On no occasion did I mention that using primes is pro while using zooms are noobs. I am just saying that with zoom lenses one will very likely start to develop a 'lazy' syndrome as in you get yourself rooted in one spot and just stay there and shoot. This is the reason why compact point and shoot cameras with 10x or 18x or 32x zoom lenses are popular. Clivengu has experienced this and he finds that using a zoom he has a habit of getting a lot of shots that are very similar to one another and in the end he has to crop a lot during PP.

Also with zoom lenses one will also very likely use the zoom to frame and forego other approaches to framing and/or composition. Face it, we've all done it before, no?

All I am saying is that a prime lens is more conducive to let you learn to think more about the shot before you lift the camera up to your eyes. Because of this, it will help you to develop a habit where you will start to think about your shots before you even take them. Having a mental picture in your mind about what you want to shoot helps immensely. Ever had the experience where you are just itching to shoot something and you go out and find yourself having trouble in deciding on what to shoot? Then you come home with hundreds of shots but none actually stands out. That's because you are just shooting aimlessly without any pre-conceived ideas of what you want to shoot.

Once you have developed a habit of creating a picture in your mind before you release your shutter, it does not matter any longer if you are using a zoom or a prime. In the beginning, a prime will help you to get that picture into your mind. You could say that it helps you in training your eye, which is the single most important thing about photography.
