Sorry for asking again but for the benefit of the forumers as well instead of a personal PM smile.gif I think I have the brightness changing bug in my 508xg when I use Cinema Advance... is there a firmware fix for this?

BDP320 only outputs as 480i, 480p, 1080i, 1080p. Don't think there is a 720p option or am I missing something or that's only for your famed Oppo 83?

Thanks for your patience

Not that I know of. The only way I found out that they fixed it, was when I found out that it did not seem to have the same problem in my friends newer 428XG. After some digging, there were some rumours that they fixed it on the later builds, if urs is under warranty u might want to get the Pioneer guys to come see it and if they acknowledge it, they might change the panel for u, or if they want to upgrade the firmware (I am not sure what the real problem was, it could be a board, panel or just firmware). But Pioneer never really acknowledged it.

If there is no option to go 720p, I would suggest trying 480i and see if the DVDs look good. However, if the brightness changes is irritating, u hv no choice but to go to 1080p. The brightness change bug, is something like the brightness would increase and decrease within 1 frame and would be ok. I also found that it did not happen on all DVDs, I believe it is something of a flag being not set correctly.

The 8Gs also had the bug that setting to Advance would reduce overall luminance, but thankfully, in the ISFccc modes, u can still easily get 40+ft/L with Pure Cinema Advance.

The 9Gs fixed all these.

This is odd. Thought having it on standby with a bit of current is good for electronics. Just like switching on/off your lights saves the earth but not so good for the bulbs.

I think it's ok if we have it on standby for short periods of time, eg, few hours in a day before we switch it off every night before going to bed. The problem is some people leave their tvs on standby mode 24/7 all year round.

I leave it on standby all year round. I do not agree with the technician. If that was the case, then the best way to prolong the lifetime would be to use the display sparingly as well...

beats me bro. but he is the approved technician. pioneer send him over, middle age uncle. came to my house complete with the big sponge to tip the tv over, and a box full with spare parts for current and old pioneer plasma tv model ( i saw 427 written all over).

i dunno the term, he is not your typical technician..he's sort like those licensed electrician or something and from the looks of it, someone that received training from pioneer tech.

in truth, after reading a lot of horror service support from other brands and my own exp, i half expected pioneer sending someone who will just look around for 5 minute, give up and say "gotta bring it back".

you really have to see how he wipes the tv bro...so tender..lol!

There is some truth to it because I have a friend who repairs TVs and according to him, many of the cases were due to the malfunction of a certain component in the TV that was caused by prolonged idling in standby mode. Anyway, that doesn't mean every single TV would face the same fate if put under the same conditions, as there is always going to be a variation from one to another. Different sets have different lifespans. Yours might just be the more robust piece of equipment.
But I would just try to stay on the safe side.

I find it odd because many eons ago there was no such thing as standby mode. It's either on or off. This mode came about because it 1) helps the bootup time 2) was said that small current through electronics actually PROLONG their lives. Not sure but probably related to expansion and contracting from heating up and cooling down.

But to save the planet I support switching off when going to bed icon_rolleyes.gif

Only problem was increased probability of lightning strike damage when on standby. Just in case u think UPS works, seems like in AVS forum got quite a few TVs got toasted despite of UPS. Safest is to unplug totally.

1.After the basis full auto MCACC setup how do we proceed to The Advanced MCACC?
2.Do we set the speakers size first then MCACC or after MCACC then set speaker size?

I did the auto MCACC, the speakers size always come out Large even I’m using KEF3005SE which are small 5.1 speakers. rclxub.gif After setting to small, when I run MCACC again it sets it back to large. mad.gif

3. What is the best sub crossover for a small room of 11’X14’, any how my input is 100HZ..any help in this area?

4. Another thing is, it sometime show my center speaker as Reverse Phase even the speaker are properly connected, it drive me nuts rclxub.gif .…I just ignore it and proceed with the calibration... tongue.gif

1. Cannot help you here, as I am not that familiar with the newer sets.

2. U can set the speakers sizes after MCACC, set them to small.

3. I'm confused with this. Are you asking for individual channel crossovers, what are ur speakers rated at?

4. Check ur wiring again, then re-run by purposely changing the phase on the wires. If the error goes away, there is a strong possibility that some internal wiring or labelling in the speaker or in the AVR is wrong. This would not be the 1st time. Also try hooking up another speaker and see if u get the phase problem to troubleshoot where the problem could be.

I'm planning to get an UPS too since black-out is weekly occurrence here. I'm somehow sure that UPS for PC is not really suitable for plasma/led, so I wondering if anyone know what to look for UPS of plasma/lcd tv. Its a Watt or something or just recommend some model that available here.
