The logic behind this is simple. TM doesn't want people using the "try and buy" and cancelling their Streamyx and then resubscribing to Streamyx after 3 months in order to obtain free FTTH internet for those 3 months of trial.

Therefore, I think only those who have sign up with Unifi VIP packages will be allowed to cancel their old lines. The "Try and buy" users will be locked down.
*
In my case, i am considered as "signed up with Unifi VIP" user, as i am required to sign the contract to subscribe Unifi for minimum 2 years. Even that, they wont allow me to cut my streamyx line b4 30 june 2010 (which i am very sure that my streamyx line is not under any contract)

Anyway, my problem is not about why they wont allow me to cut my streamyx line, its more to Why they have not cut my Streamyx line and Phone line on 1st July 2010, as requested by me via a service termination form filled and submitted on Mid of June 2010.

Is that so hard to terminate the phone line and streamyx account? I am for sure NOT GOING TO PAY them whatever they charged on me for the phone line and streamyx line starting from 1st July 2010.

Looks a bit troublesome to upgrade to Unifi. I think I will wait until they reduce the pricing for Unifi, and sort out these fledgling problems.

RM149 for a 5mbps connection is definitely overpriced.

In that case, are they gonna bill you for Unifi for June/July as well?

Did you receive your confirmation slip when you submitted your cancellation forms? They're supposed to give you a confirmation slip, or a copy of your termination form with time and date stamp. This shows you had already cancelled earlier.

They will probably pro rate you for the month of June if they processed it properly. You're right, in that they shouldn't charge you for the month of July. Better call them again to check this, but don't worry, as long as you have the paperwork, you should be fine.

If you want solid QOS and third party firmware, then Teddy Bear Tomato firmware is the only way to go  hmm.gif

Best broadcom router for that is RT-N16 atm.
*
How much is the RT-N16?

Actually I'm trying not to settle for just an ALL-IN-ONE box.

I also need to get OPENVPN running & QOS is a must.

Thats why I was planning on using the Debian box since i can install OPENVPN and then get QOS to work (via L7 & Iptables).

Now just need some tutorial on how to get the VLAN to work. I read bro rizvanrp's suggestion but I am still not sure bot some things.

Btw bro rizvanrp,

You used to use an Ubuntu / Debian box, now what do you use / recommend that is much more stable that will do the job?

I was told that Unifi was free until 30 June and i would be billed for Unifi start 1st July 2010. I am actually ok for them to drag my disconnection of streamyx still end of June 2010 for whatever reason, the problem is they did not disconnect it, even until today ( i guess so as i can hear the dial tone (phone line), and assuming they too did not disconnect my streamyx account also).

Ya, luckily i asked for a copy of my termination Slip dated mid of June, will need to go to TM point AGAIN!

just a question, i am supposed to set an IP address for the vlan interfaces right what IP's do i set?

I'm planning to do some solid QOS'ng on the HSBB line. I dont want torrenting to screw-up my Youtube and streaming experience. Currently I'm using DD-WRT but the damn QOS in the box isnt that solid.

I also want to get my email server to run smoothly and not choke out of bandwidth. I was looking at smoothwall & ipcop but they dont support vlan.
*
VLAN interfaces don't need ip addresses. They just have to be 'up'.

For QOS I'm not sure what you're going to have to use.. probably iptables or something. Everything has to be done manually. The problem with using endian/pfsense/smoothwall/ipcop is not only do they have to support PPPoE over VLAN (which endian and pfsense do), they have to support VLAN bridging for IPTV (which endian and pfsense dont).

some info bout the new Huawei GPON Unit (ONU)

- web management IP address is 192.168.100.1
- can be accessed via any of the 4 LAN ports, DHCP is enabled, u will get 192.168.100.x IP, if not just manual config ur IP to 192.168.100.x
- default username/password is: telecomadmin/admintelecom

during installation, the guys will have slip with a lot of configuration info with them. one of the info is "CPEType_0_ONUPassword", it's a 10 digit number. im not sure whats it for but i saw the guys keying this in the ONU during installation. i jotted it down since this wasnt provided in my Unifi registration email.

there are VLAN settings and stuff, but i haven't tried anything yet coz the TM guys will be back again today to troubleshoot my VOIP. my VOIP not working yet, they still trying to fix it.

one question: if you disable your VOIP by turning off the ONU, and u try to call the VOIP number, what will you get? a call tone with no one answering or a 'fail to connect' tone?

I understand now. It is a bit of a hassle to have to go to TM point all the time.

FYI, the last time I checked, Unifi bills can only be paid at TM Point. Nowhere else. sweat.gif

I'm going through the same process as well. So far my line still isn't cut and I've already returned the telephone unit to TM, so I can't check there. I have to dial 100 to check and they tell me I have a balance on my account due to billing for July. They say I should just wait for the bill at the end of July which they say will already be pro rated. If not, I should take the termination slip and get it pro rated at a TM Point.

The TM technicians came to my house last monday, installed all the wiring and setup but for some reason they can't get any connection. Then they said will come again on Wednesday but they never did even till now. Even called them up and they still have no idea bout the situation. So right now all the BTU, Router, VOIP phone is all there for display only. WTF la TM? shakehead.gif

1st installation from puchong done...just over 3 hours....they only managed to start work only @ 1pm..becoz my house was assigned to the dp on the neighbouring road..took them a the whole morning to sort out with network operation people. Not getting..the Fibrehome ONU...It's Huawei instead and Dlink router as expected

I was told the fibre modem you'll be getting depends on the equipment at your exchange. It can be Fibrehome, Huawei or Alcatel-Lucent. Most areas will be getting Huawei though. For Alcatel, as far as they know only cyberjaya, putrajaya will be getting them.

Performance wise...still testing it

yup, mine is huawei as well... not that bad the modem, looks quite nice.

But the DLINK sucks big time.

My installation took quite long, started at 10.30am went till about 1.45, then it rained till about 3. then work resumed and then TM managed to complete everything by 5.

hahaha... when the guy was configuring it I saw the DLINK router hanged about 2-3 times. Then when I tinkered with it it hanged about 3 times on me personally and sometimes the WLAN signal just disappears. ~weird ~

Truly i say the DLINK sucks big time...

Got mine installed today too, took them around 4 hours to get everything done .. they need to get a contractor to do the underground cabling .. the internals were done by TM guys.

As the rest, I got a Huawei GPON terminal, a DLink DIR-615, IP STB and a Panasonic DECT phone. I wonder, since the GPON is actually a router, why on earth they added the DIR-615 into the equation?

Need to disconnect my fixed phone and screamyx tomorrow, and will try to get my Buffalo WZR-HP-G300 running on openwrt configured to take over the DIR-615 .. not really a heavy internet user since I don't do torrent that often, but I guess am up to the challenge smile.gif

just another question here, since it mentioned "international connection"
izit possible that we find a VPN service(i am sure it's easy finding here in LYN) to tunnel from local -> US? that way we are still counted as local connection right?
