hello friends, i never owned a turtle before but my girlfriend rescued a Malayan Box Turtle found at the middle of the road near Kota Damansara and we originally wanted to feed it and let it go the next day but started loving the dude instead.

we are planning to keep him, i also did some research and found the best website here http://www.turtlepuddle.org/cuora/amboinensis.html

so just wanna know whether anyone else here who has the Malayan Box Turtle, maybe i can learn few additional stuff?

officially, it's a CITES II animal, which means that special permit would be needed to keep them under INTESA.

unofficially, besides that caresheet, try reading other caresheets as well, especially entries on lighting, UVB, parasite treatment for wild caught turtles, captive stress etc.

Why not but not for long as sulcata could out grow the star in less than a year !!

hideout is for the pleco, not the res.

anyway, don't take tolerance between animals for granted - those animals can hurt one another, by intention or by accident. and plecos are known to be such nuisance - chewing off cables, suction-cupping the underbellies of companion animals, etc.

saying all that, you can try whatever you see fit, at your own risk.

update:

pleco has been hiding under the tile all along and no conflict between the animals...

- Sulcata is a more aggressive sp take note of the Star if too stress seperate
- Star easier to get RNS

1stly, give the previous owner a spanking

as for the question, try introducing new food (in this case, hay) to its diet bit by bit - e.g. 30% chopped hay mixed (important!) with 70% bean for first meal, 40% chopped hay, 60% bean for second meal, and so on in small increments.

as for its preference for bean, don't give it a damn.

Is there a haul recently in KLIA or LCCT ?? Just read today in my local newspaper the said haul include
- a Yniphora
- a dozen or so Spider Tortoise
- a few hundred Radiated

Most important of all in that piece of news mention about the 28th June thingy
- They the wildlife department says its the 29th
- That certain mentioned tortoise sp ie Indian Star , Radiated , Angonoka will be confiscated upon declaration NO LICENSE will be issued !!

Any one can verify on whats allowed and whats not upon exposing ourself to the department ??

I can verify that State Directors, who are supposed to issue the special permission letter, do not have any clear directives from the Ministry of Natural Resources. So far, they do not know what to do upon receiving applications (format of the letter, etc)

As for the animals, they will be examined before any special permissions are issued (husbandry, conditions, etc). And strictly for private keepers, not traders. What's allowed and what's not allowed eludes me, except the fact that everything that falls under Act 76 and Act 317 won't be issued any letter as they are bound to the age old rules.

Sam, do you have the news clippings/links to said news? I saw the confiscation thingy yesterday but am not aware that Indian Star , Radiated , Angonoka will be confiscated upon declaration NO LICENSE will be issued !!. thanks.
