hi, is there any required attire to wear during class time?
maybe need to do some shopping before going in tongue.gif

There's no imposed dressing code. It's all entirely up to you. But I'd advise to dress decently.

QUOTE(keivin1991 @ Mar 1 2010, 10:25 PM)
the offer letter i received states that

Full time - KPT/JPS (F3-K026)4/11

so which is my student number ??

seniors help me ~~
*
I don't think that's the student number. It looks more like the course code.

Why do you need student number? I believe when you accept the offer, you gotta include the application reference number.

hey all, anyone know the date for December's study week?
*
http://www.nottingham.edu.my/Students/Cale...lendar0809.aspx
http://www.nottingham.edu.my/Students/Cale...lendar0910.aspx

08/09 academic year - Dec 29 - 7 Jan
09/10 academic year - Dec 21 - 10 Jan

So from the above, you can roughly determine the study week for the coming new academic year of 10/11

for 08/09, the study week only 1 week plus, for 09/10, the study week got 3 weeks.
hmm...hard to determine. When will 10/11 academic calendar out?
*
Oh, that's because in the 08/09 calendar they categorised term break and study week into two, whereas in the 09/10 calendar they merged it into 1 section. Therefore you can safely say that it's almost the same. The difference in total days is 3 days.

Therefore, based on that analysis, the 10/11 term break should be Monday, 27 December 2010 till Sunday, 2 January 2011. And the Study week would be Monday, 3 January 2011 till around 9th January. Exams should start +/- a few days from there.

It is to here my voyage for Jing Shen has reached..

Have you guys heard of him? blush.gif

Just wanted to inform everyone here regarding the student association elections.

Usually, many of us don't vote, because we don't feel a need to. Because it doesn't matter who get the positions, cause it doesn't affect us.

But that's kind of selfish don't you say? By not involving ourselves, that leaves most of the votes to popularity, instead of real capabilities. Therefore, most of the time the voices of the minority are drowned out.

Anyway, enough of the long rant. I have a suggestion for SA President, his name is Jing Shen. Most likely you have heard of him. His facebook group is here http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=76913709184

Within the group his experience and support are listed down. Determine for yourself if he is the right choice. If you think he his, by all means join the group, spread the word, and get your friends to vote together. Hope you don't throw away your right to vote. smile.gif

@rxy

What you say is partly true.
The past presidents have done things before. It’s just that they don’t really publicize it (in fact, not at all) that it totally slipped my mind to find out what they were doing. Coz it didn’t really matter to me, nor affected me. But thinking back now, some of the things I was able to do in UNMC was directly and indirectly related to the jobs they have carried out. However, I forgot about most of them. I guess if Mr. Tan Jing Shen turned out to be President, that's one piece of advice I would give him, that would be to publicize his achievements more sweat.gif

There's one thing I can remember though, there was a big fuss about the arrangement of buses, and the timetables, I personally was there to see them working their ass off and being all stressed out about it. And although it ain't perfect now, but it is functional and many students depend on it. Then there was the 24hr study rooms? I personally used it myself and found it to be very beneficial. Besides those, I don't really know, I guess much of it is in the background operations. Oh yeah SA food used to SUCK BIG TIME, now it's tremendously better, I was there to witness the change. Library is open till late night during exam periods? That's good too. I believe there're many other things which aren't really noticeable, cause I don't live on campus nor at TTS, and I don't spend much time on campus.

As for the exact changes that the President has brought, I won't be able to list them out because I wasn't in the team. Probably can ask the people that carried out the above changes that I mentioned, and then can ask them how did their President lead them during his term.

Did I change your perception by at least a little bit? By the way, besides bringing change (which can be a very subjective matter and might seem as lip service to some), there are certain compulsory roles and responsibilities of being an SA executive, they're listed here http://sa.nottingham.edu.my/Elections/Duti...0Executives.pdf

Well as I mentioned I don't really spend much time on campus, therefore I won't be able to share similar views as yours. But I'm sure that what you feel is what many others may feel. Go sound it out during the hustings, bombard them with questions and make sure they adhere to their own promises. Just a personal note, one of Jing Shen's plan is to provide constant updates on changes and decisions. The constant updates is not solely for the purpose of reporting, but rather, it's purpose is to gain valuable feedback in order to optimize SA decisions. And where do those valuable feedbacks come from? From students who need and want to see quality in changes and also improvements.

Also, coming back to the first point I mentioned about lack of publicity, I now think that it's due to a few people making decisions without really making their decisions or plans known clearly throughout the whole community. Therefore, one of Mr. Tan's plan is actually to appoint representatives from all schools to jointly have a say in some of the SA decisions, there I guess would at least mitigate some of the lack of transparency (or publicity).

