QUOTE(ieR @ Apr 17 2010, 07:46 AM) F20 is marvelous, the bounce is enough for single storey ceiling distance max of 6-7meters at iso400 F4. not bad. i think this will be my favorite go around flash, (F58 will use for strobing and weddings only) best part, its so light, even when shooting direct, it can go really far and still not as terrible then expected F20 ??? hmmm... somehow I smell a FF Sony haul in ieR's near horizon This post has been edited by Banzai_san: Apr 17 2010, 07:51 AM |

I should try shooting without flash Thanks for the tip. btw, luv your new hairstyle... |

Im trying out some suggestions by some brothers on events photoshoot.
ie. 1- try using high ISO eg 3200 2- use flash ceiling bounce 3- try using no flash ie just use the stage lights... I think Im getting more quantities of nicer photos than before eg less distracting flash shadows etc. Added on April 21, 2010, 3:25 am QUOTE(ieR @ Apr 21 2010, 03:22 AM) on the weird noise... QUOTE(ieR @ Apr 21 2010, 03:26 AM) iso1600 should be sufficient @.@ flash bounce ceiling is right, but if ceiling too high, a bounce card will do the trick too. no flash, SSS on, train ur arm to stabilizes, make sure shutter not slower then 1/20 (if u beginner, some pro can go as low as 1/5 without shakes) and dont zoom too far (eg. 200mm) Thanks ieR for your comments. I have to remember them... The photos above Im using my 1680Z F3.5-4.5 lens. Hence no extra long zooms... |

QUOTE(achew @ Apr 21 2010, 03:38 AM) Yes, but not all. I took some for afar as close to the stage were the VVIPs table. Hence, I dont want to show my "back" to Sabah's Chief Minister and other ministers... hehe You have a very keen observation la achew san. Hawk's eye I guess for a stage performance like this, a longer & brighter zoom would be very appropriate... *sigh* when will the day come that I'll have enough cash to buy the 70200G... ------------------------ addendum: Ive had a second thought. What bro achew mention I think is something very important for me to seriously take note in my next shooting such as this. Before this I do not put much weight on too much cropping... but achew's comment really hit the nail on the head. Thank you very much achew. I hope to learn more from you and also others... QUOTE(freddy manson @ Apr 21 2010, 07:17 AM) no need 70200G 1st.. do with what u have 1st banzai... banzai san.. maybe u can try fast lens first.. but with a well lighted stage i dont think u need flash that much.. iso 1600 is enuf + u can also use prime 50mm for the portrait mah.. ya loh... at the moment, I have to learn how to use my 1680Z F3.5-4.5 to get better / more acceptable photos. I agree that with a well lighted stage, ISO1600 would be adequately bright enough, but a brighter lense (eg F2.8) would be very nice indeed. Nicer photos (ie isolating the subject from the distracting background) + can more easily freeze the subject's movement (by using faster shutter speed). A 50mm lense reach for me is too short for my kind of stage shooting (ya loh... still noob lagi ni hehe). Even my longest lense can reach 80mm also I find not enough reach (but of course la, in the hands of experienced sifus here, they can get very good shots using shorter reach lenses ) One thing I learn is that, for events shooting, I have to learn to be comfortable changing various camera settings (eg ISO, Shutter Speed, Aperture, flash settings, WB settings, DRO/no DRO...). Some times I just use the same settings, and as events like this, the lighting can sometimes be of a challange, ie lighting changes). After snapping the photo, I preview the shots from the camera LCD, and find shots not properly exposed etc... QUOTE(Wonka @ Apr 21 2010, 09:18 AM) Donno... High ISO NR is set to NORMAL. Maybe due to heavy cropping that the photos are close to pixel level (hence the deteriorating IQ as mentioned by achew san). ermm... I thought some of the photos are good (for my standard la) and the rest are "acceptable" but should improve more la... |

QUOTE(Wonka @ Apr 21 2010, 09:52 AM) How much left? you mean the cropping or the savings up? Cropping left maybe 25% or less. Saving up maybe if go for Tamron 70200F2.8, hopefully sometime this year. If going for the 70200G... then kena tunggu lama lagi la... maybe next year .. donno... |

QUOTE(wha7ever @ Apr 21 2010, 10:20 AM) --------- 8< --- snip --- 8< ----------- Banzai_san : Is the ceiling high? If it is, don't bother to do make a ceiling bounce. Just use a bounce card will do; and if you're beside a wall (if the wall is not dark in color), do a light bounce on the wall instead. The ceiling is not very high but due to the distance to the subject, when using ceiling bounce... the distance travel to the ceiling + ceiling to subject... that is quite a distance too. I was using ceiling bounce + the F58 built in bounce card... I dont know if the built in bounce card was much help... but some photos looked OK (ie nice to my novice standard la) QUOTE(albnok @ Apr 21 2010, 10:34 AM) --------- 8< --- snip --- 8< ----------- Banzai_san: Nice #1 and #4 (his band is called Estranged by the way.) Single crops are very obvious - maybe it should've been a full group picture. And yes, cropping is what made it obvious. If you're on a budget, the Minolta 135mm F2.8 will be just long enough for stage. It would be in the RM1xxx range. Thanks for correcting me on the Estranged correct spelling The original picture I shot the whole group... but unfortunately got 1 service waitress's head entered the frame... thus I purposely cropped thighter... hehe Also thanks for the suggestion Minolta 135mm F2.8. I need to read about that lens. Sound interesting... |

QUOTE(kev da man @ Apr 22 2010, 10:59 AM) a550 does not have contrast AF? hmm that explains why the center point is usually hit-or-miss with its accuracy. i don't have any problems with the viewfinder though, i'm just irritated at the AF accuracy of the a550 at wide open apertures when using the live view. perhaps i worded it wrongly in the first post hahaha. for the record, manually focusing the rig does not seem to replicate this problem so far. perhaps i should use a focus test chart? sony's official response isn't too pleasing. maybe your A550 has a back (or front) focusing problem? I think my A550 may has... but have not really check with the focus chart. |
