I also waited for Pana 2010 model until I saw the 50U20k during recent fair, the dark scene is not dark enough. Not to discredit Pana, but Samsung is better for similar price range. In off mode, you can see the display is milky black. However, the price is attractive, fair price RM4.9k for 50" TV and FHD.

In what way? I'm planning on getting the x28, so please share what you know. Which model do you have and how did you determine the x10 to be better. thanks in advance.

In off mode my Plasma Panasonic is not milky black but a bit greenish.

When on mode, I froze a scene whereby the girl's black hair & shirt were as black as the frame of my TV.

When viewing dark scene, the scene is as dark as it can be.

I am 110% satisfied with my TV.

Thanks

50U20K is already here? Which fair were you referring to?

U series is FHD but moving resolution is 900 lines ... whatever that means ... compared to S10K's 1080 lines.

@ HOMEDEC fair @ PISA Penang.

Seems like U series is lower than S series. Not sure why Pana didn't bring new S series into Bolehland, perhaps price point is the strategy.

Astro's PQ is far beter on a plasma than LCD or LED using non-beyond. That is proven. Even on beyond, its only 5 or 6 channels that is digital, the rest I think is the same analogue as the non beyond. Correct me if I am wrong.
*
In my personal observations and I conclude that, there's NO outright answer as to which is better. And I believe we are of no authority to make claims
just based on our own judgment and flavour on PQ, understanding between Plasma, LCD and LED technology and why previous models have this features and current ones don't. This sometimes confuse and complicate our decision. There are also other factors that may play a part in your viewing pleasure like ambience light, placement of the unit against natural light and so forth.

I believe all the opinions here are valid in their own way coming from the owners. Take these as a reference point and considerations when making your comparisons or making that decision. At the end of the day, you make the call and you should be happy and not worry with your set, whatever the technology maybe. Best way is narrow down your shortlist brand and models, then look at affordability, value for money, after sales service and etc.

I'm a user of P42X28K and I dunno much about LG 42PQ30R in terms of Picture Quality (PQ) when comparing side by side. I believe both are about the same
in terms of specifications. No distinct specification difference. However, judging from appearance, one may prefer the former over the latter or vice versa, and this could be from the overall design that may capture one's attention.

If you want to really know the outcome, then compare both side by side with source from Bluray and Astro, then you'll probably find the answer you are looking for. You may also want to research abit on after sales service to help you to nail your decision.

As for the former model, P42X28K, the base stand now is swivel type where it can be angle about 15 degree on either side. This is not available on previous X series. Sound quality is mediocre, nothing to shout about. Normal volume setting is around 30 -32 with viewing distance approx 9 feet. And 80% of the viewing time is on Astro
Byond, then remaining time is a mixture of DVD and PS3. However, there is a difference in PQ for Astro Byond box and the normal box and I believe it could be the HDMI vs the RCA.

what do you do when you make your decision after comparing a few models. You choose the one with a very dark black. Then after a few months, the black becomes grey.

What to do now?

Anyone else can verify that the beyond box gives better quality than the normal box even for analogue channels?

Cross the bridge when you come to it. Why think of how when you are not there yet. smile.gif Anyway, I believe this is not across the board thing. I'm willing to take that risk and cross the bridge when I come to it.

Yesterday i was looking at both P42X28K beside 42PQ30R, LG has got a brighter colors, not tooo sure about moving pictures coz the display contents was from LG and it seems to be focusing on showing off its vivid colors. However when i check at the back of both panels, realised that LG has got additional 4 more AV inputs (16) compared to Panny (12)... also LG has got a more appealing universal USB port compared to the SD card on Panny...

Personally i prefer the brand of Panny over LG for trust and reputation established over the years... not sure whether are they stil that good? or LG has now catch up, or even overtaken Panny?

huh? Can we apply that same brilliant reasoning for the following analogy....

A girl says she is scared of going down that lonely lane cause she has heard there were lots of rape cases in that lane. You going to say, "cross the bridge when you come to it,"

Well, that's the thing. everyone has his own way of seeing things. Some may be detail, while some may differ. So, I won't argue with that. Anyway, I strongly believe that you have all the right to question and seek the answers as the money is in your pocket. To me, I just share the my decision and how I came to that.
