lol I damn stress study for it coz the lecture is... you know... haha. The actual test itself is not as difficult as expected, but didn't expect the Easter Egg to appear at the end of it.

Hello all smile.gif
Well, today I got my admission from Nottingham Malaysian campus for February term smile.gif (In BSc of electronics and computer engineering)
Since it's the first time I'm going to a foreign country,I've got few questions
1_I've heard that since the bachelor degree is 3 years old(compared to almost all universities in Malaysia which are 4 year)you can't apply for jobs when you finished your study,is that right ?
The same question is for the Master program, can i apply for other universities in Malaysia when i finish my bachelor studies? Or I have to study some courses before doing it ?

2_It may be funny but I know nothing about Malay language(I'm Persian),is it easy to communicate with other students in English or I have to learn Malay language ?

3_Are you guys overall satisfied with the university ?

Sorry for the long question, but I've to know more about there before making my final decision.
Thanks smile.gif

1. I'll leave it to the rest to clarify.

2. Sure. English has got a 99% penetration in this university, the remaining 1% goes to the cleaners hired from Indonesia.

3. Yeap, loving it.

1. It depends on your country but talking about here you can get a job just that the route to become a Professional Engineer is harder as Professional Bodies that are part of the Washington Accord wants you to have 4 years of education in Engineering and again I don't know about your country.
Yeah you can use it to apply to Masters programmes. As a qualification to become a PEng, the 3 year BEng is not enough but as an academic qualification it's recognized enough.

2. People coming to study in Nottingham mostly have acceptable levels of English so don't worry, the level of English penetration is quite high.

Hi Maziar,

Regarding the jobbing opportunities between a 3 years and 4 years, I think your referral (who let you know about Nottingham Malaysia, your friends or agents?) might have some clues about it. Or he/she won't be in a position to recommend us to you in the first instance, isn't it?
Anyway, for EE or its related, just for your information, the Intel plant in Malaysia doesn't really care about you being 3 or 4 years.
To be honest, the thing you might worry more could be the jobbing opportunities due to your nationality (there are bound to have companies that prefer locals over internationals), and perhaps your language (incompetence in Malay).

Hey,thanks for the reply smile.gif
Well,I actually have no referees,I was searching for Private English universities in Malaysia and I found Nottingham.
I read in few Persian forums that jobs are limited for international students and almost all companies prefer local students than internationals(just like you mentioned)

Thus, I don't think it is wise for you to plan out a career in Malaysia as it would seem unlikely at the moment. You can still prefer yourself working in Malaysia though, but do have a backup plan if you fail to secure a job here.

yes it is limited. in Malaysia its very hard for you to get a working visa or something similar.

last time when an indonesian colleague was working in my office, my boss issued all the cheques under her boyfriend's name. even in our publications, there was no mention of her name whatsoever.

Thanks for the idea biggrin.gif

By the way just want to ask is there a provision saying that as long as you fail a core module you definitely need to resit it or there is no such thing at all?

And afaik the marks of reassessed modules are not counted into final degree classification.

So does this mean it is counted as:

(total marks of first sit modules) / (total number of first sit modules)

OR

(total marks of first sit modules) / (total number of ALL modules)

If it's the latter then I GG....

In my department, it's about collecting 100 out of 120 credits and at least 50% average, then you can progress for Honours degree. If you fail that, then it's ordinary degree (no honour) for you. That's my department though, not sure if it applies uni-wide.

Yep there is a regulation saying that as long as you fit certain criterias you can compensate and pass.

I believe it's regulation 10 of Undergraduate regulations.

But what I'm concerned is in my post (edit above), please refer.
