Hi there. I'm new to this forum.
Okay , i know this is a stupid question but Im actually wondering whats the difference between a bachelor degree in mechanical eng from a private uni , for instance UTAR and the one from our public university ?

Will the one from public uni have the edge compared to that of private uni?

Before u guys start shooting at me , i just want to inform that i have tried my very best googling this topic.

Thanks a lot for taking time to answer my question icon_question.gif

First, you need see those universities of private or public is accredited by BEM.
http://www.bem.org.my/v3/listofaccreditedprogrammes.html
Check the link above. If the engineering course is not accredited mean it's worth nothing.

Public university academic fee is very cheap compared to private. RM1.2k for every sem included hostel in USM engineering because most of the academic fee supported by government.

For career wise, I think almost the same. Just certain company prefer certain university. That's all.

Hey , thanks. what a prompt reply!

Yeah , i know bout the BEM from reading this thread icon_idea.gif
okay , just take an example , for utar
http://www.eac.org.my/web/document/list%20...12.2012)%20.pdf
there is sth that confuse me about the With Effect From 2009 (Graduate Year)
it is accredited by BEM for the latest gradute year which is 2013 - 2014.
so i wonder how can we know that our graduate year will also be accredited by the BEM ?

hmm, do u mind elaborate more about the 'certain company prefer certain university' statement ?

Thank you very much and hope that u don mind i ask so many questions at one time rclxms.gif

Hi,

<<there is sth that confuse me about the With Effect From 2009 (Graduate Year)

W.E.F 2009 - mean starting from 2009 accreditation on engineering course based on graduate year.
BEM will come your university and accredited your course. If fail, then gg. As simple as that.
Just before this, they come early.. Now change to come late to accredited the course.

Before 2009 eg. 2006-2008, accreditation based on intakes years (see the pdf again). Meaning that if university get accreditation on 2007, your intake year also 2007.. Mean you will graduate safely without worry anything.

<<hmm, do u mind elaborate more about the 'certain company prefer certain university' statement ? >>
For example Intel do like to recruit UTM students because their study syllabus is preferable by Intel.
Some engineering like Mineral & Resources from USM have very high demand from those mining company etc because other universities unable to provide such graduates.

I tot i misunderstood that wef meaning previously...
For what reason they would have this kind of system in place T.T

isnt it the bem accreditation initial purpose is to make sure no students will enroll into the not recognized courses? So now with that being said , is it no private unis will not hv to 'worry' and all will be a bit 'risky' now?

I really gg now , dono how to choose.

So i suppose ure a public uni graduate , am i rite?
would u mind to tel me what field r u in?

Last but not least , thank you again =]

EAC accreditation is to ensure that graduates of the accredited engineering programmes satisfy the minimum academic requirements for registration as a graduate engineer with the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM) and for admission to graduate membership of IEM.

Why EAC Accreditation is important?
 Accreditation helps students and their parents to choose quality college programmes.
 Accreditation enables employers to recruit graduates they know are well-prepared.
 Accreditation gives colleges and universities a structured mechanism to assess,
evaluate, and improve the quality of their programs.

I'm graduated from USM, engineering.

Their first aim < Accreditation helps students and their parents to choose quality college programmes > and the following FAQ sound a bit controversial for me. It's like if ur course fails to get accredited , thats it u , go dai.

FAQ No 16.
If a student enrolled in any accredited programme, but later on during the programme the
accreditation status is withdrawn, then what will be the status of the degree that a
student gained?

Accreditation with the BEM is voluntary. However, MQA requires all programmes in Malaysia
to be accredited. If it happens that the programme is not accredited, there is not much
recourse except the graduate may sue the University for not maintaining the standard to
such an extent that accreditation is withdrawn. That is why it is the best that you look for
universities with good track records.

You see those universities have good track records will be fine. Mostly, they know how to pass the accreditation.

haha , okay . Thanks for your info thumbup.gif

I'll think about everything again from now until i get my spm result ,
still looking for direction in the middle of the ocean shakehead.gif

btw , you dont like ur engineering job? i saw that u said u jumped from an eng to become an app developer .

Not all engineering graduates remained in engineering, some moved to banking, arts etc.

Hi , few questions here..

First and foremost , it is about that career prospect in the mech.eng field. Ihave checked the employability of mechanical engineer thru the newspaper and saw most of them require a minimum of three to four years experience in the related field . So whats there for the fresh graduates? Is it the internship programme? Can u enlighten me on this internship matter since i do not know anyone who had studied eng in a uni bfore in my 'real' life.
Also , for mech eng, can u recommend me afew of the unis which are reputable of their edu qualiities? Both public and private. Am i correct that its the usm or utm for the public unis?
Btw, have u ever heard of Heriot Watt uni malaysia campus? I contacted them after reading their ads in the star. According to their 'employee'(i used whatsapp) , they are yet to be accredited by the bem and its the rocedure of every new uni. She also said the current year one will only receive the provisional accreditation tilll their graduate year only will they receive the full recognition. Is it true and r they reputable for their quality of edu ?

Im really sorry for this long post and once again distrb u . I just want to make sure which one is the best route/move as im not from a well to do family. I have a very deep interest in engineering ,even a 'simple' steam engine will intrigue me alot of how it works.

<<So whats there for the fresh graduates?>>
Yup, there are job for freshie too, just apply those 1 year exp or fresh grad job

<<Is it the internship programme? >>
Internship is industrial training before you graduate from University, normally you will go for internship during end of 3rd year. Engineering need to study for 4 years.
You will apply a job and work around 3months, some university 6 months and exposed to engineering working environment.

<<for mech eng, can u recommend me afew of the unis which are reputable of their edu qualiities?>>
USM, UM - You can get in using A level / STPM / Matrix
https://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?act=Atta...post&id=3871210
To be safe, cgpa around >3.7 to 4.0 in STPM will get you there.

<< Am i correct that its the usm or utm for the public unis? >>
Yup

<<Btw, have u ever heard of Heriot Watt uni malaysia campus?>>
Never heard of, and if they have yet accredited by BEM, just forget about this choice.

A-level is quite hard to get into IPTAs , am i correct ... ? wink.gif
Actually i was planning to get a scholarship to study A-level and then apply for NUS / maybe NTU , but it all subjects to if i get my scholarship for a-level. Should have taken my tenth subject. 9As will only eligible for 50% scholarship -.-

Dont like STPM cos the pa. im sure things happened during my spm like memorizing , cramming all facts will be happened all over again in my STPM. so trying to avoid it. sweat.gif

Btw , u develop mostly iOS apps ? brows.gif

Hi guys ,

I just saw you guys mentioning the minimum STPM CGPA to enter some of the engineering courses , but how about the CCA part?

Since I wasn't really that active during Form 1 to 3 , so my koko grade wasn't that high for SPM. The most i can get is a B for STPM sweat.gif

Will my chances still be high to enter the competitive engineering course providing if I hit the CGPA for STPM but only with a koko grade of B? icon_question.gif

Hmm , after a thorough research , I've changed my mind and it's Chemical Engineering.

Thanks.
