HAHA other than ur important documents and stuff like drivers license (cos u can use ur malaysian license to drive here) and of course cash, anything else is practically non-essential and can be bought here. so no worries. tip - try not to convert everything to RM and u'll be fine. smile.gif

1.Well, you cant bring much with the limit you have.
2. The Village may provide, but at a *nice priced*
3. Im sure there is small China store around for you to get these goods.

prefer MAS for two reasons;

1. prefer local hospitality

2. accrue enrich points (i managed to upgrade to business class using the points, when i flew from tullamarine to KLIA)

QUOTE(k-ivy @ Feb 3 2010, 02:47 PM)
hello everyone, reporting in ^^
gonna credit transfer into University of Adelaide of year 2 in Bachelor of Commerce this february.
Any advice?

I'll be living at The Village.
My father will be going with me.
So any motel/ motel to recommend?
As long as it is clean and near to The Village...

Basically how much money do u guys spend per month, excluding accommodation? (as in Adelaide)
For the first month, we definitely need extra money for startup and buying books, could anyone give me an estimation on how much should i bring for the 1st month?

Thanks in advance...

Hello k-ivy.
I stayed in 2 places before.
Quest Mansion - Near by Rundle Mall and Uni Adelaide, really clean but quite noisy due to proximity with traffic lights, bus stop and on weekends drunk people shouting nonsense. Very clean, have kitchen.
BreakFree at Hindley - not bad, near by bus stop for free loop bus 99 around CBD, but do not walk alone at night especially weekend, crime prone area around the CBD cause it is the red light district. And very clean also and have kitchen.
Alternatively if you wanna really cheap cheap accommodation for your dad then stay in hostel. Just googled accommodation adelaide.
I can get by $250 per-week, including food, accommodation and utilities and entertainment, you might need more because The Village is kinda expensive to stay there.
Hotel near by The Village is Hilton Hotel.
Btw Chinatown and Central Market is close by the village, so you do not have to walk far to eat.
Just buy 2nd hand text books at the MyUni portals. Save money and some are really in good conditions.
Anyway you would enjoy The Village, a really classy place to stay and mingle with other international students, and a lot of Malaysian there especially Petronas's sponsored students.

Tax and anyhow? I'm facing weight problem and might result in sending textbooks over via mail. I'm afraid that it might be taxed or whatnot.

i honestly doubt that they will tax you for books.

furthermore, if they are used books, more a reason, not to worry.

Added on February 3, 2010, 11:37 pmhowever, be warned, that if you attempt to dispatch food into australia, you might encounter some hiccups.

a friend, once sent me a box of dried and packed food from malaysia and guess what?

the custom department took the liberty to open it up and scrutinised the contents.

they were subsequently cleared, with no item confiscated. they did, however included a couple of pamphlets, warning me what are items prohibited into the country.

they even repacked the box securely (and arranged the contents inside nicely)

to be safe, just translate your license. The embassy offer licence translation free of charge for students who studied in australia.
And if u are still "P",just stick the P stickers and drive.

You cannot drive with a Malaysian P license in Australia! Read the bloody front page before randomly asking questions that show you have not even done your homework and expect to be spoonfed all information.

well of course, it depends on your luck at times (not just australia, but postal services globally)

i purchase quite a number of electronics from abroad regularly and i have experienced my share of "disappointment"

Correct me if I'm wrong please!
