I am still in 'suspend/sleep' mode, whether want to 'root' or not my N1 smile.gif..

I already set up my own crosscompile environment in my GNU/Linux laptop and successfully compiled the N1 kernel with my own preferences smile.gif

If you want paid apps, you have to unlock your bootladder and roots your nexus, you guys can check xda-developer or modaco websites, inside there have tutorial how roots, if you roots you will void your warranty. You guys have to follow guide to roots carefully or you will brick your nexus like our forumer here andrewtst.

Hi,

I am new in Android. Just got my Nexus One recently and interested to root it. Is it possible that I just root it without installing custom ROM? I read that some custom ROM still have issues so I want to use back the stock OS but want a flexibility to install paid apps from market place. Anyone care to share me or point me the steps just to root the phone without installing custom ROM?

Thanks in advance.

Haha..when you have root you have endless possiilities..There no one thing that root can't do which unroot phone can..You can do a nandroid backup of the original ROM you have, use a CMR, go back to the custom ROM, or install the original ROM anytime (downloads can be provided). But if you have root, seriously, custom ROM will wow you even more smile.gif But like I said, when you have root, you have endless possibilities..Only be patient when you do your stuff smile.gif

sweat.gif i'm getting confused also now

gurus please help on this  laugh.gif

to be honest, my contacts have mulitple google contact entries in one contact. its annoying when you select Edit Contact and see so many list of repetitive Google Contacts for one person.

Thanks Andrew smile.gif

wow thats one interesting move from google. i personally dont use taskiller after i read that it messes up your services and apps, (like alarm clock not working - hello late-for-work days  laugh.gif ) but if one really needs to use it, i guess can add the apps/services to the ignore list.

Added on March 4, 2010, 10:58 am
i guess that can be done... but i'm not 100% sure. guys any idea?

you might want to check out the SlideMe since all you want is Paid Apps.

http://slideme.org/  (its a marketplace similar to Android Market too, has lots of paid apps i think)

There is actually one more method of memory management which lets the Android kill apps that hogs background memory without using the TasKiller. I did it once and it was really awesome. Problem is, I change my ROM all the time so it has to be re-done all the time. I think someone actually posted a link of it somewhere in this thread. But its going to be a long search if you guys want to find out coz it's a link to another forum smile.gif Or, you can search on xda / modaco..Dang, I really need to recompile all of these tips etc.

bro,can you pls tell me how 2 unlock and root my android.im boring with this phone d

serious,i really want to learn all these things,to upgrade,to root,to blablabla, but i dont hv any improvements at all,you know what,i dont even know how 2 transfer instaled files in my comp to my pdas.darn me .
*
Okay, first of all, look through the Hero tutorial which is a sticky post of my guide..There will be SDK installation..You need that first to run anything related to rooting and flashing process..After that, just follow the steps I've included on this thread for Nexus One smile.gif

Updates to the community project, I'm thinking, instead we have our own wiki for Malaysian Androiders..We can have all APN lists, rooting guides, basic rooting guides, specific model rooting addition steps, etc etc..But I need a very huge support for this if I want to go with it..Because newer phones will be coming out soon and we will need to play with them..And of maybe we will have to make it ads and donations driven to maintain it (buying new phones etc for testing)..
We can even include reviews..Its still not too late as there are still not that many Android phones yet in the market..If we want to do, we have to do it really fast..

I have read on Shahz notes at first post. If I understand correctly, here's the steps I need to perform to root my n1 without installing the custom ROM.

First, flash the phone with the superboot image file. Get it from here (if the link breaks, let me know):
http://android.modaco.com/content/google-n...-the-nexus-one/
You must also determine which version of superboot you need to execute. The instructions are crystal clear in that thread. At this point, you already have root. The next steps are optional.

Next, flash the Amon-Ra recovery image:
http://android.modaco.com/content/google-n...recovery-image/

So, flash the Amon-Ra recovery image will include Nand-Backup of original ROM.

Please correct me if I am wrong. I am preparing myself now. Hopefully can root it after 1 or 2 months usage without hardware issue.

Thanks.
