Just asking, do chemical engineers do some sort of lab work like holding test tubes and mix chemicals or they just do large scale chemical projects right off?

Any job got risk bro. Usually the risk does not come from your field but from your boss.
I am from telco engineering. Last year they made me climb a tower w/o safety harness. Back then I was not aware, only know when others contractor scold me. So, pick a field where you can tahan for 1~2 years. But if you pick engineering, you can always work at unrelated field. Something only engineers can do. |

I want to add a tip.
Normally Engineering degree takes 4 year studies (Local, Aus, US, etc). However, if your based on UK's degree, 3 year is enough for bachelor. Then just do an extra year (total 4) and you can graduate with a Master in Engineering degree. It is not a 'post-graduate' master degree but an undergraduate one. As you put in your resume, some employers are not aware of this and may 'treat' you as a master degree holder. Seldomly, some employer may inquire about whether it is a post-graduate or what, so just clarify to them honestly hahaha.. Of course it is recommended to do 4 instead of 3 in a UK uni, as our BEM only recognize 4 years eng degree. |

QUOTE(CallMeBin @ Feb 18 2014, 09:09 PM) You can check this website firsthttp://www.eng.usm.my/v3/ If you not able to get USM during your application, your application will move to UPU. So, if you skip USM, then you will move to UPU directly. |

QUOTE(quovadis123 @ Feb 18 2014, 09:20 PM) Yup. Because USM is APEX status need different application. PIN for USM can be bought in BSN too ? My advice is better you choose USM application and prepare UPU too just in case. Alright. If I got chosen to USM, do I still have the chance to choose UPU ? (in case I reject the offer) |

Hi there. I'm new to this forum.
Okay , i know this is a stupid question but Im actually wondering whats the difference between a bachelor degree in mechanical eng from a private uni , for instance UTAR and the one from our public university ? Will the one from public uni have the edge compared to that of private uni? Before u guys start shooting at me , i just want to inform that i have tried my very best googling this topic. Thanks a lot for taking time to answer my question This post has been edited by Bean17: Feb 19 2014, 05:27 PM |

Thanks a lot for taking time to answer my question http://www.bem.org.my/v3/listofaccreditedprogrammes.html Check the link above. If the engineering course is not accredited mean it's worth nothing. Public university academic fee is very cheap compared to private. RM1.2k for every sem included hostel in USM engineering because most of the academic fee supported by government. For career wise, I think almost the same. Just certain company prefer certain university. That's all. |

Yeah , i know bout the BEM from reading this thread okay , just take an example , for utar http://www.eac.org.my/web/document/list%20...12.2012)%20.pdf there is sth that confuse me about the With Effect From 2009 (Graduate Year) it is accredited by BEM for the latest gradute year which is 2013 - 2014. so i wonder how can we know that our graduate year will also be accredited by the BEM ? hmm, do u mind elaborate more about the 'certain company prefer certain university' statement ? Thank you very much and hope that u don mind i ask so many questions at one time This post has been edited by Bean17: Feb 20 2014, 12:49 AM |

BEM will come your university and accredited your course. If fail, then gg. As simple as that. Just before this, they come early.. Now change to come late to accredited the course. Before 2009 eg. 2006-2008, accreditation based on intakes years (see the pdf again). Meaning that if university get accreditation on 2007, your intake year also 2007.. Mean you will graduate safely without worry anything. <<hmm, do u mind elaborate more about the 'certain company prefer certain university' statement ? >> For example Intel do like to recruit UTM students because their study syllabus is preferable by Intel. Some engineering like Mineral & Resources from USM have very high demand from those mining company etc because other universities unable to provide such graduates. |
