lepak le. really not in the condition to be seen, gonna settle my filter problem firs, my classic i think not doing the job well. the water is cloudy, gonna try ADA medium and Eheim together, see how it goes, my second filter got some brown stuff there, dunno wats that

hi guys,

I am new to the planted tank. Looked through at some of the photos here really inspire me to start one up. Bought some ADA soil(with power sand), fan, DIY co2 and a new tank (2x1x1 feet) along with some tetras .Plants growing nicely, but notice some hair algae. WHen do I start fertilizing the plants ? I am planning to buy some Brighty Step 1 and Brighty K. LFS says that I should start fertilizing only 1 month later and now I am in my third week. Any advice ?

yeap, most of the time is 1 month later ...
for Brighty K aka Potassium every day 1 ml for 2 feet tank...
and if save cost i do suggest get Seachem Flourish... what i do is
everyday 1ml = 1 push of the Brighty K ( when i switch on the light )
for Seachem Flourish i put 5ml for every week after water change...

I dose from day 1 >=D well, that's everyone's preferences la.. we do have succesful scapers without even the need to dose

Fertilizer ( BENIH ) !!

dose too much and ur growing algae. so id say get some algae eaters to eat the hair algae and start dosing next week

Seachem contains micro trace right....? and Brighty K for potassium.... I notice that ADA line of fertilizer don't have supplements for nitrogen and phosporus....Should i go for Seachem instead ?

if u have the cash to spend then go for DO AQUA ! they have NPK

Erk Michanzz i dont know where i read in My-Mac forums someone said dosing alot Fert wont caused algae... algae attack due to the other circumstances... i forgot about what already... someone mind to explain ? Chuppy? haha

about the Nitrogen of ADA i believe they have, just that they change their bottle name... eg Brighty K = Potassium... try google ADA Step 1 and 2 and etc their product description ..

No nitrogen and phosphorus? sure? Brighty Special Lights/Shade is the key..


Aiya.. We have been repeating the theory on algae's appearance..

DOSE too much, not enough c02 and light.. ALGAE COME
Dont dose at all, a lot of light, no c02... ALGAE COME..
Dose adequately, a lot og c02, not much light.. also ALGAE COME..

Strike a balance between the 3 and you would have MINIMAL algae..

Why? So we can let our plants to grow at optimum strength so no excess nutrients for the algae to feed on..

::Simple conclusion::
Provide all the necessaries for your plant to grow at it's best ( c02 light fert) and your plant will grow healthily.. when that happens, algae will be minimal.. so to overdose is not a wise decision as well.

Hi , my tank is 1 month old.. there are some neons in it.. i bought some RCS and i put some of the water from the tank into the plastic.. and put my plastic in the tank.. but the shrimp seems to be agitated..

wen30: i would suggest wait until your tank matured 1st better... my tank already 3 months i also haven put in shrimp yet lolz...

1 feet tank with 250l/hour filter consider too much?

niasink! different tanks will have different requirement, no 2 tanks are the same, same size?yeah but different types/amount of plants will need different requirements for ferts/chemicals/waterchanges/water conditionings or whatever.

so its up to the tank owner to get a feel of their tanks.. monitor tank conditions, water parameters algae sightings. with just monitoring the types and amount of algae that grows, u can learn alot about ur water parameters.. see what algae you got, google up and read why u have that particular algae. from there u try to alter the conditions of the tank, less ferts? less co2? less lights? or the other way round?

so no one can tell you use this fert or add that much quantity of co2 specifically, people can recommend you to try this or that, well use that as a basicpoint and try and see how ur tanks react to it, from there u alter a little the changes according to your tank..

basically most of us will have to go thru trial and error. see what suits ur tank best!





it is sometimes normal for shrimps to be agitated, either ur tanks isint suitable yet for shrimps, filter not mature and etc,

or just that the shrimp from the shop is already used to the tanks in theshops, now u bring them home they have to get used to your tank water condition pulak..

i sacrificed about 30 - 40 shrimps just to test out my water.. my tank got stable and shrimps start to breed only afer 1 - 2 months i set up my tank..
all u have to do is read up more on their requirements and how to implement it in your tank water conditions..
with a little patience you'll have them breeding!

next time take out the water keep in in a baldi, rscape without the water in the tank.. then masukkan new water 50% then take it out again.. then u slowly slowlyslowly slowyly pour in the original water u took out earlier..

1ft tank has about 30liters? i think less? maybe 25liters?

my calculations based on chuppy, (dontwant take blame if wrong so points to chuppy) is ur tank 25 liter x 10 - 12 = 250l/h - 300l/h filter is neede

i think my shrimp play April fool with me.. 1 of them went missing from the plastic when i woke up this worning, i placed the plastic bag at a corner last night.. no body found...

wa... michanz started v4 wor... nice... so fast growing this thread.. aro thread oni hav 1.1k posts and started before this thread... anyways... dunno how am i going to save... im a BIG,BIG SPENDER.... and im also targeting a 6 footer for my precious aro... then the 3footer will be free but the problem is that mum doesnt allow me to place tank inside... that means... extreme algae problem... I could put at the back but need plug point... some more is that this whole plan could be ruined if my dad doesnt agree on the 6 footer...

Putting aquarium inside room bad fengshui theory..

It disrupts your sleep. Sound of water flowing is not healthy to the 'soul' .. Or in this case, usually is the vibration of the filters and air pumps LOL..

do you use normal scissors? or you buy the curve scissor? i tried 2 times to plant HC but they all died.. donno what happen.. i got diy CO2..

needs good light and co2! and good temperatures as well!

i use the small scissors my dad used to trim his beard 1 !and just trim like trimming beard ! hahaha

i off the filter so less current in the tank.. i trim trim trim! then leave it oni, then pick up and flying moss then on filter the moss will naturaly get stuck behind a rock then i wont see it lol
