Understand the merits and demerits of each technology, make the sales guy play the feed that you will use most and let ur eyes decide. Thats the most important.

this V20k , if there's no signal input , the blank screen will not be as black/dark as many other models. however , if there's a signal input ,meaning to say when you play a movie from any HD source and even DVD, the black level is impressive , especially in dim environment . i have tried it on the latest Batman and others, and i'm impressed. you're probably confused blank screen with black levels. i have a sammy R8 LCD and the blank screen is always blacker than this V but once there's a signal feed , this V comes to live

why did you set the brightness to +40 when the default is at 0 and you are still doing the breaking-in . this neoplasma panel is so good that even when the brighness is set at low , the white level are still very impressive and in dark scenes the shadow details is still good and clear. i really love this babe. the color reproduction is awesome
*
sorry sir, seems i'm confused....it's not brightness , but the contrast is 40 and also the color is 40 (everybody told me to lower down the value in break in period), the broghtness in the 0, thoigh if I lower the brightness....it will not getting blacker, just stay greyish black

But If i feed a video, yes it is impressive both color and movement.

Just if I feed the whole black image...it wouldn't seems that black compare to my LC when dispaly the same image (using warm lightbulb)

a_loen,

Where r u based at? Penang or KL? Did u feed that same image to the LCD? And it is black? R u crushing black in the LCD?

Also, if u r using the Break in DVD, then setting the contrast so low, defeats the purpose.

Dear anfeldude,

I'm not stay on both, actualy I'm from Indonesia. But seems like we share the common type of V20, my folks aroind here not so enthusiast as malaysian forum.

Yes, I did.feed the same image, but It's shows lighter than the lcd. If I turn off all the lights, both will have similar color, though LCD is a little bit brighter, but my plasma also looks grey.

My question is, if you feed total(whole screen) black image and all the lights off. Can we expect a total black? Or we still see a lighter black, since the tv emits some light.

I may over expected, I thought, If I feed the black image and the lights were off, I will see a reaaly black screen.

Anyway thank you for your help, please don't be annoyed for my newbie and tsupid questions.

BTW what is the best setting for contrast and color during break in period?

In a totally dark room, no display today can do total black. The V20 is closest to 8G Kuro, so there will still be a dark grey glow from the display. The 9G goes significantly darker, so in a darkened room, it will be closer to black on a total black screen. What u r expecting, of a totally black screen can be got from a local dimming LED where it totally shuts off when total black is detected, but with as little as 1 pixel content the backlit will light up and it will be grey. A plasma will do better blacks in that extent.

Even the 9G Kuros can only do bezel melting blacks with a bias lighting behind the display only, in total darkness ur pupils will open up to allow more light, and thus the screens will not look so black. 2 yrs ago before Pioneer shut down, they demo-ed the technology u r expecting, the ECC (Extreme Contrast Concept). This was supposed to come out in a couple of years but they shut down.

OLED is the next best thing to total black so lets see however the half lifes of the different elements are not up to mark yet. Right now, I would suggest to get a low powered bias light and put it behind ur display so that ur pupils are more relaxed and also to enhance ur black level. Still the V20s black levels are superior to most displays out there especially in mixed content. There is no content out there that only has black screen except test signals.

Also if u r planning on watching content, during the early life of the panel, then I would suggest reducing the contrast/colour and mixing ur content. However, if u plan to use the break in dvd then u need to jack up the contrast/colour so that u can age ur phospors faster. U need to decide which method u want to use.

Why do you want to set Brightness to 50? Isn't 50 is the maximum value?

It's may be hard to compare since our V20 is different from the Europe version. Anyway, IMHO, if you are happy with your set now, maybe you can hold off the updating until you are sure what's in the software update. Did they give more details on the update? Like what are they fixing/adding?

Can register online. Whether you want to register or not depend on yourself. Some shops I know their will ask you don't write purchase date yet cause if in future, your TV game over after warranty period, the shop will help you to fill in the purchase date later than actual purchase date. So, even your warranty is expired, the shop still can help you to inform manufacturer that your TV set still under warranty. blush.gif

In the warranty card, there is this T&C:

Please Note: You are required to present the warranty card together with the purchase receipt for your free warranty service, failing which the company or its authorised service dealer reserves the right to decline any warranty claim.

The warranty of the tv is 2 years (minimum). By that time the model has obsoleted. Will the shop give you a new receipt stating the new "purchase" date?
I don't think they will do that. Furthermore, now all the receipts are generated by the computer.

Where to register online?

That is what the shop offer to you. Accept or not depend on you. There is nothing in the clause stated that if anyone purchase a brand new obsolete model, that unit will not cover by manufacturer warranty. tongue.gif

Of course, if you plan to buy extended warranty, you have no choose but have to register. blush.gif

Thank you for your replies. You have valid points there.
Another point I noticed is, there is a manufacture date on the tv.
It is May 2010.

U need to pay extra depending on ur model (P50U20K is RM330 for additional 3 year) if ur warranty is 2 years. U need to register online to get this extended warranty.

Some shops would get u the warranty when u purchase and pay the extra amount

There are 2 types of extended warranty when u buy from shop:
1. Warranty directly from Panasonic
2. Warranty from insurance company
