Hi, I just install the astro B.yond. But I got an problem now. I would like the non HD channel to remain in 4:3 aspect ratio and the HD is 720p. I saw the guy set the normal channel to stretch and HD to 1080p. However, now I wasn't able to find this option on my remote. Anyone can tell me how to do it?
*
You need to set it at B.yond box to "Pillar". At this moment, no shortcut key for this function on remote controller.

Press the "Home" button on remote. Then, go to "Settings" and then "Installation settings". Key in 0000 (zero, zero, zero, zero) as the code and press OK. Next, select "HD Settings" and select your SD framing to pillarbox. Press OK until exit back to main screen and you should be good to go.

Note: I'm doing this from memory because I'm at work, so I may have gotten the names wrong...

Yup, got it. Thanks alot.

By the way, I'm using the Samsung 40B530, can I just the B.yond remote to control the TV? Anyone know is this TV support by the remote?

Should be supported.
Press “OK” and “TV” till the light on the remote blinks twice.
Enter Samsung code (refer to byond manual)
or
Use option 2 - using 991 (refer to manual)

After you sync the remote, you need to Press “OK” and “vol +” until the remote blinks twice, then you can control your tv volume.

thanks.. that part of the manual is quite confusing for me.. manage to control volume comfortably using byond remote now.

Just to share my experience after reading v1 v2 & now v3 thread on byond.

Applied online on 3rd Feb just before 5pm. Next day on 4th Feb received call from installer around 4pm saying that they are on the way to install. By 6pm, I have Byond on my TV !! really impresed/lucky with the fast service.

Signal strength is 210 ( around 80%). Told him that some have up to 225/230 (from members of this thread). I think he is lazy to go up and said that they already used satelitte tuner and that is the best config. Accepted his reason. As I also run a parallel split to my SD TV upstairs, he said that I have to use RF modulator(if not wrong), i.e using RG cable (yellow, red & white) into the unit and out using RG6 cable. He supplied to me at RM180. RG6 cable existing concealed. worked well.

As for my main area, I use the HDMI into my AV amp and component cable (blue, green, red) into my TV. Video stream into my AV amp(via HDMI) is 1080i while into my TV indicates 576i. Even though lower lower resolution using component cable, the HD channels was brilliant in PQ. Audio stream is DD5.1 using my amp but for the TV have to use stereo only as it can't decode.

Not satisfied with my set up, I went to jalan pasar to get HDMI splitter. I got a passive unit with one in and 2 out for RM80. Look at picture attached. Plug in the first HDMI out to TV got 1080i with good sound. Plugged in the second HDMI cable for my amp, BANG !!! pictures blurred / flickered with spots and no sound !!! THE PASIVE SPLITTER DOESNT WORK !! .. please dont use this pasive type.

Next day went to the shop in Jalan Pasar and exchange for the powered splitter. 1in2 out cost me RM310. 1in 4 out cost from RM450 onward. Hooked it up and my TV now video sream is 1080i and my AV amp is also 1080i with DD5.1. I'm happy with this set up.

my wishes;
1. Astro fix the audio bug as DD5.1 only works on HD channel but not others
2. red / white audio sound louder than HDMI audio
3. more HD channels. in Asia region we have Cartoon Network HD, Nat Geo HD, Travel channel HD. Hope Astro would include these or others soon.

Have a good New Year and Safe Holidays !!

For this astro byond, during bad weather can watch or not?
because astro cannot watch during bad weather so if they hvnt overcome this matter, this astro byond also useless..i rather prefer them to overcome the problem(cannot watch during bad weather) than come out with all the fancy ideas since the problems hvnt been solved for yrs..

With the new dish, the satellite signal strength increased. Should help for the rainy days.

Questions guy...can i maintain 1 SD astro and subscribe to a second decoder (B.yond)?
*
Yes..bit anyhow astro will 1st come to u and install normal SD decoder
Only when ur 2nd decoder install then they will come and replace the new decoder with Byond
A bit leceh..
U must remember, u will only get HD channels if u have either the learning, movie or sports package
So if u wanna order 2nd decoder Byond, u will have to subscribe to the package that have HD channles
But
i suggest u do like this..
Call astro and order Byond
This will mean astro changing ur current SD decoder to a Byond set
After Byond successfully install, call astro 4 2nd deoder
Then order ur 2nd decoder which will be SD..
PM me if u have any more questions about this..
I had the same problems but now everything ok thumbup.gif

Saw 'Valentine' on HBO HD just now...why is the aspect ratio is not on 16:9...coz pic look stretched as if it's transmitted in 4:3? all the doom-to-die chicks in it look kinda fugly and stretched tongue.gif

And i thought most things under the new HD channel would be in 16:9 already?

called astro feb 9. got sms from astro, installer assigned on feb 10. called the installer, feb 11 installed. thats what i called quick and painless.

signal strength is low...around 160. my contractor screwed up during renovation and landed downstairs while the astro box was upstairs. fortunately i pulled a coaxial as well. so using that cable hence low signal.

additionally used the av-rf converter to connect down to my SD (i had a another spare coaxial pulled during reno) downstairs. works like a charm. then i had a spare programmable remote (sony receiver)...programmed it with the byond remote....works like a charm.

astro....more HD channels pls!
