Agreed. Although on my Sharp TV, if you press the power button twice fast enough, the TV will ignore the "1" signal and switch on it's back on the last input. My TV is set to expect two number button presses before switching, or wait a few seconds after only one number is pressed before switching.

did you program the remote?

Volume control doesn't work for HDMI connection, u need to sync with your tv volume control. Please refer page 1, 1st post.

Volume control for byond decoder (by default) is for analog audio out (RCA red/white connector) only. If u using digital connection (HDMI/Digital Coax), volume won't change even when u adjust it.
So, u need to control using TV volume. If u want to control your tv volume by using byond remote, u need to sync byond remote with your tv (please refer byond manual)

hi guys, i read from the thread that favourite feature can be used already, but i can only ADD by pressing the RED button, when i press the FAV button nothing come out, is it working? or i do not know how to use it. thanks.

After you sync the remote, you need to Press “OK” and “vol +” until the remote blinks twice, then you can control your tv volume.

Just to share my experience after reading v1 v2 & now v3 thread on byond.

Applied online on 3rd Feb just before 5pm. Next day on 4th Feb received call from installer around 4pm saying that they are on the way to install. By 6pm, I have Byond on my TV !! really impresed/lucky with the fast service.

Signal strength is 210 ( around 80%). Told him that some have up to 225/230 (from members of this thread). I think he is lazy to go up and said that they already used satelitte tuner and that is the best config. Accepted his reason. As I also run a parallel split to my SD TV upstairs, he said that I have to use RF modulator(if not wrong), i.e using RG cable (yellow, red & white) into the unit and out using RG6 cable. He supplied to me at RM180. RG6 cable existing concealed. worked well.

As for my main area, I use the HDMI into my AV amp and component cable (blue, green,red) into my TV. Video stream into my AV amp(via HDMI) is 1080i while into my TV indicates 576i. Even though lower lower resolution using component cable, the HD channels was brilliant in PQ. Audio stream is DD5.1 using my amp but for the TV have to use stereo only as it can't decode.

Not satisfied with my set up, I went to jalan pasar to get HDMI splitter. I got a passive unit with one in and 2 out for RM80. Look at picture attached. Plug in the first HDMI out to TV got 1080i with good sound. Plugged in the second HDMI cable for my amp, BANG !!! pictures blurred / flickered with spots and no sound !!! THE PASIVE SPLITTER DOESNT WORK !! .. please dont use this pasive type.

Next day went to the shop in Jalan Pasar and exchange for the powered splitter. 1in2 out cost me RM310. 1in 4 out cost from RM450 onward. Hooked it up and my TV now video sream is 1080i and my AV amp is also 1080i with DD5.1. I'm happy with this set up.

my wishes;
1. Astro fix the audio bug as DD5.1 only works on HD channel but not others
2. red / white audio sound louder than HDMI audio
3. more HD channels. in Asia region we have Cartoon Network HD, Nat Geo HD, Travel channel HD. Hope Astro would include these or others soon.

To answer this correctly you need some industry perspective. Astro did not choose Ku Band, it was the license awarded to Astro by the Malaysian Government that dictated the use of Ku Band. The alternative is Ka band which has significantly worse rainfade. C-Band, although it has better rain fade resistance was not proposed by the government as it is easy to use C-Band to receive content from outside Malaysia. Ku Band was not Astro's choice!

Geographical regions are put in to rainfall categories by the International Telecommunications Union, Malaysia is in Category H, the highest.

The impact of rainfall intensity and Ku Band is clearly understood and has many formula attached, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rain_fade.

If you google ITU-R and Rainfall you will see many papers published on this and Malaysia is almost always used as a key example. Click here to do the search, there are some good MSc papers written on this.

The new B.yond dish and LNB certainly improve on the old dish from four months ago but can never get rid of it.

From my measurements Astro seem to be using a far superior LNB compared to those in Europe. In Europe a basic LNB costs as little as 30RM but wouldn't last a day here! The Astro LNB appears to be a low noise high gain version which can cost up to 50USD.

It is all too easy to "blame them" without understanding the science or industry. By all means keep on highlighting rainfade, if it wasn't for complaints I am sure Astro would give us a cheaper dish and LNB but don't blame them!

Sorry, with my family in Ipoh!

Try this, power off TV and B.yond at the wall switch and leave for 10 minutes.

Pull Astro smart card out and push back in firmly

Power on TV and set to the correct input for B.yond (HDMI)

Power on B.yond box

If you get a picture let the box sit on the channel for 10 minutes to get all the SI, PSI and CA information.

Astro byond decoder can easily getting hot probably because of it's design...
as you see, it was so compact..., and the black shiny colour will make it more hot on long-time operation...
U can try to reduce it's hotness by using Notebook cooler... Just connect it to the USB port that is available in front or at the back of the decoder..,  and place your notebook cooler below your decoder...
I do like that for my Byond...

use powered HDMI splitter for HD or rf modulator for SD

i've question for byond..the normal channel will be the same or poorer..i mean the picture quality and the sound..
