Planning to build a htpc. But too lazy to build from scratch. Hehe
Anybody have any comment on using Intel nuc 5th gen to use as htpc?
I I plan to solely run kodi and streaming movies from my nas.
Any feedback is much appreciated.

QUOTE(Matrix @ Jun 15 2015, 09:02 AM) basically, it's a laptop intel CPU. Should be fine unless you have specific requirements...ex: outputing Dolby Digital+ from NETFLIX to AVR using Intel GPU is not possible. If just normal usage should be fine. And always stream using wired LAN connection, especially HD rips > 8GB. Hi matrix, thanks for reply. yeah currently running wired connection to my android box, so once i get the NUC i will trash my android box hehehehe you cannot output dolby digital plus from netflix, but what about my movie files from my NAS? DTS master HD can decode? thanks

QUOTE(chokia @ Jun 16 2015, 12:57 PM) All these links on this search sound not promising https://www.google.com/webhp?sourceid=chrom...NUC%2C+DTS+HDMAeven on intel forum https://communities.intel.com/message/221266So instead of spending 1K + on NUC, we shall buy China cheap windows 8.1 mini PC then http://www.lazada.com.my/voyo-win-81-mini-...ry-1074943.htmlWaddaya think? Looks good. only missing is the network jack.

I think you were referring to the 4th gen intel nuc. the link i shown is for the 5th gen intel nuc, after googling it seems they can support dts-ma and dolby trueHD. now i just need to find money hehehe

QUOTE(beep beep @ Jun 21 2015, 03:01 AM) Hi, looking to buy intel nuc-5i3ryh. Mainly for hd ripped / ISO bd movies and online streaming. Can anyone confirm this model can pass thru dts-ma and Dolby truehd? Will be running windows 7 or 8. I recon software like kodi is best to play media files? Googling doesn't help much on this model. Thx earlier i also had interest on the intel nuc 5i3ryh. but the price is just too much (for me) to spend on a box. i think including rams and ssd about RM1.6k to Rm1.7k Waiting for price to come down hehehee Not sure if DTS-Ma and Dolby trueHD works. but it should work This post has been edited by wliat: Jun 25 2015, 02:36 PM

QUOTE(beep beep @ Jun 25 2015, 06:19 PM) Thanks for replying. Must use ssd? Does it works on conventional 2.5"? I have some extras lying around. Agree the price is not competitive after adding other parts. Is lowyat plaza a good place to try them out since will be there for KLIAV Cheers from what i read on the internet, best you to get SSD, if not you will have lag using the interface. http://mymediaexperience.com/first-htpc-tips/the link above is a pretty good read for beginners building their htpc
