Hi! Im currently studying A-Levels and already in my final semester.
I have interest in engineering but im in a dilemma in choosing between Mechanical or triple E .
Mechanical seems to be a more diverse path as im not sure what i would want to be in the future but for triple E ... i dont know .. just my mind cant stop swaying between these 2 options..
Any opinions on the pros and cons or anything personal opinions?

The 2 courses you mentioned are mainstream courses. I should say both also very popular courses because high demand after you graduate from Engineering degree.
My opinion is engineering is just a study where you apply the knowledge you learnt from scientific, economic, social etc in order to create, improve, design, maintain the processes, system and etc.

High demand in job doesn't mean that you need to study that too.
Choose what you want, what you like.

Mechanical engineering is a discipline of engineering that applies the principles of engineering, physics and materials science for analysis, design, manufacturing, and maintenance of mechanical systems.

Electrical engineering is a field of engineering that generally deals with the study and application of electricity, electronics, and electromagnetism.

Electronics engineering, or electronic engineering, is an engineering discipline where non-linear and active electrical components such as electron tubes, and semiconductor devices, especially transistors, diodes and integrated circuits, are utilized to design electronic circuits, devices and systems, typically also including passive electrical components and based on printed circuit boards.

Hi guys, sorry for this question which sounds a little bit stupid.

I wonder is it okay if I take my degree at local uni and pursue my master abroad later? Will I get 'stucked' inside Malaysia?

What you mean exactly by "stucked"?

You can get a engineering degree in M'sia, then you can further study your phD or master in the oversea like japan or europe etc. Our local degree is recognized worldwide.

But with exception those course degree not accredited by Board of Engineering (BEM).
Check the course/university whether the course you wanted to enter is accredited by BEM or not.
http://www.bem.org.my/v3/listofaccreditedprogrammes.html

If you grad with a Engineering cert with no accreditation from BEM. You will not able to secure your path to professional engineer in the future (Ir.).
You can think it like you taking a "haram" course. sweat.gif

I'm not from petroleum, so can't get you specific input you want.
Please see this link for sample syllabus,
http://umat.edu.gh/petroleum-engineering.html?start=3
There is briefly describe what you will study in the future.

For buying reference book or any book, I recommend Book Depository Online.
It's UK based online store, provide free shipping worldwide, and the price is lower than what you can get in M'sia.

For engineering, the most important you need to improve is the physics in academic during foundation/pre-U equivalent.
If your physics is so-so, you will be very hard to catch up and worst case hard to survive in EEE(Electrical & Electronics Engineering) , EE(Electrical Engineering or Electronics Engineering).

Most of the foundation are fine in private college since most of the famous private college you already heard about.
There are still normal way to get to the Engineering, such as STPM and A-level. These latter path is more cost-saving but you will have to get a good result to enter local University.

For famous University for Engineering in Malaysia are Universiti Sains Malaysia (You can either choose Electrical or Electronics there), UTM for top tiers.

Please be reminded, Engineering of Physics stream is same level as Medicine for biology stream and Accounting.
The difficulty of the course is high, so must be prepared a lot.

How broad is communication engineering job scope in Malaysia? Theory wise it should be a sizable scope but you can never be too sure about it these days. And is it considered as core considering how broad the course itself covered technical-wise?

(Color vision deficiency) Color blindness not an issue to become petroleum engineer. smile.gif Even visual impaired can become engineer.
There is no discrimination on color vision deficiency, but you have to know your own limit.
But depends on the company whether if they want to hire or not, if the job need perfect eyesight, then you have no chance on that certain job. You may try in another company.

Do you have this issue?

“If you are faced with a mountain, you have several options.
You can climb it and cross to the other side.
You can go around it.
You can dig under it.
You can fly over it.
You can blow it up.
You can ignore it and pretend it’s not there.
You can turn around and go back the way you came.
Or you can stay on the mountain and make it your home.”

Why give up when you interested in it?
