Highly possible it's region-locked.

Anyway, initially retailers were told by the studio that they were not allowed to have "exclusive" versions of the movie (including steelbooks), which fueled speculation at the time that the studio may be releasing the 3D version which may have included 3D specs, hence requiring special packing. Now that the studio has put out that they're not planning to release a 3D version of Avatar at least until the technology matures, perhaps it's possible that the studio is giving retailers some leeway to releasing steelbook versions of Avatar. So far, only UK and Denmark versions have surfaced. So it's not inconceivable that eventually we may see a US-version steelbook as well. Well, I'm hoping so anyway.

I have Best Buy's steelbook of This Is It. However, take note that it is DVD-sized, so it's larger than standard blu-ray casing, sticks out like a sore thumb in my collection. Not happy.

Ended up getting the Speedy one too. sad.gif

p/s : thanks bighead.

dude, what are the differences between the Speedy version and the one bought from Best Buy?
I only have the Speedy version, got fed up when I found out that there were a zillion different versions of This Is It
*
Just the size of the steelbook. the best buy version is a dvd-sized casing (i.e. bigger) whereas the Speedy one is a proper blu-ray sized steelbook.

sound flat

i believe what htkaki said was that in certain climatic scenes, he expected "more oomphh" i.e. "the feeling u get when having a bulldozer plough through your AV room" kinda oomph.

hardly the same as saying it sounds flat.

where did you see got steelbox version?
*
errm ..... actually they're referred to as steelbook, not steelbox.

anyway, there are currently 3 known versions which have been announced:
(1) amazon.de has each of the 3 movies in separate steelbooks with different cover art for each
(2) best buy has a sticker-style steelbook version
(3) futureshop has a proper imprinted steelbook version

there could be more versions down the road, but as of now, i know of only these 3.

Avatar UK only cost RM85 per disc and shipped between 5 days. Is it worth buying? Anyone reckon this worth buying instead of US version which cost RM111 to be exact..

I think it has been repeated many times in this thread, and you being an active member here should have picked up on it as well. Does region-lock ring a bell?

Just curious... do you mean "the parts where it goes full screen is da awesome" as in:

1.  1.78:1 or 1.85:1 ratio that fits 16:9 tv in general

or

2.  the jawdropping clarity of IMAX full screen as seen partially in TF:RoTF & The Dark Knight?
hmm.gif

I believe Mr. Ho is referring to the former. Some ppl are averse to black bars like some are to nipples on BD case.
