Hello everybody!
I'm new to the Plasma TV. I've been using CRT TV up till now. Had LCD monitors for computer. I would like to get a Plasma TV for my parents.

I've been reading on Panasonic models and had been interested on P42S10, but sadly, i come to know it's discontinued. Then came P42S28K

Where do i start from? What do i need to know?
Could you guys kindly give some advice?

Thanks in advance smile.gif

x28 has max resolution 720p, pretty good price they are selling now, but beware of the potential "rising black" feature brows.gif

Some questions:

(a) Does your parents have to see movies in HD?
(b) Are you willing to invest significantly in HD movies (eg Blueray Discs) for your parents?
© Does your parents play PS3 or XBOX 360?
(d) Is the CRT TV broken?

If all "No", then I suggest your parents stick with the CRT TV until it's broken because there is not much HD media content in the country yet.

For me, HD panels is still a luxury that only gadget enthusiast likes to play around with.

Of course, if your parents are savvy enough to BT contents from the net, that's a whole different story ... biggrin.gif

Edited: Astro is still best viewed with a CRT TV.

The decision to buy or not is ultimately left to the consumer. After researching, observing, hearing, learning from others mistake etc etc he/she makes a informed decision to buy.
By the way bro, I think you may have contradicted yourself. In the first para you said "most consumers make informed decisions" & in the last para you said "most people are not informed consumers".

Thanks
Most consumers do not have the privilege of talking in forums, thus, not informed. That is not contradicting.

So, when the average consumer hears from the sales man everything he needs to know and is happy with it, what to do few months down the road, the black becomes grey?

How can the aveage consumer "see the future"?

I said "may have contradicted" not "have contradicted".

Anyway now I think you have contradicted yourself.

Who can "see the future" bro.

Thanks

There is no P42S28K for 2010. For that matter there is no S models for 2010.

If you are looking for a HD Ready model, take a look at the A & X series.

If you are looking for a FullHD model, take a look at the V series. The V series have a 42" FullHD.

Thanks

Huh? How did I contradict myself? Cannot understand your feeble explanation.

Or shall we, as you say, cross the bridge when we reach it?

Bro I think your power of comprehension is a bit weak.

In this discussion, cross the bridge means:-
you have crossed it & finds that TV is turning Grey.

So what you do. Find a solution. This is what I said in my Post No:349 below:-

I think what "reddevil04" meant was why worry over a thing that might or might not happen. Only when it does happened then cross the bridge to find the solution.

What's the solution? What I said in Post No: 357 below:-

{The decision to buy or not is ultimately left to the consumer. After researching, observing, hearing, learning from others mistake etc etc he/she makes a informed decision to buy.

So if it happens, then report to the Consumer Tribunal, all the relevant gov departments, sue the fellow, even report to the police if applicable. I will do that if it happens to me & I have done it in the past a couple of times.

So if it does not happens, then sit back & enjoy lah"

It is the Consumer decision as I write in para 1. No one is force to buy. It is the Consumer who makes the FINAL decision & whether that decision is a good one or not, he/she is the one who makes the FINAL decision.}

(My interpretation of "informed decision" in the above para in red is "the consumer is informed by researching, observing, hearing, learning from others mistake etc etc")

So "So it happens" in bold in one of the above para means the TV turned Grey.

Bro want to continue this kind of discussion until the cows come home? smile.gif

Thanks

My comprehension is not weak, it is just that I cannot comprehend your bad grammar and spelling. Eg.

you have crossed it & finds that TV is turning Grey

Only when it does happened then cross the bridge to find the solution

makes a informed decision to buy

So if it does not happens, then sit back & enjoy lah

No one is force to buy.

Now your comprehension is confirmed weak. And I guess you are an English teacher, no?

"you have crossed it & finds that TV is turning Grey"

The above is not meant to be a proper sentence. If it was meant to be a proper sentence I would have properly framed it. So are the others.

I also do not want to repeat again & again.

I was referring to my previous post where if you have to cross the bridge (makes an informed decision & it turns out to be a bad decision). That is you expect the TV black level to be sustainable but after a short period it turns grey.

Looks like you like this kind of discussion to carry on & on until the cows never come home. By all means bro. I have all the time in the world. Everyday is a holiday for me. As long as we keep to within the boundary of not offending each others character.

Anyway it's a good mental exercise for me.

Thanks

got my 42" panny yesterday! din expect it to look so big in my living room! hehe smile.gif very happy about it. can't test much about it yet coz i dun have astro installed yet, no blueray player and no gaming console like xbox or ps3... so far juz connect it to my laptop, so far so good and it looks great smile.gif

however one thing that i find a little disappointed to be honest is the warranty part... on the fifth page of the manual... it writes "Do not display a still picture for a long time"... "This causes the image to remain on the plasma screen ("image retention"). "This is NOT considered a malfunction and is NOT covered by the warranty".... this is so disappointing to me... i mean so many have claimed that plasma technology have improved over the years and have resolve the IR/burn-in issue, if so how come panny is reluctant or afraid to provide such warranty?

appart from the warranty disappointment i am very happy and satisfied with the tv that i bought biggrin.gif

Added on April 25, 2010, 7:15 pmby the way, anyone can share wat is the best configuration/settings for P42X28K? Brightness, contrast, Sharpness, color etc...? thanks

I am glad to hear you are very happy with your TV. Hope you will enjoy it to the fullest.

I am using the P42S10K bought in Dec 2009. What I did was to set the brightness & contrast settings to 50 with eco mode off & watch whatever with these settings for the first 200 hours.

Exceeded 1000 hours already. So far no IR/Burn-In problem whatsoever. And also no deterioration in black level whatsoever. Black is as black as it can be. After watching for the day, will "wash" the screen for 30 mins (timer set) & to auto shut off.

Thanks

jitbeng,

I'm happy to hear that ur black levels are not elevating. Maybe the Asian non neo-PDPs are not effected. However, how do u determine that? Are u using any reference tools? Or based on some pictures that u snapped or just by eye?
