Select Nexus One users complaining of touchscreen calibration, 3G connectivity issues

As totally awesome and exciting as the Nexus One might be, with any new device there are bound to be some growing pains -- f'rinstance, you might have heard about issues with the phone's 3G connectivity. Well, Google has too (hell, our buddy Erick Tseng even addressed it on The Engadget Show yesterday) and while the cause is less than clear, the company assures us it's working feverishly to get to the bottom of it. Unfortunately, that isn't the only problem newly minted Nexus One owners are noticing. According to a lively discussion on Google's Android forum, some folks are experiencing extreme touchscreen calibration issues after cold booting the phone -- problems that resolve themselves (temporarily) after putting the thing to sleep and then turning it back on. That said, the good folks at Google assure us they're on the case. If it turns out that it's a hardware problem, it'll be covered under your warranty. Software? They'll issue a patch for it. If your phone's having problems and you feel like joining the conversation, hit that source link.

shahz, do you think N1 will get the multitouch soon? (either hack or official). I'm kinda torn here, i heard the EU version MIGHT have multitouch but it's gonna be 1 month before they release it here in eu. And i can't wait that long  sweat.gif

Yeah..There is no sticky seal that separates the box with the contents..Just take out the phone and battery, slot them in and put in the pocket..Easiest way to bring it in..To those who want to confirm whether anyone has touched the phone or not, don't worry..The fingerprints will stick on the phone rather easily smile.gif
Didn't have any problems for me..Make sure you made your device discoverable..I've used the bluetooth several times already since I got it..Its slower than WiFi, but easier to activate and use..So far no problems at all smile.gif
Accuracy of the keyboard is really good! There is no calibration, but somehow either my Nexus One is learning my thumbs, or either I am the one who's getting used to it..Its' getting a lot more accurate as I use it day by day smile.gif

Yeah!! me also no problem went make call trough my SE bluetooth stereo

Fingerprint easy to stick? I've never used a virtual keyboard before that's why kinda afraid it's gonna be hard.

Just bought N1 off ebay and now it's gonna be a waiting game  biggrin.gif Hopefully wont be long before i can get my hands on the phone

Hi,

I'm part of N1 club too! smile.gif

Anyway, want to find out - I've been trying to disable my 3G connection to no avail. Even downloaded APNdroid but still receiving e-mails.

Anyone have a solution? I currently don't have a data plan so the bill might kill me. :S
*
the best way reset APN and start using WIFI

Hey guys,

I'm a new Nexus One owner and it's great to join the club! smile.gif

Anyway, I usually just lurk but I had something to share so...

For those who get constant disconnects from the GSM network (I don't have 3G yet), here's something to try:

1.  Home Screen -> Settings -> Wireless & Netowrk Settings > Mobile networks > Network operators -> Select Automatically
2.  Home Screen -> Phone -> Dial *#*#4636#*#* -> Phone Information -> Switch from 'WCDMA preferred' to 'GSM only'

It's basically the 'fix' for 3G but I'm only on GSM so this fixed my GSM problem. Hope it helps someone. smile.gif

Edit: I had this problem with the OTA update. No idea about before that cause I updated right after I got my phone.
*
I already tried it, if choose GSM only N1 screen only show G=GPRS but if I select back WCDMA preferred screen how 3G

As for me, I use APNdroid n the tips above to be sure.

For prepaid user below method is more effective

Home Screen -> Phone -> Dial *#*#4636#*#* -> Phone Information -> More -> disable data connection

Thank bro. Just that I would like to know if there any app or widget that enable and disable data connection. That all.

And also I am sorry if my question is irritating somebody. But I didn't mean it, but I really dunno anything about nexus and android system, that why I ask and learn from here, not being blamed. Certain thing still new to me, even I knew what rooting mean, but still there things that I don't understand about rooting.

I took time to read every page, just that I may not understand some of the thing.

I already tried APNdriod but I'm not reccommend it bcoz data still running then u know la prepaid also jalan......

Yap, I think the 3G sign is still there, only thing is the phone will not able to access the 3G since the APNDroid already auto change your APN name.

You can try to turn off the 3G using APNDroid, then try access internet and you shouldn't able to access it.
*
Yup can't access internet but data still running...u can chk data usage from 3G watchdog

I tried MagicMarker for you and it works just as it should. Holding down at any point and lifting, you get a point where you hold down. MagicMarker is not a multitouch app however, so if you're expecting it to plot separate points than that is exactly where your problem is -- it doesn't do that.

I also downloaded "Multitouch Visualizer" by Luke Hutchison from the market, and it works as expected.

Some people tend to wrap their fingers around the sides of the phone when holding it, resulting in their fingers touching he sides of the screen and registering as a touch. That's enough to confuse the phone. The way I hold it rarely gives me any issues.

Phua, you have posted more than once on this issue ... just wondering, are you experiencing an actual problem with your phone or just "worried" ? Have you installed the OTA update, and does your pinch-and-zoom work as it should in maps, gallery and the browser?
*
Ya! I also tried multitouch visualizer without any problem found

I tried it again for you,  still OK. Never get the green circle somewhere else in multitouch Visualizer.

How are your pinch and zoom in maps, browser and gallery behaving? Any problem?
*
yeah mine also ok.............

adrive, it was already answered above. You must set as "MOBILE" type for the phone numbers that can send/receive messages. Usually, home phones can't accept SMSes. So, all numbers that are set as "home" or "office" etc in the contacts will not show up as SMS contacts. You can still send them SMS though by going to the contacts and select the contact you want to send SMS.

For those of you who want to try GMaps 4.0 on your Nexus One, this is special for you. Send me a PM with your e-mail address and I will send you the APK installer. If you have Root, please don't waste my time. This is only for those who don't have Root!
