wanna ask what is the sign that i need to send a lens for cleaning or service?? erm jsut got a second hand wan....but duno if should send..

check for any fungus or too much amount of dust inside the lens which may effect your picture? (if it was little would not affect)

another question:

About shutter release remote is the wireless better or wired?

fansoption: I like #1 but try to get a better composition. #3 now that's something! I like how you've got an angle that gets the petals and buds in focus.

junior5417: Focus forward, and back... you can sorta estimate where in-between will be in focus so you turn it back in between.

cjlai: OMG congratulations! Remember the Sigma HSM lenses can only be used with Sigma HSM teleconverters.

mastering89: Congratulations. However I guess I'd prefer the Gakkenflex for 135 format TLR photography because it has an actual focusing viewfinder. The icon shows you how to use zone focusing.

As the picture goes into darkness there will be noise in the shadows.

lwliam: The Gakkenflex and Blackbird.fly use 135 format film (35mm full-frame) which is a lot easier to find and process compared to the usual TLRs which use 120 format film (medium format). So it is cheaper if you stick to C-41 negative film.

d4rkholeang3l: Nice!

shootkk: I would not equate primes to being more likely to make images, but still I do see the value in primes.

clivengu: The A700 + Sony 35mm F1.4G has that classic Minolta color and bokeh. It has a very pleasant rendition. But the A850 + Sigma 50mm F1.4 EX DG HSM is good too, but with a look that will please all the digital-age pixel-peepers. (I got the same look from the Sigma 30mm F1.4.) Depth of field on the A850 + 50mm will be shallower. Also, the 35mm F1.4G focuses much closer, 30cm, being a wide-angle design.

It is not a lens to be shooting landscapes wide open with, though (and you shouldn't be shooting landscapes wide open.) What you should be looking at, is what you intend to shoot with the lens - for example, I shoot low light and portraits. For that, the Minolta/Sony 35mm F1.4G is simply superb.

Well hey, try both! If you like butterscotch ice-cream, don't let people force you to buy chocolate ice-cream.

wingster: Wired, as it will work in the brightest of sunlight, and with the bracketing modes (notice that the Drive Remote mode is mutually exclusive.)

lwilliam n wingster, i think it falls under category below

2nd hand not under warranty, not functioning well but still usable, and got extra cash = send
but its functioning OK only, cause i am not sure some of the pics seems to be overexposed (burst shot 2, sometimes ok sometimes one of it is over)
extra cash would estimate around rm100 enough ka? hope got ppl can clean minolta and sigma lens smile.gif

saw no fungus, use torchlite, sun and white floruosen light....but found some minor scuff mark on the lens element though... may send cleaning can polish it?? how to see for dust inside?? not sure oo

porkchop, your case of bursting 2 shots and getting uneven exposures for both shots is not contributed by the lens. that would be due to the environment you are in that time, having bright lights and dark shadows all in the same scene while using spot metering mode. another reason would be due to a burst of flash into a nearby reflective object rendering the metering done by the camera to go into an exposure frenzy.

My intended shooting hmm.gif I like the focal length of 50mm on fullframe, A prime i can just mount on my camera and go out to shoot almost anything i like. 50mm on A700 is always too tight.. for food or for potrait (casual shooting..not planned ) But im not moving to FF yet.. not YEEEEETTTTTT... unless im earning from photography. laugh.gif

So if i compare the depth of field for both combo.. even at F1.4 the depth of field on a fullframe will be shallower?

Correct me if im wrong, i give an example of a scenario:

A700 + 17-50mm f2.8 shooting at 50mm at F2.8 compare to
A850 + 24-70mm f2.8 shooting at 70mm at F2.8

After the cropping on A700, the 50mm should = to the focal length of 70mm on Fullframe? or about there. But what will be the depth of field difference? On Fullframe will it give more depth of field? I thought they are the same all this while (other than megapixel count)

On no occasion did I mention that using primes is pro while using zooms are noobs. I am just saying that with zoom lenses one will very likely start to develop a 'lazy' syndrome as in you get yourself rooted in one spot and just stay there and shoot. This is the reason why compact point and shoot cameras with 10x or 18x or 32x zoom lenses are popular. Clivengu has experienced this and he finds that using a zoom he has a habit of getting a lot of shots that are very similar to one another and in the end he has to crop a lot during PP.

Also with zoom lenses one will also very likely use the zoom to frame and forego other approaches to framing and/or composition. Face it, we've all done it before, no?

All I am saying is that a prime lens is more conducive to let you learn to think more about the shot before you lift the camera up to your eyes. Because of this, it will help you to develop a habit where you will start to think about your shots before you even take them. Having a mental picture in your mind about what you want to shoot helps immensely. Ever had the experience where you are just itching to shoot something and you go out and find yourself having trouble in deciding on what to shoot? Then you come home with hundreds of shots but none actually stands out. That's because you are just shooting aimlessly without any pre-conceived ideas of what you want to shoot.

Once you have developed a habit of creating a picture in your mind before you release your shutter, it does not matter any longer if you are using a zoom or a prime. In the beginning, a prime will help you to get that picture into your mind. You could say that it helps you in training your eye, which is the single most important thing about photography.

ieR: You can also desaturate the magenta channel in Hue/Saturation/Lightness. Many RAW programs also allow you to remove purple fringing.

clivengu: 50mm F1.4 on FF will not look like 35mm F1.4 on APS-C (FF will have shallower DOF.)
