LED backlit LCD is very nice if you play HD source
if SD, the picture still cant beat Plasma...imho

later end of the year, i think you will see more flouro backlit LCD phasing out to be replaced by LED backlit.

What about when tv stations go digital?
Which one will be a better option? Plasma or LCD/LED?

Why do you want to set Brightness to 50? Isn't 50 is the maximum value?

Can register online.  Whether you want to register or not depend on yourself.  Some shops I know their will ask you don't write purchase date yet cause if in future, your TV game over after warranty period, the shop will help you to fill in the purchase date later than actual purchase date.  So, even your warranty is expired, the shop still can help you to inform manufacturer that your TV set still under warranty.  blush.gif
*
In the warranty card, there is this T&C:

Please Note: You are required to present the warranty card together with the purchase receipt for your free warranty service, failing which the company or its authorised service dealer reserves the right to decline any warranty claim.

The warranty of the tv is 2 years (minimum). By that time the model has obsoleted. Will the shop give you a new receipt stating the new "purchase" date?
I don't think they will do that. Furthermore, now all the receipts are generated by the computer.

Where to register online?

That is what the shop offer to you.  Accept or not depend on you.  There is nothing in the clause stated that if anyone purchase a brand new obsolete model, that unit will not cover by manufacturer warranty.  tongue.gif

Of course, if you plan to buy extended warranty, you have no choose but have to register.  blush.gif

Thank you for your replies. You have valid points there.
Another point I noticed is, there is a manufacture date on the tv.
It is May 2010.

U need to pay extra depending on ur model (P50U20K is RM330 for additional 3 year) if ur warranty is 2 years. U need to register online to get this extended warranty.

Some shops would get u the warranty when u purchase and pay the extra amount

There are 2 types of extended warranty when u buy from shop:
  1. Warranty directly from Panasonic
  2. Warranty from insurance company

Hi rublik,

Thank you very much for your valuable information. Will check them out.

QUOTE(PoorMan @ Jun 19 2010, 11:08 PM)
The best is that you view a Bluray movie ... real close upfront (I mean that literally ie less than 6 feet away). Then you compare with the X20 on the detail, brightness and colour clarity as well as the contrast. Then you'll see why V20 > X20.
*
You will see the difference if you know what to expect from the two different tv. If your eyes are not able to pick the difference, then it is better to buy the X20 series since the V20 cost double the price.
Moreover, when you are watching the tv at home, there is no other tv to compare. You won't know when there is a slight drop in quality.

I also noticed some shops are selling the TH-P42X28K and some shops are selling the TH-P42X20K. Are there any difference between these two models? Which one is the newer model?

Double check if its P50X20K and P42X28K? Apparently, only 2 models for Malaysia. Both are 2010 models.
*
Yes, Carrefour is selling P50X20K and P42X20K while the X28K are sold in other electrical shops.
Just need to know are there any difference between the 2 models.

From what I can find out, they are technically the same. Possibly the only difference is that the X20K can swivel and X28K cannot. Or the other way around, I can't remember ...
*
QUOTE(willkso @ Jun 20 2010, 09:40 PM)
Both should be the same, maybe some different in cosmetic and X20K I believe was customised for Carrefour.
*
Physically, X20K has a rectangle base while the X28K has an oval base. If I am not mistaken, the remote control is also different. Not sure whether there is any difference on the onscreen settings.

rclxms.gif thanks for the info....
how long normally can extend the warranty? what is the price?
*
You can choose another 1 year or 2 years. The cost depends on your tv type and size. When you key in your tv serial number, they will know how much to quote you.

I was brief by the shop sales person that panny warranty does not cover transport. Meaning if your 50" is faulty, you will have to bring that TV to the nearest panny service center. Whereas SenQ sales person said their warranty covers everything, from the point to take your faulty unit to the service center, everything involved in the repair, and then bring back to the place the pickup, put back to the state it is when they collect it..... is this true?

I asked the panny person during the Vierra road show, in the bus. They keep saying they do not know details of the warranty...  sweat.gif

The extended warranty purchased from the shops are actually from an insurance company. It is like buying insurance for the 3rd, 4th and 5th year. In the event the tv is faulty, call the insurance toll free or helpdesk number provided in the insurance form and quote your insurance form number for repairs. Or you can call the shop where you bought the extended warranty, they can call the insurance on your behalf since they have all your record when you purchase the tv from them.
The insurance company will call Panasonic to attend to the fault. Panasonic will charge the insurance company for the repairs + house call.
I was told this is how the extended warranty works (from the shop). I am not sure it works this way in a real situation.

Yup, I bought it from SenQ Sunway yesterday. Panasonic Plasma 42 inch (model: TH-P42X28K) with 3 years warranty, it is manufactured in Singapore. So far this is the lowest price I saw and I bought it immediately. Not sure if it is still consider a new model but I can live with that.
*
This is very cheap. Better make sure it is not a display set.

This is second last unit while the display set still hanging there.  tongue.gif Not a display set, still in a box when I check out. Hopefully they won't con me  shocking.gif
*
Better do a check on the number of hours it has.
You never know what happen. They can clean up a display unit and put back in the box and keep together with the other units. They will hope that the buyer does not know how to check if the unit has been on display or not.
I hope this is not the case.

I am interested in the budget plasma category 50". Which of the three manufacturer's product represent the most value for money? it seems all three has its own strengths and flaws.

1) Samsung PS50C430
2) Panasonic TH-P50X20K
3) LG 50PJ350R

Any views on this or are all of you Panasonic Plasma's die hards?
icon_rolleyes.gif

Since there are only 3 choices for you to choose, it is better for you to compare them with your own eyes and ears.
You have your own preferences while others have their own.
Some prefer Samsung because it has more features than the others.
Some prefer LG because of its price.

As you have mentioned, all three has its own strengths and flaws, which one do you like most?

HeHeHe, if you are a fan of one brand, then no need to ask for recommendation. Just go and buy that brand and be happy with your new purchase.

By the way guys, need help. I played some TVB DVDs ( The series on Astro Demand, But I bought DVDs). The aspect ratio is not correct. I tried adjusting. But cant. 16:9 still cut them off at the head. How to rectify this? Does not happen with other DVDs. I have tested.
*
On the aspect ratio, set to just.
Go to Mian Menu - Setup - Other Settings - 16:9 Overscan - try ON or OFF.