Your statement actually brought me to the fact that I'm not really clear about the purpose of the SA being there. Thus, I did a search on Google and here's what I found http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Student_Association

It is an interesting read I would say.

Anyway back to point. Your predicament about unreplied emails I personally have encountered too. They kept sending out these 1MB/2MB/3MB pictures, coz either they didn't bother to resize the picture, or they totally don't know how. Till today after IT sent out that educational email, they are still doing it. FTW. I'll make sure to mention to Mr. Tan regarding replying all emails and probably determine how to set up a quick response team to on campus personal problems, coz that seems like one of the factors which cause students to start getting ill feelings about the SA.

About the tweaking efficiency, hmm.. I guess sometimes things are a bit disappointing but whatever the cause of it we won't really know. Could be financial, or lack of support, etc. I believe the SA is there to help alleviate some student problems have make some improvements to student lives, but it won't be fair to be making them accountable for not being able to fix the management's problems.

No wonder there's no email notifications from v2, moved to v3 dy lol.

That's Shangri-la price for you. lol

Last year for my team, Shangri-la was first in the strike-off list. lol . Too expensive, and the reception area so small, practically none. But the hall looked great though.

Guys-- coursework submission question. My deadline was 2pm today (Friday) but I missed it and office is closed now. So when I submit on Monday do I lose 5 marks or 10 marks? Saturday not working day right?
*
Confirmed:

5% of the marks. not 5 marks.

so if you get 50/100 it will be deducted to 47.5

This is because sat and sun are not working days.

Isn't there a pickup service?

Most couriers have it. Haven't tried it personally though.

I don't think there's any courier in Semenyih. Closest would be Kajang

Hmm, I don't think there would be any problem.

But do confirm with them over the phone first. On how to meet up and pass the parcel to the delivery guy, since you're on campus.

hoora ! the gym is available !!!

btw i asked the receptionist and he said just sign the book at the counter before going in the gym.

that's all right ?

and he told me that one must book the court in advanced..
however, some seniors told my frens that you could just jump in and play lol ..

can someone confirm this @@
*
I've been here for quite some time before I saw the notice requiring me to sign in at the gym. So there's a lack of control here I guess.

And, about the courts, of course you can just play anytime, but anyone who booked it in advance will have the right to kick you out. smile.gif

QUOTE(DJFoo000 @ May 5 2010, 07:07 PM)
^ hrmm... I have queries regarding the included internet connection and the weather. I asked before and was told it wasn't that quick. But since it's included in the payment, why isn't the quality any better? And is the night weather at the campus humid? Air-cond necessary? I don't have to sleep in a freezing cold room, just cool enough that I'm not sweating.

Basically am asking for recommendation for on-campus accommodation. Sharing bedroom, good idea? The notice at the entrance of one of the dorm buildings asking students to take care of their laptops is a bit worrying.
*
Regarding the internet connection, it's included into your fees, and it's the most basic speed, good enough for emails and general surfing. Definitely not for streaming or large downloads.

The weather can be good and gentle, but the room sometimes remain rather humid. You can buy a mini-fridge to store some favorite drinks before sleep, and an extra stand fan for days that are extra humid. If you have the cash, then you can buy those portable stand air-coolers.

Sharing bedroom depends on who you get as mates. It's a very subjective question. But should be fine though. About the laptops, hmm, well it's the same issue in any part of the world I guess. Can't answer you. Just be careful of your belongings, don't be a forgetful or careless person.

Hey guys, I've prepared an answer for ignorant people out there, lol.

Nottingham Malaysia is supposed to be an identical replica of the teaching standards in the UK.
Differences should only be reflected in the cultural and social aspects.

What Proof? I quote programs such as the MBA, and also other management courses provided by the Business School. The MBA delivered in Malaysia is no different in terms of accreditation by AMBA towards the program delivered at the main Nottingham campus. Also, the business school in Malaysia is recognized alongwith the main Nottingham campus in UK by the recent EQUIS accreditation. (see http://www.nottingham.edu.my/Faculties/Soc...ages/news.aspx)

So to those haters saying "this is the Malaysian campus only lah, not as good as the UK wan, don't waste time pay so much money go there..", please maintain status quo, so I can easily pick up all your lost opportunities in life.

---

So, with proof that the standards are high, as seen in the accreditation by leading bodies, and couple that with Nottingham's world top 100 ranking, why is it not the best university in Malaysia? The only other contender would be Monash, as it is also a quality institution sharing the same world top 100 ranking.
