P50VT20 review

"Whilst it doesn't hit the absolute black levels of the reference Kuro plasma, the VT20 is a mighty fine 2D TV which adds in the benefit of reference 3D playback. Its super clean images, excellent dynamic range and 3D experience, is going to win over many AV Fans."

it won't be as good as krp-500 but i'm sure it's not twice as good than v50 either. Taking into account that krp500 cost twice as much

VT comes close to KRPs (colour accuracy), the Vs I don't believe will come close. I think if Panny continues to progress this way, there is a possibility they will hv a set that will be known as the kings next year (it will be only the highest end set that they put out, the price will be in the region of the best as well). This year's VTs are priced similar to the KRPs at the end of life. To implement some of the improvements, means money.

V50 or 50VT20?

This thing about a set priced twice needing to be twice as good depends on what the buyer is looking for. If u r looking for a display and u hv a budget then look for one within ur budget.

There are reasons why some sets are more expensive than others. However, if the reasons do not justify the price in ur eyes, it does not really matter. Its ur money , buy what u like.

I doubt its anything to do with THX. Let's wait for the professional reviews and see. The 50V20 is supposedly priced at ~6K and the VT is priced ~ 13k. While some of it is due to the 3D, the others are probably due to panel improvements. Then again, I could be wrong. Let's wait and see.

The VT series uses faster decaying phosphors so people who see phosphor trailing on plasmas shd consider that.

Also with the faster decaying phosphors, the black levels could be different.

I hope I am wrong that Panny did not cripple the V series more in order to justify a higher end VT series. But business sense seems to point that they will do it, in order to promote 3D.

Samsung do produce good plasma in terms of picture clarity, USB connectivity and pixel correction but I somehow trust Panasonic's durability & service response.
Chances that u have 2 diff sets of TV to compare next to each other at home is remote; therefore, go for the bigger model i.e. 50" which is cheaper some more!
Irrespective of Panasonic / Samsung, our eyes tend to attune to the only set that you watch at home everyday and you'll like its quality and fell in love with it; just like woman.

I have compared both 42" and 50" panasonic side by side with their BRay demo disk and was amazed that the new 50" show no difference in terms of color clarity / depth.
Usually the 40" show better clarity / deeper color (RGB) but somehow the new 50" show now difference as compared to the 40"; meaning, no lost of clarity and depth.
If your viewing distance suits 50", you'll regret later if you decided for the 40".

Package TV price is always more attractive and if you decided not to take the freebies, there is no price advantage.
My workout price of RM4,1xx for the TV alone is merely psychological in nature to please own decision.

Received P50U20K yesterday after 1week placed order but the Bluray Player BD45 is still outstanding.
TV does not come with S-Video input (if you are still using non Astro Beyond Decoder).
Quite reflective but tolerable if you control your room light.
Since no Bluray player, tested TV with my existing Pioneer DVD upscale to 1080i and quality out-performed my previous 720p 42" plasma.
Tested Avatar, Transformer and Last Samurai with room light off and TV produce excellent clarity. Wonder if I need to switch to Bluray??
TV sound is quite impressive on Astro.
As mentioned earlier, if you have no 50" to compare side by side, the quality improves day by day and you'll fell in love with; just like woman.

i may be misinformed or probably i didnt do my research but the impression is that panasonic has and still giving malaysians the low end (is this the right word) of the lineup spectrum in terms of spec etc. (well, i guess its the same as in cars and bikes..sigh).

wish 3-5 years down the road, this would change..

That is what make me frustrated last year, where they did not release 50V here in malaysia.
So I decide not to wait for mid-high end panasonic model this year.
