'm sure those who can't participate in beta are willing to endure the pain of exiting the client. Err... I don't seem to recall me QQ'ing about the exit bug. Was just asking around if there's any way to quit without having the need to reboot the whole computer.Bare with it and cherish what you got. Sigh, is asking for advice a crime now? |

I didn't say it was a crime. It's sort of like a known issue similar to the graphic problem. I'm just saying if none of those tricks work then just bare with it till they fix it.

QUOTE(Cheesenium @ May 9 2010, 07:40 PM) Well,i know some cant exit the beta, unless you restart your whole com. gj blowing this out of proportionIt's a bit sloppy on Blizzard's side for something like this to happen. QUOTE [FIX] StarCraft 2 freeze/lag fix Source: http://aftabsultan.com/?p=50by sultanaf on Apr.17, 2010, under Windows 7, starcraft 2 The Problem: I’ve been playing the long-awaited StarCraft 2 (Beta) recently and it doesn’t disappoint. I am running Windows 7 (64 bit) with an ATI Radeon HD 3400 video card. I ran into some complications while playing the game. Specifically, it would freeze in-game for a while and sometimes long enough for me to be dropped from the game. The Internet? At first I though it was my internet connection which was causing the lag. After some investigation, it turns out it wasn’t the internet connection (the game was also freezing during replays as well). The Video Card? Next I suspected the video card was over heating. I ran a temperature monitor with a CPU monitor while playing the game. It seems that under normal game play, the temperature was around 70 C. Once the game froze, the GPU temperature dropped and the CPU usage spiked to 100%. The CPU? After digging around a little bit, I came across a few threads on people having the same problem. They seemed to have fixed this problem by running the game on a single CPU core instead of the default multi-core setup. Specifically CPU 1 seems to be the magic core. I tried that but with no success. It was time to dig a little deeper. The Solution: The problem lies with Physx. StarCraft 2 comes with a version of Physx but with certain drivers, the latest version is required to run the game smoothly. Physx basically allows the game physics to be CPU powered rather than being powered by the graphics card. it is also referred by some as Software Physics. Make sure you have the latest version of Physx installed. it is required regardless of whether the you have an ATI or nVidia card. This should do it! If you are still having this problem, add -skipopenal -nocpubinding to the Target field of the StarCraft 2 shortcut and try again. Enjoy The above commands somewhat help my problems, jerky animation is almost gone (still a bit left but less frequent now) QUOTE [FIX] Another StarCraft 2 lag fix by sultanaf on Apr.22, 2010, under starcraft 2 Aside from the previous fix I posted, I have another fix for the in-game lag in StarCraft 2. The lag could be caused by the GPU rendering the frames at max speed which might cause the video card to overheat and slow down the game. The following will help by telling StarCraft 2 to limit the behavior: 1. Open My Documents\StarCraft II Beta\variables.txt using Notepad (or any other text editor) 2. Add the following two lines to the file: Frameratecapglue=30 Frameratecap=60 3. Save the txt file and you’re done. The frameratecapglue variable controls menu screens framerates. The frameratecap controls the in-game framerate. I have chosen 60 as I am running this game on a laptop (60 is the max refresh rate for my monitor) but you can choose any number that fits your configuration. Source: http://aftabsultan.com/?p=79 Will try this one later, hopefully the jerkiness and spikes will be all gone after that. |
