I successfully cured my IST of RNS using Azoo Anti-Bacterial liquid medication sold at Ikano (green box). He was very lethargic, always sleeping, bubbling nose, but still eating well. Took about 6wks n 3 bottles to cure him. All well now.

I can verify that State Directors, who are supposed to issue the special permission letter, do not have any clear directives from the Ministry of Natural Resources. So far, they do not know what to do upon receiving applications (format of the letter, etc)

As for the animals, they will be examined before any special permissions are issued (husbandry, conditions, etc). And strictly for private keepers, not traders. What's allowed and what's not allowed eludes me, except the fact that everything that falls under Act 76 and Act 317 won't be issued any letter as they are bound to the age old rules.

Sam, do you have the news clippings/links to said news? I saw the confiscation thingy yesterday but am not aware that Indian Star , Radiated , Angonoka will be confiscated upon declaration NO LICENSE will be issued !!. thanks.

The top part say bla bla about a few ops napping found some bush meat and animals .......etc

Like angel9362 its the bottom part that worries us !!

Towards the last 2 column it says about CITES being form by 175 countries , ....etc and the more common pets includes African grey parrot , Indian Star , Radiated and Madagascar Tortoise (Angonoka or Yniphora ) will be protected under the new said law .
Those with the above mentioned tortoise species will have to surrender them in to avoid violating the law , as for owner of African Grey owner will be allowed to keep after application processed and permit issued !!

Once convicted fine of up to RM 100,000 and 7 years behind bars or both !!

---------------------------------

What happened to the many hundreds of Indian Star that the department say to be sent back to India few years back ??

And did any Orang Utan got returned to us Malaysia that were found smuggled in oversea airport or homes ....etc ??

Since they (illegal animals ) already in Malaysia why cant they (department) just legalised them to their present owner ??

Added on June 12, 2010, 5:29 amYou are not going to save a species from extinction by keeping them away from trade !! You got to understand them , do more studies and try breed them !!

CITES is about regulating the trade .

If I am to do this (as if possible) put a microchip into all declared animals and legalised them as pets even for CITES I aniamls ................. BUT PETS should not be bred for sale or export ........... so as not to complicate matters about CITES f1 or f2 deemed export-able

I may be wrong, but isn't this like having pirated movies at home?

Can these people actually raid our home? Let's say they ring on bell, we go quickly hide the animals, will they turn our whole house upside down, or will they just storm into our home? What rights do they have to do that? They need to get a search permit, get the police, etc etc.

So is the new law really targeting/scaring us or just mainly to traders which is much easier to catch?

according to Article 24 of Act 686 (damn.. so long to type) enforcement officers can ransack our premises without warrant. sounds too extreme, right?
