Do remember there are few types of supplement on sale
-multi vitamin
-pure calcium
-calcium+vit D3
-........
As in harmful ? Which type n harmful in what ways ?

From my own little humble experience it's usually the vitamin part doing the overdosing harm !!

yes right. as i said, calcium OD is almost unheard of.

most new keepers give out too much vitamin. the worst case is combining uvb light with D3 supplement - surefire OD.

( what humble little experience... if your experience is little, ours are miniscule smile.gif )
i heard about that. sorry for the loss sad.gifhaven't tested exoterra's supplement, haven't even checked them out as they are relatively new.

many  keepers swear by repcal.

(note : if your turtles bask alot under sunlight, opt for supplements without D3)

If not mistaken, it's May 26th. But have yet to hear anything. Could be just another "gertak"...which they are very good at. Just my RM0.02 smile.gif

p.s. Sorry to hear about your predicament.

Regards

Maybe my mistake as 26th is a Wed while 28th is the last working day of May (at least in Sabah)

Hi,

i am thinking about buying an angonoka around 4-5 cm. i tried searching the internet but not much infos on care and also habitat. i understand there is some forum in mandarin but i cant read mandarin. hope someone here can guide me. lastly, is angonoka fairly easy compare to star and leopard? thanks
*
Ya easier than both star and leopard !! Maybe because it's worth more and lesser pieces imported each time thus care provided are better maybe ?

"The Angonoka or Ploughshare tortoise is one of the ten most endangered animals in the world. There are fewer than 1000 individuals left, and they are found only in one tiny area of the island nation of Madagascar. The Angonoka's favorite habitat is the coarse grass and scrub trees found near bamboo forests. The Angonoka is found only in the dry forests of the northwestern part of Madagascar." according to http://www.thewildones.org/Animals/angonoka.html

I dun think u can buy it...LOL it's endangered!!

biggrin.gif
*
So as what's quoted everwhere about less than 1000 left in the wild !! If that's the case I think captive specimen(those in captives is wat i meant) will and must be greater than those left in the wild !!
I think SHOULD instead of CAN to be used here ! ( due to their status ) LOL
But they are easily CB just need to cross BIG BIG RED TAPE (which I think a local breeder has given up on )

I wonder whether tortoise can crossbreed or not??..

I mean, Star + Sulcata = Tarcalta??..biggrin.gif

Star n sulcata maybe not max adult size different too much !! Try I star with Burm Star or I elongata with I Fronstenii or red foot with radiated ........ There are life example oversea crossing Leo with sulcata or Angonoka with Radiated !!

anyone who did those will get whacked by conservationists and purists.

hybrids serve no purpose other than personal satisfaction and bragging rights.

(tell that to those darn cateater/bateater breeders )

Tell that to the one who planned the matching of lonesome George the galop tort !! Or the Japs who like weird one of a kind pet !! LOL

Anyone know if someone already successfully applied for Permit to Keep Star Tortoise? I mean for private keepers who bought online.

Based on INTESA, Cuora Amboinensis is in AppendixII also!!
Means I have to apply permit also...??!! Sad  lar..tmrw gonna call to double check.
Looking at the list , it covers a lot of the exotic turtles species sold during last few years. Means a lot of people will be affected.

So, the grace period given may be safe to apply??
Perhilitan could not confirm to me that applicants will be safe..there goes my confidence.

How?
*
If in another "1st world" country during so call grace period applicant n pets will be safe but we are in "3rd word" country in regards to these !!

When you bring something more valuable ie radiated they may see $$$$ n bring out many so call by-law n ..........etc as what most people will likely to encounter on BolehLand when dealing with some department !!! - blur blur , sudden announcement without proper planning leave many loophole for their officers to trap applicants .....etc

Prove me wrong and try and apply for a pair of Radiated tortoise permit and I buy it off you for say rm 3000!!! Or triple that for a Yniphoras'
*permit must be good for breeding

Found something interesting in Adpost today !! Link as below

Title - WANTED: Looking for a 3" to 6" Yniphora Tortoise
Description
Currently in search of a 3" to 6" Yniphora Tortoise. Tortoise will need to be exported into the U.S. with the proper permits. I am currently in the process of obtaining the proper permits to import them into the U.S. I should have these permits in a very short period of time and will then be ready to accept a shipment.

Haha just curious !!

Who has legal Yni anywhere in this part of the world !! Some US , Europe and a few north Asian Zoo / Park maybe but doubt any for sale ever !!

If some stupid player/keeper/seller contact them and got caught maybe a first to legalised some Yni in our country !!

----------------------------------------------------

Anyway how hard is it to keep and propagate this paticular sp ?? Except for few eggs per clutch and long maybe not so long incubation period ......etc HOW HARD COULD THEY BE ????

But do take note of a few things (I assume you are talking of Indian/SriLankan Star)

- Sulcata is a more aggressive sp take note of the Star if too stress seperate
- Star easier to get RNS

Hey bros, any updates on the wildlife 28th June thingy? It's declare first but no guarantee of getting approval for a licence it seems.

No news so far & date approaching. Pls share any experience...thanks! wink.gif
*
Is there a haul recently in KLIA or LCCT ?? Just read today in my local newspaper the said haul include
- a Yniphora
- a dozen or so Spider Tortoise
- a few hundred Radiated

Most important of all in that piece of news mention about the 28th June thingy
- They the wildlife department says its the 29th
- That certain mentioned tortoise sp ie Indian Star , Radiated , Angonoka will be confiscated upon declaration NO LICENSE will be issued !!

Any one can verify on whats allowed and whats not upon exposing ourself to the department ??

I can verify that State Directors, who are supposed to issue the special permission letter, do not have any clear directives from the Ministry of Natural Resources. So far, they do not know what to do upon receiving applications (format of the letter, etc)

As for the animals, they will be examined before any special permissions are issued (husbandry, conditions, etc). And strictly for private keepers, not traders. What's allowed and what's not allowed eludes me, except the fact that everything that falls under Act 76 and Act 317 won't be issued any letter as they are bound to the age old rules.

Sam, do you have the news clippings/links to said news? I saw the confiscation thingy yesterday but am not aware that Indian Star , Radiated , Angonoka will be confiscated upon declaration NO LICENSE will be issued !!. thanks.

Paper in Chinese thou !! Will search cut scan tomoro !!

Thought better do it now as 29th is near !!
