btw kherel have u came out with the expected price/budget for that build?

the 1 by paskal looks imba but i think its not my level. lol.

it's around RM600 excluding HDD of your choice. Maybe i'll go with Seagate SV35 or WD Red as mine is planning to running 24/7....

if you have bajet, it's good to add asus hdav1.3 soundcard because this card have excellent video processing...i bought mine cheap and used from lowyat.. it will give a significant enhancement when watching rip video on tv... i dont have blueray drive so i don't know if this will give any diffrence though.. and one more thing, keep in mind hdmi version in hdav is 1.3, so there maybe limitation especially in gaming, but not sure... use my htpc just for surf, playback and light gaming.. so far so good...

i've used it for a number of years previously. it's one of the cheapest card that will bitstream hd audio.
no issue on the playback as even a low powered raspberry pi is able to handle 1080p movies. and that's a 5W computer.

For VLC & Media Player Classic maybe useful for hardware acceleration.

Hi everyone.. I am thinking about building my new htpc to replace my old gaming htpc.. which i am selling soon.. my old htpc spec :

Asus M4A785-TD Evo
AMD Phenom II X4 925 2.8Ghz
Sapphire ATI HD 5850
4 GB (2x2GB) DDR3 RAM
Western D Caviar Green 500GB
Kworld PVR TV134SE TV card
CoolerMaster 550W PSU

I am planning to build fanless, low power consumption, almost 0% noise htpc.. after marriage, no more time to play games.. sob sob.. therefore now I just want a simple PC, which can be use to watch youtube, Kodi streaming movies, web browsing, simple Photoshop editing.. now I think of 2 options.. first is this :

OPTION A
ASUS J1900I-C Mini-ITX Motherboard for Intel (Build in CPU)
ADATA Premier Pro 32GB 2.5' SSD (SP600)
ADATA 4GB DDR3L 1600Mhz Short Dimm Low Voltage 1.35v Notebook Ram

which translate roughly around RM584.06 (price based on a Lelong seller).. but still no PSU and casing..

other 1 is

OPTION B
Intel Next Unit of Computing System (NUC) DN2820FYKH Mini PC
ADATA Premier Pro 32GB 2.5' SSD (SP600)
ADATA 4GB DDR3L 1600Mhz Short Dimm Low Voltage 1.35v Notebook Ram

which is roughly around RM821.50 (same lelong seller), but with supplied AC/DC adapter, NUC casing, and intel wifi..

which one do you think is a better choice?? Option A or Option B? my budget is under RM1K..

If I go for Option A, where do I can get in Malaysia a:

1) Mini itx casing with DC power board built in
or
2) Pico PSU

I would like to get zero noise from the system, therefore a fanless PSU or DC in board is a must..

Thanks for your help everyone!!!

You should also consider AMD AM1 mobo + Athlon or Sempron Kabini CPU.
Low power similar to Intel J1900 but with more GPU performance.

For PSU, i recommend Pico Box as an alternative to PicoPsu. Easier to get. Shipping is free from Hong Kong.

Or this case, Gigabyte MIB T5140. With built in PSU board + 65watt power adapter. Currently I'm using one, no prob so far.

Thanks for your suggestion.. I just research and found J1900c do beat the AMD A50 in certain benchmark score..

http://www.cpu-monkey.com/en/compare_cpu-i...s-amd_e_350-204

as for the casing, i do manage to find local penang seller.. Gtech solution.. the price quoted is quite competitive.. I think generic China E-Q08 casing..
Attached Image

the casing spec :

E-Q08 Aluminum MITX Casing (Thickness 3.5mm)
HDD:
MAX M/B Heatsink Height: 343mm, Install 1*3.5" HDD or 2*2.5HDD;
M/B Heatsink Height Under 46mm, Install 2*2.5" HDD;
Power Supply: 120W DC-DC Board (LR1204)and 12V/5A AC Adapter
Dimension: 200*70*225 mm (W*H*D)
Weight N.W. 1.25KG

The Gigabyte T5140 really caught my eyes last time.. looks like a proper DVD/Bluray player.. how about the AC adapter? Is it supplied together? Since I want to build a fanless system, does the PSU/DC board on that casing includes fan as well? I want to eliminate all fan noise, thus the reason going for fanless HTPC design this time..

Actually im not referring to the AMD E series but the AMD Kabini AM1 CPU.
http://www.techspot.com/review/806-amd-kab...el-bay-trail-d/

I used to own Asrock q1900b-ITX but sold it after few months.

T5140 last time i bought second hand. The DC board has no fan. Bundled with 60watt FSP level 5 Power Adapter.

I see many miniPCs around 500bux running Windows 8.1 with 4K capability.

Are these good enough for HTPC ?

Planning to build a htpc.
But too lazy to build from scratch. Hehe

Anybody have any comment on using Intel nuc 5th gen to use as htpc?

I I plan to solely run kodi and streaming movies from my nas.

Any feedback is much appreciated.

basically, it's a laptop intel CPU. Should be fine unless you have specific requirements...ex: outputing Dolby Digital+ from NETFLIX to AVR using Intel GPU is not possible. If just normal usage should be fine. And always stream using wired LAN connection, especially HD rips > 8GB.
