QUOTE(hvaly @ Dec 6 2010, 03:16 PM) hi i am newb here, been searching through the forum but cant find a good answer I am planning to build a HTPC using my old pc connect to new LED TV my Rigs: E6600, 3GB RAM, Sapphire HD 4850 Now my problem is : 1. Could my 4850 output sound at TV via its DVI to HDMI output ? since my sapphire 4850 only got 2 DVI output, i planning to use the DVI to HDMI converter to enjoy the 1080p quality Sample output port of my GC 2. If No.1 is not possible to output audio via DVI, what else can i do ? Yes you can. I use to do that 1 or 2 years back. But beware of the HDMI-DVI converter. I use the one that comes with the box, works fine. If you buy outside, some might not transmit audio properly.

QUOTE(kopking10 @ Dec 16 2010, 08:59 AM) yes went n have a look at it last nite...easier package. thanks for those who has helped. I have gotten the spec i required. Btw, i have a set of 5.1 home theater speaker NOT pc 5.1. May i know how to connect to PC since they are running the black n red cables? Look for optical-in or coaxial-in on your AVR. Your mobo/souncard usually has at least one of these optical out or coaxial out.

QUOTE(stan001 @ Dec 20 2010, 01:13 PM) For PSU, pls get those high efficiency 80PLUS with Active PFC rating with bigger silent fan (140mm) I'm a fan of Xigmatek powersupply for their "green/environmental friendly" for both the recycle paper packaging and high energy efficiency.. 400W or 500W will depend on yr HTPC requirements as power supply unit will last the longest compared to cpu/memory/mobo/hdd/lcd.. Added on December 20, 2010, 1:19 pmSome comments... Pls be aware the i3 is a "fake" dual core ( it is only 2 thread instead of 2 CPU core, ) the i5 is a real dual core cpu like the Core 2 Duo. If you plan for 2 x 1GB memory, might as well go for 1 x 2GB and later upgrade another 2Gb to make it 4GB. What about a "decent" graphic processor like nVidia or ATI for HD video decoding ? What cock you tock? i3 IS dual core. Don't simply spread lies. i5 on the other hand has 2 cores/4 threads model and 4 cores model. And hypertreading is not 'fake cores'. This term is usually used by jealous AMD fanboys. HT or not, the performance is on par or better than equivalent AMD cpu's. And oh yeah, new AMD Bulldozer also taking same route with Hyperthreading aka 'fake cores' as you call it. This post has been edited by Matrix: Dec 20 2010, 02:09 PM

QUOTE(stan001 @ Dec 30 2010, 10:33 AM) WOW... this fellow Win 7 "NEVER CRASH BEFORE" .... I'm impressed.... Bill Gates & Microsoft would be very proud of you... the should send you a "user award" for your statement.. As i always said....USER PROBLEM. Too many people who dunno how to use computer...and then they blame MS.

QUOTE(prasys @ Jan 11 2014, 02:34 PM) Does your TV support ARC ? If so , you don't have to worry Just make sure your HITB and your TV supports ARC ! With ARC , you can return back 5.1 surround. Of course it does only work with DD 5.1 , it will not work with DTS-HD , etc It's possible , read about bluestacks Creative cards seem to do this , thats your other option http://www.creative.com/oem/partner/auzent...metheaterhd.aspPlus you could use DDL or DTS Connect to make any programs to output as 5.1/7.1 surround , which means you can enjoy gaming in 5.1/7.1 if you have new amp with hdmi input, no need creative card..the games can send 5.1 or 7.1 sound directly. one advice for new builders: if you wish to watch Netflix with Dolby Digital+ sound. Intel HD DOES NOT WORK. You must use either AMD or Nvidia cards (probably the newer gen). HD 6450 works just fine. Even older Gtx460 also can work. i guess AMD apu will work since the gpu works.

QUOTE(acegreaser @ Jan 8 2014, 02:29 AM) Thanks paskal. I've been trying to find information on these HD 6xxx cards but can't conclusively see if that ANY HD6xxx card will output DTS HD MA or Dolby TrueHD. I know I may be a little fussy here, but half the joy is seeing that DTS HD Master or TrueHD light come on on the AV receiver. I went to Asus' website and there's no info. Sapphire's website shows some has it and some doesn't say. AMD's website simply says all HD 6xxx GPU chip will support DTS HD and TrueHD. Am I safe to buy ANY 6xxx card? still shopping? most likely any 6450 will work...bought an Msi 6450 for rm129 recently.

QUOTE(wliat @ Jun 14 2015, 11:15 PM) Planning to build a htpc. But too lazy to build from scratch. Hehe Anybody have any comment on using Intel nuc 5th gen to use as htpc? I I plan to solely run kodi and streaming movies from my nas. Any feedback is much appreciated. basically, it's a laptop intel CPU. Should be fine unless you have specific requirements...ex: outputing Dolby Digital+ from NETFLIX to AVR using Intel GPU is not possible. If just normal usage should be fine. And always stream using wired LAN connection, especially HD rips > 8GB.
