hi guys, recently streamyx screw my internet connection up badly...even though my area can get 1.5M, and i have been getting it for few years already, before the outage 2 weeks back, speed has been slow, and even right now, after 4 complains and 3rd reported being opened, my speed is still throttled @ 450kbps...

so, i would really like to know, the following questions:

1)how is the international connection? last time i recall it's very bad, so i am wondering if that's improved.

2) must i totally stick to the router they provide or can i use my own router and still preserve all the other functions like IPTV and VOIP? currently using Linksys WRT-54GS, and is running DD-WRT FW

3)do they have the stupid "best effort at 80% speed" this like streamyx?

4)i see that a few pages back users complaint about IPTV freezing, and inconsistent + unstable connection..it's still like this now?

thanks biggrin.gif

--> Very good for me. No problems.. Slightly slow during the so call "cable" issue.. but still usable..

2) must i totally stick to the router they provide or can i use my own router and still preserve all the other functions like IPTV and VOIP? currently using Linksys WRT-54GS, and is running DD-WRT FW
--> Don't know. Other fellas should be able to respond.

3)do they have the stupid "best effort at 80% speed" this like streamyx?
--> Thats consumer broadband for you mah... I wonder if there's anywhere in the world which provides guaranteed bandwidth for consumer packages. I know some business packages for IP-VPN provides guaranteed service level, but its super duper expensive...
4)i see that a few pages back users complaint about IPTV freezing, and inconsistent + unstable connection..it's still like this now?
--> Freezing yes. Unstable.. not really.. But no biggie. Not a show stopper for me.

thanks a lot...about question 4, actually i intent to ask if the internet connection is consistent and stable or not..cos i read few pages back, users complain about frequent DC, and sometimes can get 5M, sometimes getting 3M then sometimes sometimes getting funny funny upload speed...just wanna confirm on that...

I think anything between 200 - 300GB cap/m is reasonable... to maintain a good quality speed...
*
i agree to that as well..and maybe it should be throttled to 25% speed or 50% speed instead of 1M...to be fair to users that pay more for higher speed as well

how you guys do your speedtest? it keep giving me stupid results. I think the torrent screen is more accurate.

WTF?

honestly speedtest arent exactly reliable, cos sometimes they will have spiking speeds, in ur case, i suspect it's slow speed then near end suddenly boom, one shot data come in, and it recognize as what....200M? yeah, best way is to show torrent screen or DDL full speed screenshot, or a bandwidth graph would also do the trick
lol...eh i wonder when can malaysia have this speed..looking forward to it lol...

''They are, instead comparing broadband service in Singapore, which claimed more affordable, while there, they use the cable and we are using optical fibers,''he said at a press conference after the annual general meeting here today TM.

to be honest, as end users, we don really give a damn on what technology is used, we just want value performance....if he says IPTV extra charges bla bla bla...why not just drop the IPTV service and offer us a cheaper plan? i'm sure they will get more subscribers with that option.
He did not mention anything about the caps, which i think aint gonna finalize yet as well...well, i hope even VIP5 gets at least 120GB cap, the rest...up to scale would be nice, and throttled speed also should be according to what speed you can, not everything capped to 1M tongue.gif

Well we have the technology now. According to wiki fiber cable can transfer up to 2.5Gbps. So with fiber to the home we have 1 less thing to worry in future.

but the biggest thing is always the ISP, TM, so far from what i see, since they are in their way to monopolize the market, their ignorance is going to kill us, and screw us up like streamyx right now....
i really wish singtel or penangfon would rapidly expand their area of service, if they can provide consistent speed and good service, i don mind paying slightly more every month

@rizvanrp: u flashed to DD-WRT? that means no IPTV? planning on getting, cos stupid streamyx dunno wtf happen until i capped at 50kb/s for one month now and no technician come fix...but on ur recent discovery on backdoor and stuff..and the potential cap implementation..i am still rather worried..and if using my own router means bye bye IPTV, that's also not an option for me

means the dir-615 just act as a middleman from the fibre modem unit to my router, and my router is the one doing all the network address masking and data transmit work?

eh i got confused a bit with Lucas's case..so do we still have the access to our router, and config stuffs like port forwarding or QoS and stuff...

Added on June 14, 2010, 12:05 pmneed to make up my mind soon...cos maybe this week imma terminate screamyx and get unifi...

stupid sh*t throttled my speed for so many weeks already, and till now also still no change..

for downloaders(i think i would be downloading ~100GB per month with 10M), izit advisable to change? and Gaming also, games like Team Fortress 2, L4D2, is the latency good?

also, i heard from previous IPTV beta tester(my friend is one) that his game will spike when the IPTV switches channel...does anyone face that with the actual IPTV now?

oh...i see...but can i obtain the "True Admin" account detail from them?
cos if cannot access the important settings like port setting..later they can just lock us off from anything but HTTP connection..that time we can really die...zzz

just another question here, since it mentioned "international connection"
izit possible that we find a VPN service(i am sure it's easy finding here in LYN) to tunnel from local -> US? that way we are still counted as local connection right?
