The buzzying sound, I think it's because of trapped air inside the canister. Keep your canister running and slowly tilt the canister at all directions for a few times. should solve your problem. AFter that, you'll be surprice how silent a Eheim canister runs...so quiet you dont know it's working unless you feel it with your hands.
And...filter medias DO NOT cause increase in tank water temperature. Any type of motor, be it eheim or not eheim, will produce heat, it's PHYSICS!.
