hi all,

my astro byond was installed this morning

AWESOME is the word to describe this service

although we are in V3 of this topic, i hope TS can make adjustment to the title as currently our AB (astro byond) software version is 1.0 and TS title of Astro B.yond 3.0 will create some misunderstanding to forumers. pls adment it to Astro B.yond V3 Thread should better reflect the whole meaning

thx

Hi Coriandery,

Looks like the box is giving you the same problems as mine which I got it replaced.

You need to call Astro customer service & also email at their site to complain.

Wish you luck.

frankly, i am not a fan of hardcore but unrated and category 3 should be okay, like our neighbour down south.

new smart cards( Byond set ) are sim(smart card) locked doh.gif
and infuture the current "old" sets too will be sim locked doh.gif
so we cannot move our smart card as we wish , like 0ne card to view at many different locations

QUOTE(AstInst @ Feb 9 2010, 12:19 PM)
The technical term for this is "Card Pairing" and is used by most broadcasters worldwide, Astro are one of the few broadcasters that allow swapping of cards and I think that this was mostly due to limitations of the old (and hacked) Nagra encryption.

Card Pairing is introduced for many reasons, first tracking, security and profit, it helps prevent "gold cards" becoming available.

The second reason, and most important to us, is that pairing is required for set top boxes that record on to hard drive. Astro intend to introduce recording later this year and, as I see it (I do not work for Astro), the pairing is the first step. Imagine you want to record a program and you remove the card and put it in your bedroom set top box, it would then be really annoying if the recording failed!

All modern "recording" boxes have their ability to record controlled by the card (usually at a monthly charge), this means you need to keep the card in the box and to not let the card "go to Penang on holiday" with you!

Analogue stereo (using the red and white RCA connectors) is only stereo. If you want 5.1 you must use either the digital audio RCA or pass the HDMI through a 5.1 amplifier. Some surround sound systems can take a stereo signal and create a fake surround sound effect, but it is no way as good!
*
abt the Digital RCA tat is available in the Byond decorder, wat kind of cable should i look for and any pic of the cable?
is it only for 5.1 system?

thx

btw, my signal on this Byond set is 206 and quality is 100%..... wat are you guys readings?

It's a standard RCA cable. Basically, you need to plug this into a kit that can decode 5.1DD that has the necessary speakers setup. Just buy any standard long enough RCA cable with 2 or 3 heads and use one of the connectors.

wat if i use an adaptor jack to connect to my altec lansing pc speaker?

yes why not

my setup includes both HDMI and composite RCA as RCA channels gives better audio

btw, is the soccer match between Arsenal vs Liverpool in HD??

I mean the composite video..not the audio
I plan to get the RF modulator to convert the composite video + L/R audio into the RF coaxial (that connected to my TV upstairs) so that I can view astro up there.
If the b.yond connected through HDMI to the AVR in living room, can I watch it upstairs via the b.yond's composite out (The yellow RCA) at the same time?
*
tat i am not sure as both my HDMI and composite are connected to my LCD at the same time. Most of the time i am using HDMI input to view Astro but the sound is "flat" whereas on composite its more lively. i intend to purchase a 5.1 system to connect via the DIGITAL RCA output of the Byond

QUOTE(luxasia @ Feb 11 2010, 04:51 PM)
Just to share my experience after reading v1 v2 & now v3 thread on byond.

Applied online on 3rd Feb just before 5pm. Next day on 4th Feb received call from installer around 4pm saying that they are on the way to install. By 6pm, I have Byond on my TV !! really impresed/lucky with the fast service.

Signal strength is 210 ( around 80%). Told him that some have up to 225/230 (from members of this thread). I think he is lazy to go up and said that they already used satelitte tuner and that is the best config. Accepted his reason. As I also run a parallel split to my SD TV upstairs, he said that I have to use RF modulator(if not wrong), i.e using RG cable (yellow, red & white) into the unit and out using RG6 cable. He supplied to me at RM180. RG6 cable existing concealed. worked well.

As for my main area, I use the HDMI into my AV amp and component cable (blue, green, red) into my TV. Video stream into my AV amp(via HDMI) is 1080i while into my TV indicates 576i. Even though lower lower resolution using component cable, the HD channels was brilliant in PQ. Audio stream is DD5.1 using my amp but for the TV have to use stereo only as it can't decode.

Not satisfied with my set up, I went to jalan pasar to get HDMI splitter. I got a passive unit with one in and 2 out for RM80. Look at picture attached. Plug in the first HDMI out to TV got 1080i with good sound. Plugged in the second HDMI cable for my amp, BANG !!! pictures blurred / flickered with spots and no sound !!! THE PASIVE SPLITTER DOESNT WORK !! .. please dont use this pasive type.

Next day went to the shop in Jalan Pasar and exchange for the powered splitter. 1in2 out cost me RM310. 1in 4 out cost from RM450 onward. Hooked it up and my TV now video sream is 1080i and my AV amp is also 1080i with DD5.1. I'm happy with this set up.

my wishes;
1. Astro fix the audio bug as DD5.1 only works on HD channel but not others
2. red / white audio sound louder than HDMI audio
3. more HD channels. in Asia region we have Cartoon Network HD, Nat Geo HD, Travel channel HD. Hope Astro would include these or others soon.

Have a good New Year and Safe Holidays !!

THANKS for the posting. GOOD info for us.

called astro feb 9. got sms from astro, installer assigned on feb 10. called the installer, feb 11 installed. thats what i called quick and painless.

signal strength is low...around 160. my contractor screwed up during renovation and landed downstairs while the astro box was upstairs. fortunately i pulled a coaxial as well. so using that cable hence low signal.

additionally used the av-rf converter to connect down to my SD (i had a another spare coaxial pulled during reno) downstairs. works like a charm. then i had a spare programmable remote (sony receiver)...programmed it with the byond remote....works like a charm.

astro....more HD channels pls!

apparently you cannot split HD... I guess with the bandwidth it's not advisable although I have no equipment to test this.

So, the split is done at the dish - my new lnb has 2 outputs, one output for HD (direct to HD decoder) and the other output for SD, which you can then split at any point after that

if you have/want to use more than one decoder you have to tell Astro and they instruct the tech to bring the appropriate lnb (with up to 4 outputs, which puts a theoretical maximum of 4 HD decoders per dish)
