Well, I don't know if it has been released officially, but I got my copy as a diwali gift from Eros directly. They're a client of mine.
VideoOm Shanti Om makes its way on to Bluray with a nice 1080p/VC-1 encoding, framed in a 2:35:1 aspect ratio. Every frame is as vibrant and colorful as when I saw it in the theater, if not more. Especially the "movie premiere" scene where Shanti gets out of the car. You can see every fiber on the red carpet, and every individual sparkle of each jewel on her hand. The use of colors in this film really show off on blu-ray. The "popping" effect is very apparent in this film, due to it's pristine quality. Even if you're not a fan of hindi movies, this film is just visually awe-inspiring. The film grain is still intact, so you still feel as if you're watching a movie, as opposed to something shot with a handycam. I, personally, think this has "reference quality" transfer written all over it. If this is how Eros plans on transferring all of their blu-ray's, then they are definitely on to something.
AudioThe 5.1True HD track is fairly good. It suffers the same problem that I noticed with "Saawariya". At reference volume, everything sounded fine (the dialogue track was a little low, but bearable), but when the music came on, everything went into overdrive. I had to turn it down a few notches. There is very good use of all 6 speakers, lot of rear sounds, and seamless integration between all of them. But my only problem was the dialogue was a little low, and the music was pretty high, but then again, maybe they meant for that.
ExtrasI thought the extras sucked when I first received the Blu-Ray. When I put in the player, there was only 1 extra, besides the commentary, but after watching it, they pretty much combined all the extras on the original 2 disc DVD into one full track. I would've liked it if they had it broken up, so I didn't have to watch the whole thing just to get to the blooper reel, but I'm not complaining. I usually don't buy movies just for the extra, in fact, I hardly ever watch the extras, so I'm definitely not complaining about the fact that the extras are in standard def.
All in all, amazing movie, almost "reference material", and if it's ever released officially, definitely pick this one up. Whether you're a fan of hindi movies, or just want to try something different, this has what it takes. I mean, how many hindi movies have made it to the top 10 U.S Box Office? Check this one out, that's all I have to say.
